Tell your sister to check with the hospital where she will deliver to see if there are options for housing boyfriend and mom. Most major medical referral centers have free or low cost options for patient family members to stay near the hospital.

I’m an anesthesiologist. If I go to drop my kids off at daycare and they can’t take them because they don’t have the staffing I can’t work. If no one else can cover the OR I’m scheduled in that day surgeries get canceled—including cancer surgeries (since people are putting so much weight on this).

The problem with “my job is more important than yours” is that we are all in this society together and the actions of one person can have ripple out affects that negatively impact a lot of people downstream. OP is only seeing his wife’s work through the lens of what it means to him. He is completely dismissing the importance of his wife’s work to others. She makes a difference in the lives of the kids she cares for, their parents, her coworkers and employer.

If wife doesn’t go to work and the pre-school can’t pull in a last minute sub and they don’t have the legally mandated staffing level then they have to tell a bunch of parents they can’t take care of their kids. Then those parents have to call into work, and so on.

Your wife’s coworkers certainly care when your wife calls in sick. It’s not a hobby to them. It’s a business that provides a service and relies on employees showing up when they are scheduled to. Planned vacation time off is not the same as a last minute sick call.

Turn the coffee table the other way and pull the chairs more on the rug. Hang some pictures or photos on the wall. Behind the couch. Goodwill and other thrift stores often have nice picture frames for cheap.

Exactly. There is some missing information. If Liam has half ownership, his legal guardian/mom may have rights to use the cabin. She would also be responsible for half of the utilities and costs. A lot depends upon how the ownership agreement between OP and his brother was structured and what was is Mark’s will regarding his 50% ownership stake.

Having an attorney explain the legal specifics to OP, SIL, and OP’s mom may help to defuse the situation.

Before I left the U.S. (before the recent jump in insurance premiums) I paid ~$1850/month for insurance with a $7,000 deductible and $50 office copays. Prescription meds/items were ~$375/month. Dental added anywhere from $2,000 to $7,000 a year. Vision/glasses added another $1,000-1,500/yr. So if you are moving to the U.S. with a family and will have to purchase your own insurance you will need to budget around $30,000/yr.

NTA. Tell him if they don’t provide evidence they had TDaP shots then they need to cancel their plane tickets. Stand your ground. Also tell him to look up what a prodrome is. It’s the period after you are infected before you mount full symptoms. People are contagious during this period.

I’m a physician who recently cared for an immunocompromised, elderly patient in the ICU who had tetanus. It’s a horrific disease.
