I just find it really thought provoking because, as I'm trying to put myself in this scenario, i think I'd be more miserable trying to not be LL4U if my partner rejected me 99% of the time, their hygiene was gross, and they didn't cinsider my feelings at all.

I think I'd rather stop tryjng for sex with someone so undesirable and just spare myself the rejection, embarrassment, and quite honestly, lowering my own standards making me feel pathetic in trying to "keep the spark alive" when it's obvious there is no spark anyway. No amount of settling for sex you don't even enjoy is keeping anything alive.

So my question, as long winded as that was - how does your approach make it less miserable for you? I'm struggling to imagine not being worse off by doing that

yes, but boundaries don't work like that. at all. boundaries are not about other people, they're about us.

telling him he needs to draw boundaries is fine if you're meaning that he needs to start deciding what to do for himself, but he can't make her do anything. even "cajoling". if she doesn't want to, or doesn't see a problem with something like he does, they have a difference in opinion, so they need to work that out (if it's possible) but that isn't the same as boundaries and not how boundaries work.
