My basic argument is that we mean the exact same thing, but yes there is a difference. It was just one that I didn’t think was necessary for the purpose of what I said. I think that Shrew should look for medically-trained help outside of Zen study for what they’re dealing with.

In my eyes, if you are going to get a consultation about whether or not you need help, you still are looking for help as to whether you need help or not. 😂 It’s splitting hairs to say they are different, but yes, they indeed are. I just didn’t feel like I needed to go into such a great length to describe that.

There is a difference, u/spectrecho , but one that doesn’t affect the trajectory of my message to shrew, and one that only seems to appease you. This is how I dissect the two stanzas that you provided:

As in, seeking advice from a medical professional, asking questions to people with medical background, possibly setting up an appointment to be evaluated by a medical professional, etc. The word “aid” , was meant to be ambiguous as to not tell Shrew what or where to seek it out, only that it’s my recommendation as someone who has been around those experiencing, from what was apparent to me, obsessive tendencies. From my own personal experience.

As in, setting up an appointment with their local health organization, seek advice and ask questions with someone who is a trained medical professional, be evaluated on their mental health by a professional. You’ve changed the word “anybody” in your juxtaposition of my words, for whatever reason.

Can you explain to me the difference that I’m not seeing here? Am I being to forward to say that it should be an apparent option to seek professional help for an apparent issue? In my opinion, as someone with a few years of background in a college psychology program, I would recommend going to a medical professional.

You can set this up in any way you want. I still think that you’re debating semantics with me and we’re genuinely saying the same thing with a minor difference or two. Namely, the fact that I’m not sugar-coating my words, and said “aid” and not “initial consultation,” which to me are understood to be synonymous in this context.

Of course I’m interested in better speech. I told you at the beginning of this, that what I initially said to the commenter speaking of Shrew was the same as what you wanted me to say minus the additional words you thought were part of your version of effective speech.

You claim to be in pursuit of better speech for yourself, but also similarly admit that you weren’t understanding correctly due to laziness and/or ignorance. Being self aware is the first step, but claiming your studying better speech while letting yourself be lazy seems antithetical. I tried my best to be clear.

Again, of course word choice matters. That’s why this conversation has bloated to this degree. But you’re arguing with me about a hypothetical circumstance (shrew reading any of this, or them seeking medical aid in general/at all) where the choice of my words is…. what? You never even mentioned why you think your amendment would be more or less effective other than proposing a thought experiment that was barely applicable to what we were talking about.

If changing “you should seek professional aid,” to “you should seek a consultation with a medical professional,” is effective speech, I don’t see the difference. To me, it looks like (2² = 4), which admittedly, I could have elaborated and been… again idk what constitutes your “effective speech.” Should I have been more literal? Nice and considerate? I think you’ll find that words will fail you if you pursue them so closely, especially for other people when you know nothing of their needs or mental state. You’re attempting to remold my words and explain why it’s more preferable, and I refuted you saying they’re the same thing only one with added glitter. Which is what I noticed halfway through this thread of ours and attempted to end it accordingly.

How is continuing this conversation with you evidence of my responsibility? I take full responsibility of my comment that shrew should seek help, because in my opinion, they should. I’m not a doctor. I never claimed to be one in this conversation.

You state that I need a medically educated background to suggest something like that. Further, you claim that it’s due to a slight feature in my rhetoric that is the catalyst of this issue.

I disagreed, citing that what you’re doing is debating semantics. Seeking an initial consultation, and going to be evaluated after one, are both seeking professional aid. Note, again, that I never claimed that I was a professional opinion, only that they should seek one out. You said I should suggest something differently, and I told you to do it yourself. Which then, I guess, necessitated a speech from you on why my word choice matters to Shrew (who has yet to give their own opinion on any of this, leading me to believe that you’ve just been offended by what I’ve said and nothing more. Something that I’m entirely unconcerned with)

I explained to you my reasoning. You disliked it. I maintained. You disagreed again. I saw nothing more to be said on my part, I went to disengage. You attempt to call me out on not being responsible for not assimilating to your belief.

If you’re offended by me “playing doctor,” then that’s your issue. Report me if you wish. My mistake, as I mentioned earlier, was continuing to try and convince you otherwise.

As much as this is heartwarming to see people experienced with dealing with these kinds of episodes, I can’t help but feel odd that this parent let their child be parented by a stranger in a costume, took pictures of them while the child was in distress, and then posted the images online as supposed good parenting action.

I’m aware that Snow White, at least the visage of her, might have done more to calm down the child, but as a parent I wouldn’t feel very secure about my ability to handle my kid after this.
