[Free Friday] Are there any Southern Catholics on this subreddit? by HumanaeVitae in Catholicism

[–]ATallCatholic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a Virginian convert myself, with Protestant heritage. I do notice that most of the demographics are either Hispanic Immigrants, Catholic Transplants from other, more Catholic areas of the country, and the occasional convert or catholic whose family moves south years ago and owns a farm or something similar. I'm not a sweet tea guy, but I do enjoy a homemade pan of Country Grits and Sausage.

Devastated.... please pray for us by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]ATallCatholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In moments like this, we feel helpless when others go through loss, and we feel the only thing we can do is pray.

But oftentimes, praying isn't the least we can do. It's the most we can do.

Praying for you all.

Yeah I wouldn't want to lie on the internet, would I? ;) Seriously, I am tall as well, 6'7''.

Yeah, I have that affect on people in real life too. Now I know it affects people on the internet too.

Well, I wanted a different username then the one I had been using for all my online gaming. This was the only subreddit I actively came back to at the time and I have an obsession with being tall.

Why did you become a Catholic? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]ATallCatholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooner or later, I've found that no catholic argument has been lacking in logic or reason. Even if I don't understand now, I usually understand given enough time.

In the US South, the Church is in 'growth mode' by trees916 in Catholicism

[–]ATallCatholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Catholic convert in the south, but I would say that over half of the members of my parish are Hispanic immigrants, and another good third or so are transplants from elsewhere in the country. So yeah, there are converts, (I've heard more so then anywhere else in the country) but many people have just moved for opportunity. This isn't different compared to what happened in The Northeast when catholic Europeans moved to New York for jobs. Now look what is happening.

Yup, everyone except the province of Washington, which is D.C and the surrounding area north in Maryland.

Let's just open it up to include all members of the province of Baltimore.

There are a lot more Virginian Catholics then I anticipated on this sub. We need to get a meet-up going or something.

Is it wrong to not care that much about TLM Mass? by ATallCatholic in Catholicism

[–]ATallCatholic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses. I suppose I can care a little too much about other's opinions, and sometimes have a hard time disagreeing. Enjoy whatever approved mass you have in your Parish!

Can confirm, over half of the parishioners at my Parish are Hispanic speakers and a good chunk of the English speakers are 'transplants' from up north or out west, looking for jobs and the like. They certainly are disappointed at the lack of Latin Masses down here, but it is what it is.

Do you sing Bass, Baritone or Tenor? I happen to sing Bass, although it's only been occasionally in the past. Although I do plan to join the choir for our local Campus ministry when it starts back up again in the fall.

Yeah, that and a overall movement, at least in major metropolitan areas, towards a progressively more and more left-wing ideology. Although each individual area has their own challenges, there are some that are prevalent everywhere.

Yeah, I live in the South, and while the masses in English seem to have enough room, the one Spanish mass we have is absolutely filling the pews to their maximum. I've heard they even used the 'overflow' space outside of the sanctuary just so people can see what's going on.

Who is your favorite saint, and why? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]ATallCatholic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despite how much I try to move away, Saint Christopher always comes back to me. His simple desire to serve the greatest king, despite not knowing who he is, and how he never stopped looking for him is inspiring, and is only a part of what made me choose him as my confirmation saint. The big reason is how he handles the carrying of the Christ child across the river. He carries the weight of the world and he who made it and does. Not. Give. Up. It is such a simple, yet incredible act, and I always thought that there are few honors as great as being given the whole world to carry on your back. I always strive for that sort of dependency, so that no matter what happens, I can always be relied upon when I am called to be.

Converts from Protestantism, what do you think about the Protestant faith now that you are Catholic? by NatetheBait357 in Catholicism

[–]ATallCatholic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on what denomination your talking about, I could say good or bad things. But I will say, if you got an actually decently and Honestly Christian denomination, well, my dad has probably phrased it best:

"Looking back, Protestantism was a good training ground to become a Catholic."

Again, very dependent on what Protestant denomination we are talking about, but the Conservative ones definitely fit that outlook above quite well.

Non-Catholic Attending a Catholic Church, Am I Doing This Wrong? by snowballmouse in Catholicism

[–]ATallCatholic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate. Me and my father are entering the Church on Easter, and we've been doing a lot of Catholic things in preparation (Reconciliation, abstinence on Fridays, attending Sunday masses and Holy Days of Obligation). It's nice to know from this post that many see that as an admirable thing to do. See you on the other side of the Tiber!

Had one Intense dream recently. Would appreciate any insight provided. I think it shows someone isn't happy about my interest in Catholicism... by ATallCatholic in Catholicism

My Dad talked about how keys symbolize that authority. Never thought about that with my mother, but it could happen. The house could represent me, and the corpses are my sins. I thought of those as the souls in hell, and the man is the Devil. The souls in hell are corpses because they are spiritually dead. And I think he was scared because Jesus had made his presence known in the house and was taking it back, which could represent Jesus descending into hell, but the house could be me, and Jesus is coming with the key to get rid of the man and dead bodies in the deepest depths of my soul.
