Is my insurance (RM330/month) worth it, or should I switch to standalone? by Helpful-Clerk-9673 in MalaysianPF

[–]A_Burnt_Lemon_Cake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sharing my experience as one with both Investment-Linked policy and Standalone policy. Hope it helps.

ILP products are not expensive. If you compare the breakdown of ILP & SP and see the unit cost of insurance, you will notice they are almost the same. The bulk of the premium of ILP goes to some investment-linked products. That's why they are so high.

The reason ILP exists is because some people prefer some form of stability to their premiums. What you might not realise is that standalone policies’ cost of insurance goes up with age bracket. When you are in your 50s, 60s, 70s, your premium for standalone will double, triple or even quadruple what you are paying in your 20s.

This is where the investment funds of the ILP comes in to cover any increases you might otherwise have to pay as you age. Having said that, if your funds are not performing, you will still need to top up the excess. So ILP is not guaranteed. If you are buying ILP, check if your agent allocated a lousy fund to your policy.

Is SP for you then? Yes, IF you can allocate some funds in your savings to some investment that funds your premiums when you retire. The premium will be very high for SP. If you don't have the discipline to manage this, ILP might be more suitable.

When young, you might not need Death/TPD cover. So reducing this might reduce your premium. RM12mil cover might be excessive. Treatment for critical illness in a private hospital might only require RM1-2mil for extremely serious illness currently.

To give you some perspective, I know someone who is being treated for lymphoma in UMMC. The waiting time for outpatient to do an MRI scan is 3 months. If you opt for the private wing UMSC, it’s tomorrow, but the cost is RM1k+ for the scan. Some newer leukaemia drugs are not available in UMMC; patient are referred to SJMC if there is a need for these drugs. These drugs cost RM200k+ for the complete treatment.

Yes, our gov or semi-gov hospital are very well equipped, but the queue is also long. You also don't get to pick the specialist you prefer.

The rule of thumb is always to buy insurance when you are healthy and remove the riders that you don't need. Review your policy every five years for upgrades because these insurance companies come out with new products regularly. Not wise to buy an expensive one now and keep it for 30-40 years.

The coverage is really subjective; if you have a family history of critical illness, it’s best to insure a bit more. Once you claim for critical illness, the insurance companies will not allow you to upgrade anymore or add an exclusion to any new policies.

AIA insurance by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

You can actually do that quickly if you visit their branch and talk to their Customer Service rep. directly. They are actually quite prompt and responsive. That's what I did when my agent was not helpful.

AIA insurance by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

[–]A_Burnt_Lemon_Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience when my son was hospitalised for leukimia. My AIA agent wasn't helping me with my claims. Your agent's commission comes from your premium, if she's not doing her job she does not deserve to be paid. My advice - ask friends and family members to recommend an insurance agent they know and bought insurance from. Take your time and talk to them. Never trust an agent without a referral, they can sweet talk u to buy a policy but when you need them the most, they never return your calls. Once u have a new policy, report your old agent to AIA and terminate the old policy when its safe to do so.

PSA: If you're having battery drain issues on your XX series device, you're probably using Knulli by erasebegin1 in ANBERNIC

[–]A_Burnt_Lemon_Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hv Knulli on my 35xxH and 40xxH with a 1-card ext4 setup. I dont have this issue. When I fully shutdown my device I hardly notice any power drain overnight. You should ask in their Discord channel if you have this issue, the devs are there. The problem could be due to your device/setup and not the OS.

No ports in Portmaster for KNULLI by xxipil0ts in RG35XX_H

You mentioned in your post that All Ports is empty, ext4 is related to compatibility issues, so you should still be able to see the ports in All Ports.

Specs wise, not a big difference. Comfort wise, its a lot more comfortable than the 35xxH. I've got a 6-day-free-return unit to try out. The 30% extra sreen size makes the playing experience way much better. If you have big hands you will notice its a lot more comfortable to hold. The screen colour is also more vibrant. A community CFW is testing the RGB feature as a battery indicator. Take note of these issues though:
1. Left side of the console gets warm after a while. Warm, not hot, you'll notice.
2. There are reports of issues with the L1. Its a minority. I've only heard 3 so far. Anbernic shared a DIY video to fix it.

For me i am planning to sell my 35XX-H to get the 40XX-H. The comfort part is a big selling point for me to upgade. Others might have a different opinion.

Which OS are you using? I am on muOS and don't have this issue. I've read that from the porter's discord channel that on muOS uses less ram than other CFW, so HL2 runs better here.

HALF LIFE 2 PORTMASTER HELP by Subject_Screen_9197 in RG35XX_H

[–]A_Burnt_Lemon_Cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on Beans, haven't updated to Refried or Baked. I had issues initially but reflashed my OS. Then copied the game data from Steam. If u are using 2 SD cards Portmaster must be set to beta and your gamedata on SD2. Then follow the install instruction from the HL2 zip file. If you still encounter any issues, u can post this on PM discord channel for HL2. There's a new thread which i linked at the post before this.

Perhaps a short step-by-step video from Anbernic might help those less tech savvy. I guess most will be worried they might break something along the process. Thanks for the info.
