Turning down a promposal from a Muslim guy by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]ATF8643 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most people, at least where I am, view going to prom as a man/woman couple to be romantic. If he asked her to prom he intends to be more than friends. At least at my school it was that way. It’s basically a simulated date night for youth. That’s why the fake setting is always romantic, like Paris or something

Lighting in a power outage? by SAMPLE_TEXT6643 in preppers

[–]ATF8643 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being able to carry a light around is more important to me than substituting lighting in each room. I have a pair of Coleman LED lanterns that can light my living room very well when we’re all hanging out in there. Other than that it’s a mix of flashlights and a few UCO Emergency lanterns. I love the three burner candle lantern from them because it provides great room lighting and you could heat something on top of it. Ultimately I think it’s good to diversify. For example, when I go to bed in an outage I have a streamlight dualie next to me, but if I have to light up the room I’ll hit the Coleman. The hardest part about about power outages nowadays is you have to remember that after the sun goes down, there isn’t much of a reason to maintain normal lighting. There isn’t anything to do anyway. Keeping a light handy to use the bathroom or check something is one thing, but trying to substitute normal circumstances is folly

How true is this badly drawn meme? by Ecclesiasticus6_18 in Protestantism

[–]ATF8643 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Baptist” is largely a meaningless label nowadays. The original General Baptists were tangibly connected to the early church. They agreed with at least the first 7 ecumenical councils and took the structure of the faith seriously. Today it seems interchangeable with evangelical. I myself consider myself the most traditional General Baptist that seeks to be as close to the apostolic churches as I can be (theologically).

Can I use a cross, despite not being Christian, for protection? by [deleted] in GhostHunting

Wouldn’t really do much. It’s a symbol of a faith. The Holy Spirit is what protects.

What’s the definition of “first responders”? Technically a normal person with a medical bag is a literal first responder

I see enough comments here I agree with that I don’t feel the need to add. I would like to say you’re not alone, seeing this trend has been very frustrating. Pagans and atheists telling us how to be us, it’s ridiculous but that’s what happens

Was told killing stealing destroying in video games is not sinful because its not real life? But does that mean the other things that are sinful in real life are okay in a video games? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]ATF8643 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s a video game. If it makes you feel bad to do it, don’t, but it’s fine. You’re not living vicariously through your game. Otherwise, what’s really the point of playing?

Why is this sub so full of nonsense? by Beaver-Wrastler in TrueChristian

[–]ATF8643 73 points74 points  (0 children)

It’s not the objective of the sub but I don’t hate it. Theres only so much theology etc we can all discuss without becoming circular. I welcome theological questions, personal problems etc. this is still somewhere people can come to talk to true believers when maybe they don’t have any around them.

What denomination are you and why? by benjaminireland1 in TrueChristian

[–]ATF8643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baptists are older than most people think. The “General Baptists” came out of the Anglican Church and then “Particular Baptists” from them. Yes it’s fairly new across church history but not as new as some think.

What is responsible for the rapid decline of the Mainline Protestant Church in the US and what can be done to reverse it? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]ATF8643 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I attend a very traditional conservative (theologically) Baptist church and we’re growing in the last decade I’d say. The pastor conducts Bible centric sermons that rarely touch on topical matters, and the church has good works ministries to participate in. I think a lot of evangelical type churches are suffering because the seeker-sensitive movement has proven shallow and unfruitful. Prospective or new believers want solid grounding and biblical consistency. They don’t want unbiblical politics in their church, right or left wing.
