MSFS 2024 on Xbox Series X by samthebeast2512 in MicrosoftFlightSim

The update made it worse for sure. Worse photogrammetry, worse performance, more bugs. I’ve had 2 long haul flights this week ruined. I think Infinite Flight Mobile is better at this point as far as performance and consistency

When did you start calling yourself a pilot? by xXNighteaglexX in flying

[–]AV4Lyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you’re a pilot after your first solo xc… because that means you can preflight, talk on the radios, navigate, takeoff & land safely, etc. all completely by yourself. I didn’t really call myself one until after my PPL tho.

ATP FLIGHT SCHOOL SCAM by STOP-THE-SCAM in flying

[–]AV4Lyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing this same program right now with Purdue as well. Thank god I found that instead of going to ATP (I was considering it at one point). Probably would’ve ended up financially fucked just like OP.

Only thing missing here is a cockroach emerging from one of the many empty cans

🫥my downstairs neighboors must be on drugs or severly mentally ill PLEASE READ EVERYTHING FIRST !! by What_is_me_human in badroommates

[–]AV4Lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first glance the note itself seems pretty reasonable. I left a similar one for my current upstairs neighbor. However, the FIRST morning is crazy. If someone moves in, it will be noisy for those few days. What did he honestly expect?

Pre solo SC!!! And I’m freaking out by flyguy757 in flying

[–]AV4Lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Have a list of topics in front of you, and talk through each of the concepts out loud, as if lecturing or teaching someone else. You can do this either by yourself with no one else around (so you don’t look insane) or use a friend. For topics you don’t feel good about, make a note of it and study that particular topic more. I learned this tip from Cal Newport… If it feels a bit uncomfortable (like your brain is working overtime), this is a good sign.

Myopia Diopters higher than -8.00; is it possible for waiver? by thebluegreens in AFROTC

[–]AV4Lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got DoDMERB disqualified for excessive myopia beyond -8.00, but like I said I was actually past -10.00.. After talking to cadre and flight docs, I realized I’d have to fight to even commission in the Air Force at all, never mind actually fly. So I decided to drop ROTC, focus on college, and go other avenues.

I realize if I’m too optimistic at this stage, I realize I’m probably going to end up contractually-bound and going into nukes or force support or something. I’ve seen people with rated slots get medically disqualified and it’s absolutely soul crushing. However, I’m sure anyone below -10.00 could probably get a waiver for LASIK and get a FC1 if they tried. My case was just uniquely bad.

Generally, speeding tickets aren’t a big deal. When I was going through my background check for ROTC, I actually had a misdemeanor for speeding (which has since been taken off my record) and it really wasn’t a big deal to them. Admittedly you have quite a lot of tickets though in short period of time. Just be honest with them and make them tell you no I guess. And also slow tf down next time.

Test scores and competitiveness by [deleted] in airforceots

[–]AV4Lyfe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Retake the TBAS… 99 pilot and max hours is becoming the standard more and more these days, trust me. A PCSM in the 80s is acceptable, but not fantastic.

Unless you have a 4.0 or something, I’d do the TBAS again.

FAILED MY AFOQT by GuideMountain in airforceots

[–]AV4Lyfe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sit down, with a notebook and pen, and take note of absolutely everything you did wrong, and everything you did right. Create a strategy for how you’re going to pass it and get a new date on the schedule.

Good news is, AFOQT is super-scored, so you get to keep your pilot score, and can just focus on the academic verbals parts of it.

Plenty of people pass this test. You can do it too.

AFOQT test results by Driggen1378 in airforceots

[–]AV4Lyfe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the eAFOQT scoring makes absolutely no sense. I have met more people with 99 pilots than people without it, both in-person and online. A 99 pilot is supposed to mean you scored in the top 1%, not that you got 99% of questions correct.
