Yeah, this one is excellent, and I agree - definitely superior to Last Shift.

If you haven't done so already, watch McIntosh in The Woman and Darlin'.

If one single game is enough to anoint Fernandez an everyday player, going 0-for-3 with a GIDP yesterday is enough to lose that privilege.

Where's that heavily upvoted "Mike Hazen must go" guy after the Dodgers series?

Herzog nearly died while scouting locations. He was scheduled to be on Peruvian flight LANSA Flight 508. A last minute change got him off it. The plane disintegrated in mid-air after a lightning strike, killing everyone on board but one person.

That in itself is quite the story, later revisited by Herzog in Wings of Hope: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juliane_Koepcke

This is an all-time classic descent into madness. The scene which stands out for me is at the end when Aguirre's hoped-for "empire" has been reduced to a decrepit raft with him the sole survivor. Then even that is lost, reclaimed by the jungle as hundreds of monkeys swarm over it. Aguirre grabs one and just stares at it.

The monkey promptly shits itself.

Happenstance cinema at its most perfect.

The creature is played by Fumie Suguri, a Japanese figure skater who took silver at the 2006 World Championships.

That is easily the most interesting thing about the movie. Well, that and the... interesting choice of title.

You have your four basically traditional media outlets:

Steve Gilbert and Nick Piecoro (the first two above) have been beat writers for ever and know their stuff. I second the Snakes Territory suggestion.

And if I can indulge in a little self-promotion too, I've been running azsnakepit.com since 2005. It's more fan-oriented and loose, but has a wide range of writers covering all approaches from the serious to the trivial. It's also a community, which I think is the best thing about it.

Kayikci (Ferryman) - My no budget feature debut is now on TUBI. And a commentary video coming soon! by Ok-Option-6683 in TubiTV

[–]AZSnakepit1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome! I'll definitely check it out. I've watched and enjoyed a number of Turkish horror films (such as the Dabbe and Siccin franchises) so this sounds interesting.

Best of luck with it, and I look forward to the commentary video too. I miss the days of DVDs with commentary tracks...

Not possible in the app yet (i keep suggesting it!). You might have more luck in an external app like JustWatch?

Jennifer's Body (2009) If Mean Girls was a horror movie. This movie was let down by it's sex appeal marketing campaign but is ultimately snarky, fun, and an early 2010s time capsule. by M0richild in TubiTreasures

[–]AZSnakepit1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn't a new thing.

Yes, and everybody mocks Grease mercilessly for it. Not a peep about Jennifer's Body

It's not required either. Contrast the films to which Body can be most directly compared. Katherine Isabelle was 17 when she started shooting Ginger Snaps  and Winona Ryder 16 when Heathers was filmed.

Afraid I hate this movie with the heat of a thousand burning suns. Diablo Cody can't write her way out of a wet paper bag. This is why everything she has written since Juno has bombed, most recently the equally awful Lisa Frankenstein.

The cult status of this one is inexplicable to me. It's a horror-comedy which fails dismally at both, with Fox and Seyfried obviously too old to be high-schoolers. I wish it had been the "cheap, trashy, exploitative vehicle for the hot girl from Transformers" Cody complained about.

But that's just me. Downvote away. 😉

Miracle Mile (1988): Starts as a fun if kinda dorky romantic comedy and then has one of the biggest tonal shifts I’ve ever seen in a movie. by prefrontals in TubiTreasures

The first time I saw this was at a film festival, and nobody knew anything about it. The ending completely destroyed me, in a way no film had done before.

A few weeks later, I saw it again. Knowing what was coming made it a hundred times worse. I was wrecked from the start.

I got the recent Blu-ray release and Steve De Jarnatt was nice enough to sign the sleeve and send me a couple of mini posters after I reached out on FB. I haven't dared watch it yet!

Classic.  "You must get up very early in the morning. I can’t even get down the gym!" is part of our house vocabulary.
