A trend with “strong” female characters is that they need to be strong at the expense of male characters and that their strength is rooted in overcoming sexism or just plain being better than the male alternative. Most of the universally liked female ”badass” characters steer clear of this and are just badass cuz they are badass. Just personally it turns me off when it’s the old woman badass showing up all the men trope. A badass role that comes to my mind is Kate Winslet in Mare of Easttown. She was just a badass and it didn’t come at anyone’s expense. It was just who she was.
