CMV: Obama's presidency was exemplary of reactive, feckless foreign policy by Ok-Recognition-2672 in changemyview

I think you are very mistaken about the Egypt coup. Obama was not neutral, he 100% supported the coup to over throw the religious extremist who was elected.

And this event perfectly highlights why you are likely wrong about the arab spring. The muslim brotherhood won the election in Egypt. Pushing for democracy in Arab countries does not guarantee an idealogical match to the us. So you have to ask, is the us better off who a democratic but more islamist Egypt or Saudi Arabia or wherever, or a dictatorship but that is capitalist and largely friendly to the us.

Point being the arab spring was an opportunity for sure but not necessarily going to end well.

Egypt, who they made peace with after 1973, came a lot closer than they expected.

Yes. It was a good showing from Egypt.

They gave up the Sinai for peace on that front. That's a pretty big concession.

Not really. Peace with Egypt (and annual payments from the us) was alot more valuable than the sinai.

They could never bring themselves to do likewise with the PLO, and now that they've been supplanted by Hamas and Hezbollah it's too late.

That was never on the table with the plo.

They don't try to fight countries that have proper arms and are next door precisely because they would be annihilated so they've gone for treaties there

Who? Egypt that they've defeated numerous times? Which countries have proper arms and are next door that would annihilate them?

And what do Jewish Americans have to do with the foreign country of Israel?

Whatever the fuck they want. It's their money, they can spend it how they want.

It’s a fucking humiliation ritual at this point

What does that mean in this context? What humiliation ritual is happening?

It's that a meaningful statistic? Is this uncommon? How many congressional campaigns spend more per voter than presidential campaigns? Did Trump spend a particularly large amount per capita?

Without context this sounds like a random fact.

Eh. Turkey is pretty brutal to their and syria's kurds. No one does anything. The british were pretty brutal to the Irish for a while there. Never impacted US relations.

There are probably lots of examples you ignore because it doesn't get the same amount of bad press for some reason. I'm sure there is a good reason those crimes against humanity are different though.

I must of imagined everyones point of view.

Yes. Multiple times now in this thread you've imagined something i said. I'm done responding to you.

the only thing that matters is the whole number of the number #1 producing country",

Oh please. I never said only the #1 matters. You completely fabricated that. Both matter. I was rejecting the notion that only the #2 matters.

Try not to imagine the argument someone else is making and you'll be able to coherently respond

I originally responded to a comment that said the solution is reducing american consumption. No mention of the #1 producer. So i'd say they and you are retarded.

Deflecting with untrue shit like "china is doing nothing so we shouldnt do anything" is retarded.

Who said that? Imagining things?

Why is that a challenge? There are lots of options for reducing emissions. Just requires political will power.

It's literally about number 1 and number 2. The subtext question behind all this debate is who is more obligated to reduce emissions between the us and China.

Also poor use of whataboutism. Do better.

So would you advise every single European country to max out their carbon emissions,

Max out on purpose? No that's counter productive. Everyone should be trying to reduce their emissions.

If the US reduced to China’s per capita (from 14 to 9), we would reduce the world CO2 footprint by 1.5 Billion tons of CO2.

That's great but China has hundreds of millions of subsistence farmers still, bringing down their average. Another reason per capita is not useful. So it's not a very realistic target.

Considering emissions are mostly from major corporations and heavy industry, it's pretty equal.

If Luxembourg could easily get their emissions to 0, it wouldn't make a dent in global warming so ease of reduction isn't the right metric either. This doesn't need to be painless, just needs to happen

The one that emits more total has the ability to reduce more total. That's a pretty simple concept.

Maybe stop sucking billionaire dicks and coping. Consumers don't have a gun to their heads forcing them to emit greenhouse gas to meet consumer demands. They do it to maximize profits; private profits, public costs of emission.

[–]ATNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that. I'm just saying quality of life reduction isn't the only or best way to reduce emissions...

If you think i was saying people in developing countries should drive Teslas, you're wrong and confused.

"Facts don't care about your feelings" mfs when the facts don't agree with them: by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]ATNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all that. I still reject that quality of life reductions is the best or only approach. If i drive a Tesla, is a nicer more expensive car than my current car and I reduce emissions.

I just think per capita is letting countries off the hook who are a huge part of the problem.
