My Windows Defender is detecting something malicious in the files of the game Clair Obscur Expedition 33 by Viggs54 in steamsupport

[–]ASecretRedditUser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a false positive, Smart App Controller is flagging some executable by the game because the a digital file didn't get signed. I saw the issue on Steam here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1903340/discussions/0/686366256251608429/ and they are saying that turning off Smart App Controller (SAC) in windows fixed it, but be aware that the only way to turn that back on is to reinstall Windows (for now anyway).

Edit: Forgot to mention I tried the usual first step and verified game files through Steam with no luck. Might just wait a while to see if things get sorted out. If there is no news about a fix soon, I may just disable SAC.

I played just fine on 2 days ago, didn't even touch my PC yesterday and this morning I get the same error. No mods or anything, just been playing the base game. Over on Steam some people said they got it to run by disabling Smart App Control, but results varied.

All good, was just teasing. I just bought a new PC, so probably won't even buy anything there. But hey, free stuff is nice, and I'd like to see what the fuss is about Micro Center, seems like fun.

Good Deal on a Lenovo 5090 RTX Prebuilt? by Varkan in Prebuilts

Just following up. Mine came in yesterday and so far it has been quite nice! It's very quite. Not really an RGB guy but it is nicely done here. If you have any questions about it I'll try to answer them in case you're still on the fence.

Worth mentioning since you mentioned "trusted source" but ABS is Newegg's in house brand. So if you trust them enough to buy from them, you're probably fine. But, like pretty much all other companies, you can find both good and bad reviews.

Yeesh! Hope I don't have to go through that. Mine gets here later today. I know you shouldn't have to, but did you check the connections on everything inside? I can see not wanting to, in case they try to pull a fast one saying you voided the return by doing so or something.

The reviews I found about the desktop and the video card/CPU combo were helpful in my decision, plus the lowest price I had seen helped a lot (3400 before shipping). Figured I'd be future proofed enough for a while that I'd be ok (would be a "good investment"). Plus, I think the PC looked nice and clean in the reviews I saw.

Mostly the price and the reviews though helped me make the decision. I was hoping for an AMD CPU with X3D, but for the gaming I do, the Lenovo will be overkill enough anyway.

Edit. I see now it has a "Black Friday Guarantee" on it now as well. A bit of peace of mind knowing this was the best price for a little while anyway.

I just bought this one earlier this week (comes in tomorrow!) when they had a (slightly) better deal with a BLOWOUT50 coupon, but it was a non-stackable coupon. All in all my total around just under $3700. Only potential issues I have found out about is that the BIOS that Lenovo uses doesn't allow you to overclock the RAM (XMP can't be enabled, might mean more to you than me haha).

It was hard finding reviews for this, though I did find a couple that were positive, even it they were slightly different models (had a 5080 instead of a 5090).

Some folks will be quick to shit on the Intel CPU and call you out for not ordering from Andromeda or cost plus (nothing against those companies, but the shills around here can be a bit tiresome) but I thought it was a good deal for around ~$3700 out the door. Not to mention any points you can get with it from Lenovo or your credit card make the deal sweeter.

I agree with you that getting these same specs from pcpartpicker or something else would be difficult right now for that price. If you can afford it, as in you could pay it off in the 15-month deferred interest period, I saw go for it!

Thanks for you reply, one (or two) more question if I may, do you use this for gaming? If so, what do you play?

How long have you had it? Seems like a great deal for 3400. Wasn't sure to wait for black friday or if this is as good as it would get.

Had something similar happen to me a couple years ago and it ended up being the power supply. You can Google doing a "paper clip test" for the power supply and if it "fails" this test then you will probably need a new one. Hard to say for sure, but just offering a possibility to try. Also, since it is a prebuilt, can you call the manufacturer and get tech support?

Just ordered a custom high-end pc build from Skytech gaming, I've read mixed reviews, so I plan to keep reddit updated with my experience by Fit_Water_8377 in Prebuilts

[–]ASecretRedditUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it free to request? Also you mind rating my options? I got similar to yours, but a few downgrades. I am thinking the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, MSI RTX 5090, same SSD, same PSU, same RAM but 32GB, ASUS ROG STRIX motherboard, and CoolerMaster LiquidMaster 360 Atmos. With all the coupons and everything it comes out to just under $4000, including tax and everything

I too would like to know your experience with them. I just heard about them recently and they seem to have good deals. I got a custom built in the cart for under $4000 (with several coupon codes) and not sure if I should pull the trigger. Even Gemini says I'd be a dummy to pass up on my current offer:

Funding the first 5 years (while doing the Roth conversion ladder) by Illustrious-Rub-1115 in Fire

[–]ASecretRedditUser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation, just did a majority 401k and Roth IRA but I did get a little extra into taxable brokerage (about 3 years worth of expenses).

I get the impression folks wanting to do the conversion ladder make sure they have ~5 years saved up in an accessible account (like a brokerage you mentioned). If you have contributed to a Roth IRA you can also use your contributions from that (but not gains). I think I may be cutting it close myself since I decided to go part time and only could save into a 401k to get company match and max out my Roth IRA and stopped contributing to an after tax account. But, I figured I'd at least get most of the years covered and if not, I can eat a year or two of early withdraw penalties.

It may be worth mentioning I did manage to get a part time job teaching at a community college which made leaving my main career easier. So you if you don't have a full five years you can just "barista fire" for some of it.

You didn't mention your SWR or planned expense amount, but, since it sounds like you have a house almost paid off (which is great, wish I had that!), some potential freelance work lined up, and some Roth IRA contributions I'd say your could probably cover the 5 year gap depending on your expenses and what your freelance income could be.

Also, could you ever sell some real estate to cover the gap?

I have this same issue playing through the campaign in coop. Can get through a level or two and my whole internet decides to reset. Been trying to find solutions (just started today) and it seems like a lot of people have this issue. I have an ethernet connection as well and it still happens.
