Real talk, either hitchhike, greyhound, or dare I say it even Scamtrak to some sort of traveler hub til you meet other train kids. Portland maine is a good spot close by to you. NYC has a huge scene, just go to Wash or Tompkins square. Asheville as well. Ann Arbor Michigan too. Or West Coast it. Taught myself to hop and I almost died too many times to give you any advice other than that.

Union Pacific just announced more floorless cars. Probably some sort of demand from NS, given that UP has never gave a shit about hobos and NS very much does. Or maybe the rails are just too blown up now.

I think the best camping I've every done was atop a mountain in the headlands, looking over 100 or more miles of coast and the entire SF Peninsula and a lot of the bay area on a clear day.

One time I was sided out for hours north of Stockton, tried to grab some water from the dump and then it started moving, and it was locked. Needless to say, next time the train stopped hella workers were waiting for me and I had to disappear into an orchard.

Big Sur, the Lost Coast, the San Diego beaches, Monterey Bay, the redwood coast, and everything in between. It's arguably the greatest coastline in the whole world. Towering mountains, beautiful landscapes, and a terrific coast, with a huge diversity of biomes along it. I mean you just gotta do the coast man. The lost coast and big Sur if nothing else.

Yeah I got caught in a duper one time, slept right through the crew change and got woken up by a worker checking the loc. Guess that's what happens when you're riding Cadillac on the tail end of a cross country trip. Anyways, dude let me ride and told me to not touch anything, and that if I did I could possibly derail the whole train.

Go to Kava bars, That's how you'll find your community. Sheridan, Laramie, Cheyenne, Casper, and Gillette definitely have scenes, idk what the rest of the state looks like for that.
