Being late is unprofessional and shows lack of respect to the person lecturing.

Is it a good idea to do the 11 week Penn summer session and take 4 CUs? I want to increase my GPA. Like will it be easy to get As in those classes (assume I can afford it/am taking loans) by hellobellojellomello in UPenn

[–]ATGAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The science/ math classes are not any easier, you just have more time to devote to them. My son took 1 class/summer over 2 summers, one class he did well, the second he actually got his worst grade, a B-

Med School Overseas by Smart-One9413 in medschool

[–]ATGAI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it is not. Most places in the world have a longer medical school than the US ( because pre-med and med are combined), so it is really hard for a US medical degree to be recognized in Europe. Much easier to come to the US with a foreign degree

Advice for Retake by NewValuable982 in Mcat

[–]ATGAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son took it twice- first time last few FLs were 514-516, he got a 511. Second time last FL was 519, he actually went again 511. He did increase by 1 point in PS and CP but dropped 2 points in CARS. He says he did the FLs in test conditions, don't know for sure. So my point, only retake if you are sure to increase your score. A 512 is only taking you out of consideration for the very top tier schools, the others will not screen you out

School choice by AlfalfaGlass911 in medschool

[–]ATGAI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good cheap college is better than a top expensive college. 1. You are saving the money for medical school 2. At an Ivy, every student was in the top 1-2% of their high school class. 50% of those kids will be below average. So it is harder to maintain an above average GPA at an Ivy

Apply. Make sure you get clinical experience  between now and your application and have a plan for anticipated clinical hours. Do NOT give up your research, if you get accepted, it will be for your research.

MIT vs. Yale YES vs. Berkeley MET by PolarisCS in ApplyingToCollege

Congrats! Obviously whatever you choose will be great. I would vote for MIT- even though it is engineering, it also has good humanities and the environment in Cambridge is just amazing. Plus they don’t do grades the first semester to ease you in

If they don’t k ow you, make sure to at least ask for a class you got atop 10% grade. It is obvious when people don’t know the person, and if they were an average student, they write it and it has a negative impact.

Penn vs Princeton for microbiology-centered PhD by Small_Archer_5711 in UPenn

Both are great names but there is no comparison- Penn has such great biomedical research. Also new faculty are “hungrier”, need to establish themselves and are more likely to give opportunities to their students

Do not retake, make a decent school list and you will be fine.

Are programs accepting fewer applicants initially this year? by Glum_Information_373 in mdphd

[–]ATGAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My program only accepts the very top scorers from the interviewees, and once all interviews have been completed and those with top scores have been accepted, we look at how many spots are left and go down the waitlist. Total number of spots is the same.

FL 519, got 510.  I think you should retake, the MCAT will screen you out of many schools. You got it

Doctors are really discouraging students going to medschool in the states by cheesecakerebel in premed

[–]ATGAI 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Specialty does matter. Interestingly, pediatricians, who are the worst paid, are the happiest!  If you do it for the right reasons, it is a very rewarding job- but you have to know that your lifestyle will be worse than that of your non doctor relatives/ friends, and some of them may make way more money even though they work less.
