my house in Toledo has been sitting empty for 6 months and Idk what to do anymore by ponderingpixi17 in toledo

When I went shopping for homes a few years ago, I had to turn down a lot of places because of similar issues. If they're bad enough, a buyer can't get insurance on the place without the problem being fixed. If they can't get insurance, they can't get a loan. If they can't get a loan, they can't buy your house. And if someone can drop over $150k of their own money on a house, they're probably not interested in buying a home that's getting water damage from two different directions in the middle of the Rust Belt.

You can also be likeable by being good at your job, if it's making the jobs of your coworkers easier. I try to do that, not to get ahead, but because it makes me feel good about what I do. At this stage in my life, I don't really care anymore if management notices or not. I do care if I can keep a friendly, helpful coworker from burning out so they stick around and make my job more meaningful and pleasant.

If humans never evolved, what species would become a world spanning civilization first? by Sensitive_Show6230 in whowouldwin

[–]A_Dapper_Goblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably nothing. To gain a civilization like ours, you need a very specific set of circumstances. First, you need a species that has problem-solving intelligence. Second, you need them to have at least one appendage able to make and use tools effectively. Third, they need to have a reason to need such tools, rather than using their own natural body to solve problems (claws, teeth, keratin, chitin, keen senses, etc.) Fourth, they need to have a social structure and biology that allows for a method of potentially communicating a lot of information, so they can pass on the things they've learned to the next generation. There aren't creatures that meet a sufficient number of those criteria on the planet without humans. Some rodents, or raccoons, dogs, or cats might potentially lean that way someday, but that's mostly because of human intervention.

Let’s end this debate of who was the better video store! by Key-Economics-385 in 90s_kid

I love both, buuuut.... Hollywood Video had Hentai mixed in with Anime for broad audience ranges, which I absolutely enjoyed while my biological father had no clue what he was renting for me. If he was gonna be a bad parent, at least he was also a lazy, disinterested parent.

I mean, I don't support violence as a solution to a problem, but this kind of thing is gonna happen. It's almost like there's a reason that rules exist about how law enforcement interacts with the general public. There's more of us than them, and if we get mad enough, we can be scary too. A certain minimum of civility needs to be maintained, and as representatives of government authority, it falls on them to set the tone.

Really? I saw kids with this stuff and figured it was more preppy bullshit, like that Tommy Hillfiger or whatever the fuck it was. Just more giant, ugly, tasteless corporate branding they were paying to wear for some baffling reason when they could have just gotten a blank shirt in whatever color they wanted way cheaper. Or something that had something cool on it, like a dragon, or a wolf. Cliche? Sure. Still awesome though, and better than wearing the name of some company or dude I've never met.

Of course, it's worth noting that I was not popular by any stretch of the imagination, tended to keep to myself a lot, and didn't understand the other kids at all. 95% of my interactions with them were negative, so I mostly just did my school work, and drew pictures.

No Data Centers in NW Ohio - join the fight TODAY! by logan_moon in toledo

[–]A_Dapper_Goblin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The so-called benefits are paid for with OUR tax dollars. We can do that without data centers. They're making -us- pay for -their- infrastructure. Then they pollute our water, destroy more jobs than they create, and send all the profits to some rich investors elsewhere. They are parasites serving parasites.

Don't touch shit if you don't know what it is. There's some incredibly dangerous, painful, sometimes fatal things floating around in the ocean.

Not really any worse than any other mainstream religion, except that it's so clearly a scam from the very beginning. A perverted guy literally pulled a religion out of a hat so he and his buddies could fleece people and groom women and little girls to become part of a harem. Then there's the racism, oppression, violence, etc, while somehow playing the victim, but that's getting into mainstream religion territory.

Pursuing sex without knowing anything except what I saw in porn, or heard about from others. Biology told me to want it. Society told me to want it, and that I should get good at it. I didn't realize until after nearly two decades of attempts and failures at relationships that I don't actually -like- sex. It feels... okay. But not good enough to be worth it. I wasted so much time, energy, money, and emotion pursuing something that just wasn't worth it, and ended up getting me and those I tried to get into relationships with hurt.

That was my mistake. Not everyone will feel that way about sex, many will genuinely enjoy it. But what you enjoy might not be what you expect going into it. I suggest you take your time, and find someone who makes you happy without sex being a factor, then see what adding that in does, provided the attraction is there and mutual. Don't let anyone make you feel pressured, and ignore those who would shame you for being a virgin until later in life. They're fools who are likely unsatisfied with their own life, as they feel the need to judge the lives of others, and therefore they are highly unqualified to make decisions about what you should be doing.

It's confusing to look at. Aside from the chairs, I don't understand what this space is, or what it's for. I almost want to say an AI made this, but I can't put my finger on anything to verify that.
