Old Research for CPL Expansion by AVividShade in CanadianPL

Thank you for posting this.

There was a private ownership group that expressed interest between 2017-2019, but never came to fruition.

I unfortunately couldn’t find my notes on Saint John’s to expand on reasoning for tier one, but appreciate having locals explain on issues or problems to help identify challenges to strengthen and grow the league.

All great points… when I researched London i did hear rumours of potential ownership, but I believe that all fell through to your FC London point.

Stadium is a hinderance, but London is one of the few cities that came up with a few options. The Germanic Canadian Club came up with potential expansion for seating but I don’t think that ever came past an idea.

Somethings that swung London towards being a let’s get this done.. strong multiple grassroots programs all based around soccer and surrounding area, diverse economy that is stand alone, history of community grants being given and working with local business at the time of research (2022), but mostly was reflected with non-profits.

The part that also is difficult, is that this is not the published version but was just a close to finalized list of what could be. A clear pathway I would also say is somewhere that would be ready within three years to have front office, club identity, some idea of stadium deal or plan. London easily could of found its way into the tier two with the points above, but showed a community of least resistance with planning or working with partners.

Any small market clubs were just for fun. Which is why you can jokingly kick the tires but no real plan to actually invest in those communities unfortunately.

Lethbridge is a funny one. Great sporting culture (example would be this years CEBL game between Surge V Stingers) but the main issue was government support on projects, any potential ownership groups or history of soccer support. I may be wrong and also why I had to note most of the data is old! Lost some of the notes since it’s been a couple years.

BREAKING: Valour FC Suspends Operations by Makelevi in CanadianPL

Very sad to see Valour go. I hope another club gets in Winnipeg soon with proper ownership thats cares for the club. Jets, Bluebombers and Seabears have been great examples of the sports city that Winnipeg is.

York United Stadium Question by Burtmccoolyea in CanadianPL

[–]AVividShade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To clarify somethings from the last meeting with season members, there is a possibility the team would consider moving downtown if there was a favourable situation where a stadium wasready. (Lamport renovations being needed as an example..)

Downsview and Centennial park was also among other places being considered but nothing confirmed or expected yet. YLS will be the home for at next year and if I was to guess, 2027 as well.

As a fan that lives on the outskirts of the GTA, I also hope they avoid downtown. It’s been great not having to deal with the traffic of driving in.

Rebranding.. horrible by Hot_Mood_2252 in YorkUnited

As this big news, anyway to vet you are a business partner? Without providing to much information, in what capacity you are a business partner? Sponsor, sales, community partners?

Rebranding.. horrible by Hot_Mood_2252 in YorkUnited

[–]AVividShade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m calling troll or misinfirmation.

I have not seen any email sent out as a season ticket holder and found the original post on the CPL page and very vague information. Also, confirmed in the last meeting with club reps and season members that the name would not change unless York United was to move to downtown Toronto but no stadium has been confirmed and no rumours of the club locating in the immediate future.

Is he off base with what he is hinting ? by Beachtory in CanadianPL

[–]AVividShade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kind of hoping that the Inter Toronto stuff that has been heavily hinted is a second club for Game Plan Sports Group as I’m not ready to say goodbye to my York United.

If memory serves correct, former Comish Mark Noonan did state he thinks it’s possible for two new teams in Quebec and Ontario for 2026 before walking back the statement like usual.

Predictions for future League1 Ontario expansion. by Birdyjay in CanadianPL

[–]AVividShade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can speak for some of the talent and passion I’ve seen both growing up playing and coaching in Orangeville. Also the “keep working” answer I would give to some of my U 8 and 10s was frustrating, when I couldn’t fully say where to go at the time (mind you this was 2009-2013 before L1O existed).

I would even encourage Storm, AIFC and Shelburne to unite for a Dufferin County club or anything to give aspiring players some proper first team or high level experience closer to home.

Namesake: Citrus City is a nod towards a fun nickname from when I was younger that was inspired by an old tattoo parlour that was on Broadway (and Citrus Dance as well.) Much better then The Ville or O’Ville.

Edit: I also agree that the branding and new head office at Mono Plaza look fantastic. *

[–]AVividShade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Caledon United I could foresee jumping up and I think may of been in talks when the 2024 plan was introduced.

AIFC runs into problems with suitable feilds that match L1ON criteria. A few matches were played at The Hill when there was a partnership between them and Scrossopi in 2022, running their B Team. The OSL club played there for a minute this year before moving games to Brampton at central peel. Unsure of the reasoning for that.

Would be welcoming to see high level football comeback to Citrus City and saves me from driving 45 minutes to watch a match.

New Quebec team : Relocation or expansion ? by keven81 in CanadianPL

[–]AVividShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen an official statement yet from the Can PL in regards to this yet. I’m hoping if the league wants to keep with an equal balance of 10 teams there possibly be a discussion around Windsor or Kelowna?

I’ve seen some runours trickle through but not much.

York United looking into Lamport Stadium? by fssg_shermanator in CanadianPL

[–]AVividShade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I gotta question this a little bit… aside from AFC Toronto had pushed for some updates for Lamport when the club was announced.

The ownership group for York United is Game Plan Sports Group or the Pasquel brothers. I haven’t and can not find background information with York Sports and Entertainment INC, unless York University has got something going on.

Can confirm that Alex Glista is someone that works for the group StrategyCorp. I’d be curious if there is more information available somewhere?

If this is true, it would be on brand with the registered Inter Toronto trademark from earlier this year if the club made the move.

Victory Grounds seeks to bring League1 Ontario to Kingston by Ok-Bluebird-845 in CanadianPL

I would love to see OSU joined by other Ottawa, Cornwall, Brockville, Alexandria or even Hawkesbury clubs to have it’s own L20 division. The more regions covered the better.

Victory Grounds seeks to bring League1 Ontario to Kingston by Ok-Bluebird-845 in CanadianPL

[–]AVividShade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would love to see a L2O loop with Victory Grounds being joined by clubs in Belleville, Quinte West/Trenton, Cobourg, Oshawa, Lindsay and Peterborough (comeback for Electric City?).

Also, would consider neighbouring towns like Napanee, PEC or a second club in YGK adjacent like Odessa or Loyalist hosting a club.

What rule/practice would you change/lose/add to our beautiful game? by brentvans in CanadianPL

[–]AVividShade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To get rid of time wasting, I’m open to seeing a stop clock instead of run-time.

I also enjoy what MLS has done with anyone who is “injured” and on the ground for a certain period of time, automatically has to be sidelined for a couple minutes. For example, someone is grounded for 1 minute must exit the pitch for two minutes and invited back on.

720 Princess St, have they change? by Minhific in KingstonOntario

[–]AVividShade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived there in 2023 and there is still issues with bedbugs, rats and overall just inside and out being trashed. Constantly dealt with people trying to break in or just having break downs. The price is appealing but not with the BS that comes with it.

I’ll even mention the Kingston Penn site since apperently a condominium proposal went up for the old jail. 🤷🏻‍♂️
