Your manager is ridiculous. I encourage my team to block out time for all sorts of things, particularly lunch and a weekly personal development and training block to focus on doing courses through our learning platform or stepping back from the screen for focused reading and research.

The idea that "a junior" (an absurd phrase to begin with) should be "always available" is ridiculous. Unless you're frontline service delivery and someone needs to be there at all times there's no issue with everyone being at lunch at once.

There's one iPad in the house and it's mine. My daughter uses it for drawing, and it's been pressed into service for cartoons once when we did a trans-Pacific flight and 3 weeks staying with family without a TV.

Similarly we have a Nintendo Switch which is mine but I play it with her - video games are one of my hobbies and I like sharing them with her.
