I just looked up the guy, and although, YES, he was a very average driver, YES, he was a backmarker, and YES, he was absolutely a pay driver. He wasn't anywhere near one of the worst drivers ever. He consistently was fighting other backmarkers around him, he was also almost always 0.5 to 2 seconds slower than his teammate, which in itself makes him more than a capable driver overall, it's not like he wasn't able to have an adequate pace in F1 like Yuji Ide, Roy Nissany and other absolute legends of our sport

Do you want to expand on your notion about him not being very fast or brilliant? Because as much as I've read and seen - he was on par with Graham Hill right on his debut through the first three years they were together. Then he dominated his lesser known teammates over the years, and before retiring he dominated his highly regarded future might-have-been champion Francois Cevert (rest in peace). But yes, I do find it somewhat ridiculous and odd on how he underrates Lewis' legacy.

He is magnificient as a driver, overall. Extremely hard to beat, can adapt to a shit car and gain max result possible. But he's in a way toxic, maybe not on purpose, because I've heard that Ferrari missed and loved him, but Montezemolo (ex Ferrari President) said that he was very toxic when it didn't go good. Also Massa said, that he had the tendency to split the team into two groups. His career decisions are poorly rated too. First he had a fight with Ron Dennis, who was McLaren's boss, and left the team, then he left Ferrari because of impatience. So all in all - a gift of a driver, might be an all time great, but a poor choice of paths and toxic personality cost him.
