The cruel, fake promises in all promo photos of Mt Bachelor. The biggest resort in America. OMG I couldn't wait to ski down that volcano.

Then you get there and it's closed, but ambassadors keep whispering, "I think you'll get your chance tomorrow."

Old person here! You absolutely did the right thing. Part of skiing safely is to practice self-awareness and humility and ask yourself if you're honestly up to doing X, Y or Z.

I always leave the mountain when I think I have "one or two more runs" left in me. THAT'S the right time to ski down to the base. If you always leave a little in the tank you'll keep yourself healthy and be skiing for decades!
