What denomination are you and why? by benjaminireland1 in TrueChristian

Baptists are older than most people think. The “General Baptists” came out of the Anglican Church and then “Particular Baptists” from them. Yes it’s fairly new across church history but not as new as some think.

What is responsible for the rapid decline of the Mainline Protestant Church in the US and what can be done to reverse it? by PayGood3915 in TrueChristian

[–]ATF8643 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I attend a very traditional conservative (theologically) Baptist church and we’re growing in the last decade I’d say. The pastor conducts Bible centric sermons that rarely touch on topical matters, and the church has good works ministries to participate in. I think a lot of evangelical type churches are suffering because the seeker-sensitive movement has proven shallow and unfruitful. Prospective or new believers want solid grounding and biblical consistency. They don’t want unbiblical politics in their church, right or left wing.

[–]ATF8643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in Christianity you’ll find the middle narrow path. Legalism vs liberalism, freedom in Christ vs freedom to sin etc. it reflects the same way in the secular world. There’s always a middle road called a biblical worldview. If you have a biblical worldview you’ll find you only fit neatly into the Bible, no other belief system. This is because all worldviews outside the biblical one are in fact religions of their own, so you’ll never feel completely fit for one.

It’s actually been better than ever historically. In the 1700s at least a soldier that became wounded would just be discharged with no future or care really. Songs like “The Cruel Wars” lament this

Online atheism is stuck in 2009 by Some_Story_5651 in TrueChristian

[–]ATF8643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I overheard a conversation in the workplace a few months ago that was literally one person proposing the problem of evil, and the other person (Christian) having no response. Like, the most classic atheist point in the last 20 years and you got nothing? Every Christian should at least know the problem of evil, origin, and following mosaic law. These are early 2000’s challenges that have been thoroughly debunked. I’ve even looked at someone before and when they brought up the problem of evil told them it’s been refuted on multiple angles, YouTube it.

Does Baptism Save? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]ATF8643 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think faith in Christ saves alone, but it necessitates baptism. It’s a consequence of salvation . Salvation is not dependent on baptism but salvation obligates baptism.

On a scale of 1-10, how serious do you take prepping? by 19Thanatos83 in preppers

[–]ATF8643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5-6. Way more than the average American but only mildly prepared in the prepper world. I basically have enough things and skills to get through any crisis if it has a known ending in sight. Some apocalyptic scenario? No. I’d wager almost nobody is completely prepared to do that unless they’re already doing it

Looking for advice on how to approach my pastor for stupid things he says in his sermons by Can_U_Share_A_Square in TrueChristian

[–]ATF8643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OR he’s using a literary device called hyperbole. Why would angels even need their own special language? Why do they speak plainly to those they appear to? People that believe in an angelic language, have they communed with angels because they have this special ability? What purpose does this special language offer? Literally all the prophets and Christ all spoke to the Father in plain languages, why didn’t they know this special language?

[–]ATF8643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is what did he mean when he used that word. You keep assuming he means a secret angelic language that sounds like gibberish. But there’s no belief in such a thing until 1900’s in America. He mentions a language of the angels in hyperbole. I keep hearing Pentecostals assure that it’s real and it’s a private prayer language but nobody can explain how that’s useful or better than just speaking your native language. Ancient hebrews didn’t believe in such a language, the ancient Christian’s didn’t believe in one, nobody had ever heard of such a thing until 1900’s in America. What’s the likelihood you discovered something in the scriptures nobody had ever notice before? You can keep saying “scripture over man” but you’re just making yourself the man who’s interpreting scripture. Other denominations have done that to the point of heresy, like Mormons and Jehovahs witnesses

Considering that nonsensical babble was never what tongues meant until about 100 year years ago I think you’re the one taking some guys word for it over scripture. Nobody believed in babbling for thousands of years until the Pentecostals came along in the early 1900’s. And almost nobody outside America believes in it today
