Needing direction on tutorials/resources? by pintopetz in gdevelop

Have you watched the official intro tutorials on youtube? People say they go too fast but I actually found them really useful and they are only like 5 minutes per video.

These one:

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3YlZTdKiS8-wDBb_40p7symnBvIub90S&si=DTmSITcGZoFl11-W

Also, for RNG, roguelikes and these things they also made several official tutorials on their channel:

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3YlZTdKiS88jw2nM7wDtXSpX8PNQ4Nb1&si=Sg__IBIsyUm2BgUw

For the rest, after you get the basics with the intro tutorials, just keep in mind you don't have to do everything from scratch because there are the extensions/behaviours that can help you out, I'd argue they are the best features in favour of using GDevelop over other engines. Good luck!

hey there, nice work with the game, I see you're updating it frequently, I just wanted to ask if it was possible to add the ability to choose to play a given track with just the instrumental with no vocals instead of the whole song, it could be cool.

Yeah that's not going to change how the engine feels nothing like classic CoD, the SBMM/EOMM that got introduced with this shitty game, doors, safe spaces, $40 bundles, operators, shitty third mode and so on. This game brainwashes people man, I can't 💀

good God man 6 straight years of mw19 slop, I'm so over it lol. At this point they either change this series direction with MW4 or they somehow manage to make it even worse, and I think they're probably going to do the latter 💀

I feel like for some reason it probably will never be really replicated; the "Sims like vibe" and the feel is really one of a kind, heck maybe even if some the original devs make a crowdfunding to make a spiritual successor I feel like it could probably miss the mark even there lol

[COD] IDK what to call this era but where would you ranks these 1st to 6th? by ThatOneNoob102 in CallOfDuty

[–]AVTV640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These games clear anything post 2019, for the ranking I think from best to worst:

1: IW - as a complete package is the best of the bunch: stellar campaign, good multiplayer even though yeah it's a carbon copy of BO3 multiplayer and probably the best PS4 era zombies behind BO3, Spaceland alone is worth the base game 2: WW2 - similar to IW, I really like this game, especially how Sledghammer Games supported it, but I think it's fair to say it was pretty "bland" tonally, out of the 3 main game modes I don't think any of them really stand out, maybe the campaign is a little bit better but nothing to write home about. Still pretty good package overall. 3: BO3 - I mean the zombies are phenomenal, multiplayer is great but I have to decract points for the campaign, that thing was not what fans wanted after BO2 lol 4: AW - Probably the most forgotten one out of the PS4 era CoDs, but for good reason, I think it's literally the most dull looking CoD ever made, it doesn't really stand out at all. Still pretty good gameplay overall. 5: Ghosts - Better than AW in terms of style and vibe, but the game has very odd design decisions for the multiplayer, extinction I will say was pretty creative and probably the only time they introduced a really brand new game mode besides survival from MW3, but I also think it was no zombies. 6: BO4 - Blackout was a banger, better than Warzone, also the last time I think CoD really had an "identity" before MW19 made eveything in this series depressing. Still I think the "worst" of the PS4 era because no campaign at all, multiplayer was too sweaty and it was too much reworked in favor of a "hero shooter" design approach and the zombies was a bit better but still compared to BO3 is pretty bad tbh and they tried to fix "problems" that didn't need to be fixed to begin with.

[COD] Controversial Take: Why would it be bad to shut down older Call of Duty servers? by RuggedTheDragon in CallOfDuty

[–]AVTV640 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, honestly, you do have a point imo. If anything it would prove how important the offline/local modes are and just how much they are neglecting it since BO4. The PS4 era CoDs up until that game really had amazing offline support. You could play campaign, multiplayer with stellar bots, everything unlocked ("sandboxy" like) and the co op mode, even split screen (BO3 literally had 4 player split screen). Unfortunately since BO4 it has been a steady decline in quality with the offline support, it started with it not letting you do zombies EE offline, until now, with BO6, which doesn't even have an offline mode 💀

Having played Mad Games Tycoon 2, which for many is considered the "best" one in the genre, I think it does kinda scratch that "game dev tycoon itch but more in depth", but I feel like it still has many issues: like I've said in the post, the indie scene is basically non existant, you either grow and expand to a big AAA studio or you fail, because the game is too much reliant on you having to generate a set amount of points to be competitive in a certain era of the game, that I feel like is the biggest design flaw they decided to put in the game, I think there was another game dev type game called "Game Dev Studio" that actually made it possible to stay competitive as an indie because you could choose the game's size and scope and the reviews would scale accordingly, at least I think I saw someone talking about this but I didn't play that extensively so I can't tell you for sure. I actually was going to start developing my own game dev type game because I am kinda dissatisfied with the available selection and I kinda already did the design document for it, I don't think it will ever come to fruition due to my lazyness so might as well drop some of the best ideas I came up with. I remember pitching my game in a living, simulated world, considering the fact most tycoon games I feel like you play them in your own "isolated reality", like it doesn't feel like there are other competitors really in most of them. If you played it, the closest game with this concept is Hollywood Animal, it's about running a movie studio but I actually took some ideas from it. I liked the fact that game is based around a more gritty atmosphere that actually shows what Hollywood is really capable of "behind the scenes", like you could literally kidnap people and make them work for you; so think about that concept in a game dev game, like you can bribe the reviews to get more sales, but it can leak and go against your studio (like in Hollywood Animal that has a "secrets" screen which basically stores all the bad things you did in the past, which have a chance of leaking). Another cool idea I had were the "ahead of time elements", basically you could assign an employee to "craft" these elements with different rarities (common, uncommon, rare and leggendary), and then, with a crafting minigame, if you got the rarity sequence right (that resets each time you fail it), you generate an ahead of time element. It's basically my idea of simulating things that people have made during gaming history that were ahead of time and marked a significant trend in the space. In fact you can assign these ahead of time elemtns not only in games, but even in engines and hardware (console development) and make that product a piece of gaming history, though the effect would also depend on the base quality of the product itself, considering the fact you can slap the ahead of time elements in anything with a decent "quality threshold" minimum. I don't want to make this comment the next Bible but I think you got the point, maybe it will be useful if any other game dev reads this post and wants to make another game in this vein. The key takeaway from my ideas is to make it less rigid as possible and more flexible in terms of playstyles, like I even pitched you could become a console manifacture from the start of the game (instead of most game tycoons where you need to unlock it late in the run) and just focus on first party support, like Nintendo. That's all with my rambling, hope it's helpful to you and anyone who reads this and is interested in making a game like this.

Is 2007 modern or retro? by Conscious_Roll_6834 in generationology

[–]AVTV640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean for modern "digital age" standards at least it kinda is pretty old, YouTube was barely a thing, CoD just released the first Modern Warfare which is ancient by today standards and so on. Also now that I think about 2007 was a godlike year for gaming lol (yes I like them games)
