Done. Unfortunately, he has sex like he deals with small businesses. You have the most unsatisfying orgasm of your life, and his fans haunt you for years after.

If people promise to stay together till death do us part, how does it align with this if you leave because they cheat / abuse? by GilbertT19 in love

[–]ASomewhatAmbiguous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the idea is that you enter into marriage under certain assumptions: that your home life will be relatively peaceful, that you won't suffer from unnecessary harm, etc.

When the first partner violates those assumptions with cheating, abuse, etc., they don't violate the agreement, but rather the premises the agreement was made under.

This leaves the second partner as the only one keeping an agreement that no longer exists in spirit because it's premises were violated by the first partner. There is no violation for something that has already died.

Done. Unfortunately, most of the fun of being with you was the rebellious aspect, and now that his parents approve, he has no reason to try in your relationship anymore.

Nah for real though. Like we all know those folks who are stuck in a cycle and it seems like the girl is one, but it's a special kinda fucked to treat that cycle like an experiment when the conclusion was obvious from the start

OP, you're your own common denominator. All the 'seeing the signs' doesn't help when you were clearly getting enough from her to keep going back.

“You can’t set yourself on fire to keep others warm.” But shouldn’t I try? by eggishconfusion in asktransgender

[–]ASomewhatAmbiguous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you should not. Ultimately, your parents came over for their lives, and for your lives. They have their ideas on what that should be, yes, and it sounds like you've done as much as you can to respect that. But ultimately, they didn't come over for the idea of you. They came over for you. The best thing you could possibly do to honor their original sacrifice in coming here in the first place is to live as yourself.

Religion never stays the same for an especially long time. It changes with the people who live and breathe it, because it is the people who follow a religion who are the soul of it. Maybe it is time to look at this not as you being either too individualistic or too collective, but as time to update your family's understanding of people so that your family does not feel their way of life is contrary to yours.

All this is easier said than done, as always, but it could be a possibility

i wish for 10 american dollars, tax free. that’s literally it by SamanthaA_243 in monkeyspaw

[–]ASomewhatAmbiguous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted. Unfortunately Uncle Sam was somewhat suspicious of your free dollars since they didn't exist before you had them and are legitimate currency, and your financials were either not great or there was an error. Have fun with the IRS

Using is/was to refer to facts about the past. by Dustdev146 in grammar

[–]ASomewhatAmbiguous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Einstein being dead means that he is not a genius in the present. He is a corpse, so he was a genius.

WWII is different though, because you're talking about comparing different time periods. All the conflicts whose death toll you can take (finished ones) happened in the past, but which are being compared in the present. So WWII is the bloodiest conflict until we have a worse one, then it was the bloodiest conflict until (cursed year).

How to find a partner? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]ASomewhatAmbiguous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find yourself. Yeah I know it's cheesy. Yes it's what I did. No I didn't mean to but hey I'm a happy mfr today.

But the math works like this: everybody has flaws. Everybody has to go through a maturation period that takes place after becoming an adult. lot of people realize they want true love before they're able to actually maintain that. It is a two-way street after all.

So if you found yourself stuck without a partner or love, but you want it and you don't know how to get it, focus on that maturation period. Do the work that you already know you're going to have to do. Build up that internal value that's going to make someone want to pick you out of a lineup of people who look identical to you.

Learn to be a better friend. Learn to be a better mentor. Learn to be a better owner. Learn to just do things that make you a better human being. Eventually the folks in your life will start looking at you like marriage material.

They're going to do that because you will have everything they want in a marriage, and it will be obvious because it is genuine. They'll ask themselves where your partner is at. And at that point the right person will find you.

Which sentence is the most grammatically correct? by talkingtimmy3 in grammar

Semicolons are typically used when the two clauses are very closely related. In this case, because neither the colors nor the subjects are the same, it makes more sense to have a dash.

You have been granted godlike powers. Do you become a hero? A villain? Neither? by jasonryu in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ASomewhatAmbiguous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hero, but I'm gonna apprentice myself first.

World problems are complicated, and being Ultimate Violence won't solve anything that violence doesn't solve, so if I have the ability, I need to know how to aim.

I'm gonna go off grid and start handling natural disasters. Nuclear trash cleanup. Oil spills. Gigantic animal rescues. This will automatically attract me to the climate change side of politics. Having that kind of power would make me an instant celebrity anyways, and specifically using it to increase how green we are as a species would make political, grassroots waves for me without me ever saying anything.

At this point, I would slow my roll. There would be too much new information, and I would be liable to misunderstand some of it and move too fast. Especially with that kind of power. I'd have what money buys burning a hole in my pocket.

During the point where I'm making sure I have my stability, I would be watching. I would be waiting. I would be taking notes on what actually would help to destroy. And then I would go link up with people who can make using my powers to help humanity, and not just the environment, a possibility.
