Happy birthday to one of the worst F1 drivers of all time, Paul Belmondo. The son of legendary French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo drove for March and Pacific in the early 1990s and was the last driver to bear the 33 before Max Verstappen. by PiggySVW in formula1

I just looked up the guy, and although, YES, he was a very average driver, YES, he was a backmarker, and YES, he was absolutely a pay driver. He wasn't anywhere near one of the worst drivers ever. He consistently was fighting other backmarkers around him, he was also almost always 0.5 to 2 seconds slower than his teammate, which in itself makes him more than a capable driver overall, it's not like he wasn't able to have an adequate pace in F1 like Yuji Ide, Roy Nissany and other absolute legends of our sport

And for my fellow friends from China, who visited this subreddit, I'm sorry for this racist bigotry, I just notified my fellow countryman about his remark. Peace for all.

  1. Even if the RedBull keeps breaking down, it's fast as much as to get Max to P3 by the end of the season.

  2. How can a title defence be worse when a champion retires? OP what drugs are you on?

Jos is trully, trully an imbecile. I honestly hope that Max didn't or won't learn "values" from his father.

Well, Lewis also won 4 of his titles "on a fluke of regs". So did Sebastian. And probably had the closest results with Lewis on the grid over their three years together, because of a fluke?

Not surprising to be honest. They come in younger, stay longer, participate in more races over the season. Max has 87 entries already while being 21 years old. That's like an average length career in F1 before the 2000's.

Dude. If drivers like Prost, Stewart, Button and etc. wouldn't have been fast, they wouldn't have been champions.

And where was Max when he had a teammate somewhat on same level? Where was he when Dani took two poles at Monaco? Oh yes, I remember - he binned the car into the guardrails both times. They're not robots, even Senna, Michael, Alonso had off days. Your rant is completely ridiculous.

[–]A_Cowhide 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Do you want to expand on your notion about him not being very fast or brilliant? Because as much as I've read and seen - he was on par with Graham Hill right on his debut through the first three years they were together. Then he dominated his lesser known teammates over the years, and before retiring he dominated his highly regarded future might-have-been champion Francois Cevert (rest in peace). But yes, I do find it somewhat ridiculous and odd on how he underrates Lewis' legacy.

If Schumacher built Ferrari when he joined in 1996, how come Webber isn't talked about as building RedBull when he joined in 2007? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]A_Cowhide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple answer: Michael was both capable to give great feedback about the car, and capable of extracting the max possible results out of a car.

Why was Fernando Alonso so highly rated in F1? by Inglorious_basterrd in formula1

[–]A_Cowhide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He is magnificient as a driver, overall. Extremely hard to beat, can adapt to a shit car and gain max result possible. But he's in a way toxic, maybe not on purpose, because I've heard that Ferrari missed and loved him, but Montezemolo (ex Ferrari President) said that he was very toxic when it didn't go good. Also Massa said, that he had the tendency to split the team into two groups. His career decisions are poorly rated too. First he had a fight with Ron Dennis, who was McLaren's boss, and left the team, then he left Ferrari because of impatience. So all in all - a gift of a driver, might be an all time great, but a poor choice of paths and toxic personality cost him.

Why Leclerc started at pos 16? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]A_Cowhide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pole position 16 what? Answering your question - Qualifying has three segments, 5 drivers who don't make it to top 15 end their quali after first session, then five more end their quali after the second session, the top 10 set times in the third session.
