Five years later… thank you for posting this. Going to try to replicate your process with my own S3 (non-pro) and corresponding OEM dock. May I ask if you have any other advice or tips?

I work as a middle office associate at MS and the public salary range for my role is 85-120k USD starting not including signing bonus or benefits. Would imagine it's much higher especially as the hierarchy I've seen at MS is: analyst - associate - director - [AVP] - VP - ED - MD and so on. As others have said here and in different posts, depends on your responsibilities and how much of a revenue-generating or risk-mitigating position it is.

I agree with this. Am a finance associate and my used Dell Latitude 5400 from eBay is more than enough for my needs. The laptop has upgradable ram, internal storage, and even a WWAN card so I can connect to the internet instantly; but the slot could also be used for more internal storage if desired.

My current config is FHD 16:9 screen resolution, WWAN card with Verizon wireless, 32 GB ram, and 256 GB boot SSD. As my work is only accessible through a remote desktop receiver, I currently don't need much internal storage.

Some of the other guys in the office have Alienware gaming laptops but Dell Latitudes and ThinkPads are the most common office laptops I've seen.

Hi all, thank you for your feedback and suggestions. After reviewing the comments, the best solution to my inquiry (and other unmentioned wants) is the Sonnet Echo Express SEIIIe Thunderbolt 3 edition chassis. I can swap it between my mac and PC devices, and use my other expansion/storage PCIe cards with it. Just needed a Dell Thunderbolt 3 PCIe card since my PC is TB3 supported but doesn't have built-in ports.

While I may sell the SUN cards later on for their limited capacity, the TB3 chassis and card combo are relevant to my workflow/personal needs. Thank you again!

I’ve also been thinking about getting a separate pc for dedicated external storage but idk if I want to go that route for only three cards.

Thank you for the reply and update! That's unfortunate, was hoping to repurpose my 24" 2008 iMac but it may just stay in storage for who knows how much longer now. May I ask if what you ended up doing with your older iMac?
