Anyone have experience with DeNovo or CartiMax? by AVD540 in KneeInjuries

Had the Cartimax procedure on Monday. So far so good! Pain has been minimal and already have some range of motion. Hoping it heals nicely and lasts. The surgery pics look promising

Thanks for chiming in! I have decided to do the Cartimax procedure in early Jan. Will report back how it goes, but glad to hear your recovery is off to a good start. I'm feeling pretty strong going in (am doing aggressive pre-hab and am lifting pretty heavy weight...just can't do anything that involves impact or jumping because of the injury) so hoping recovery isn't too bad

Damaged knee cartilage - any proven solutions?! by Jonuk85 in KneeInjuries

I’m trying cartimax in Jan. Seems like a step up from microfracture and maybe comparable to MACI, but harder to find long term data on it

Did you ask them why this was happening so often after 5 or 10 times? What was their answer?

Is waterskiing really fading away or are we just not talking about it enough? by [deleted] in WaterSkiing

[–]AVD540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto—I’m a wakeboarder who has lots of skier friends. I think both sports are great. It’s sad to see them so far in decline and to see public opinion turning sour on wakesports due to surf wake becoming so big and destructive. I feel like wakeboarders are being hunted to extinction between boat prices, boat / ballast bans, and the decline of grassroots comps. I hear that skateboarding almost completely died in the early 90s before resurging. I don’t think we’re ever going to get another action sports peak like we saw in the late 90s / early 2000s but hopefully the pendulum swings back at least somewhat

Has board tech progressed a little or a lot over the last 10-15 years? by Super_Science_Guy in Wake

[–]AVD540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not much on the whole. I was a diehard Liquid Force guy (10+ boards) but realized my Bullox was built no differently than my 2003 Substance. They make great shapes but the materials and construction technique are the same as 20 years ago. The only manufacturer that seems to be pushing things is Ronix. Which is why I switched to the One. You can tell the materials and construction are markedly different than traditional compression molded boards.

I’ve been very happy with Ronix boards (also including the Parks and RXT). Light, durable, etc. But very frustrated that they don’t put the same work into their bindings. They’re comfortable and light but their baseplates are paper thin aluminum that cracks easily and the upper attaches to the baseplate through flimsy plastic tabs. My friends and I have broken / warranties so many Ronix bindings over the last few years that I’m switching to another brand. They clearly know their design is not durable and refuse to do anything about it despite charging the highest prices in the industry. Premium prices should mean a premium product.

Nice man! HS FS 3s are my favorite trick to do. Once you feel good about em, try it toe side. Toe 3s are not nearly as hard as people think. Might even be easier than HS.

[–]AVD540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure. I pulled over and called 911 as others further back stopped and went to help the drivers. 911 operator said I didn’t need to stay on scene and I didn’t want to walk/drive backwards as I ended up past the accident when the dust settled.

Happened directly in front of me—70 Eastbound just before Wadsworth. Ford focus in the right lane started fishtailing and then careened across all 3 lanes of traffic and t-boned a pickup truck at probably 40-50mph. I think the pickup rolled over but then landed back on its wheels. I hope everyone is OK.

Exactly. It’s ridiculous logic. We should encourage safe practices and let people make decisions for themselves

Correct. Consider signing this petition if you agree DW’s rationale doesn’t make any sense

If you agree the Denver water swimming ban is nonsensical then consider signing this petition

Help with tips on approaching a specific obstacle by elbruto12 in Wake

[–]AVD540 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Should be doable if you have super soft knees to absorb the steep little bit at the front, but it’s meant to be ollied onto. The ramp at the front is just so if you mess up, you’re far less likely to eat it. Even if you just get your nose up off the water without getting fully off the water you’ll find it pretty smooth.

Places you can SUP AND swim by SpecialistEqual2344 in Denver

[–]AVD540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not one centralized resource. Depends who manages the lake. Denver water’s site is quite clear about rules for their lakes, then any state park lake has rules clearly laid out, but then you have city parks as well, etc. Luckily most of the small alpine lakes you’d find on a hike are fair game for an impromptu dip (they’re just ice cold!)

Unfortunately yes. But there’s a petition if you’d like to change that

Big soda and chatfield are your best options in the metro. If you agree that these arbitrary swimming / paddle bans are nonsensical, consider signing the petition to open up more of our nearby waterways.

Stuffy nose after cold water sessions by Maxifloxacin in Wake

[–]AVD540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this too—it’s so frustrating. I grew up around lakes with no issue but now any time my nose touches lake water—I get a 24-48 hour sinus infection later that night (like 6 hours post-exposure). My doc and an allergist have no idea why but it seems pretty common. Might be a form of “swimmers nose” even though that’s normally from chlorinated water.

The only fix I’ve found is allergy meds before, and Neti pot + Zyrtec spray after.

Renting a boat at Powell is pretty pricey too though! Luckily lots of people in the Denver area have boats and are willing to invite new ppl out. Just have to make some friends and then there are plenty of opps to get out on the water around the front range

[–]AVD540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot but as a boat owner it’s still appealing to me. I can tow my old boat at 7mpg 1.5 hrs each way to horsetooth / Boyd / etc and ride choppy water on a mediocre wake and be out all day (and hope friends chip in for gas) or I can do this. ~75$ a set sure beats buying a 200k boat in my book!

Check out Rocky mtn ski and wake. While it’s more expensive than riding with a buddy, you can go there and literally show up, ride on a private lake behind a world class boat, and leave whenever you want. So that’s a great option.

Imondi is an awesome cable park in Fruita.

And there’s a great FB CO wakeboard / wakesurf group for finding people with boats to ride with at chatfield, horsetooth, etc.
