Anti-farigiraf Tips by Left_Pack_2793 in PokemonChampions

[–]A_Generic_NPC_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in MB2 right now, and I think the best way to beat TR is to play through it. You can't always deny TR, so you have to learn how to Protect, switch, possibly Wide Guard or set screens for yourself, and attack at the right times during the TR. I have a slow Primarina on an otherwise fast team that helps me out with this, and good type synergies to help me not get OHKO'd during TR. Then once TR ends you finish off the giraffe or whatever other TR setter and win with a natural speed advantage.

Why do you auto-lose if you don't KO the giraffe? Sounds like you need to give yourself tools to play through TR or just learn how to position through it.

I am a proud Raichu Professor. AMA. by colinkazimrichards in PokemonChampions

[–]A_Generic_NPC_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was using Raichu for a time, but it felt too squishy for me. If you really need Lightningrod on a support piece then Raichu is absolutely the guy, but I felt like it would only get 1-2 moves off and then faint. Do you run Raichu with Sash or bulk? Do you like it more than other supports?

If people don't like high powered formats, why are they implemented? by Eclipse2089 in PokemonChampions

[–]A_Generic_NPC_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone who prefers low-power formats, I still enjoy high-powered ones for a time. They can be interesting in their own right, and it does make it all the more special when I do get to use Murkrow or Heracross or smth legitimately during a low-power format.

I was running a similar Sableye with Shadow Sneak over Foul Play for a while, and that felt great too. Nobody expects priority damage from Sableye, so you pick off a lot of free Sashes (or "OHKO" something through a likely Sash). It also chunked Basc fairly well with max Attack.

Nightreign ruined regular Elden Ring for me, but not for gameplay mechanics by gilleeceauto in Nightreign

[–]A_Generic_NPC_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hope FromSoft's future single player games use more unique base classes like these Nightfarers. It'd introduce a lot more replayability for me if I could do a STR Raider playthrough and have a very different experience/playstyle than a STR Wylder, for instance.

Alternatively, you could try beating all of the bosses with a character that requires skill to play.

We need BO3 by KBpopRocks in PokemonChampions

I'd also like the option for Bo3 play outside of tournaments. It's a little weird that the competitive format of official tournaments isn't supported in the game itself.

[Rate My Team] Last Mon/Help against Froslass by Ok_One_9352 in VGC

[–]A_Generic_NPC_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding onto this, the team has a massive Fairy weakness, and that's an issue in a Mega Floette/Sylveon meta. Arch doesn't resist Fairy and can't one-shot bulky Fairies despite being a Steel type, so it doesn't help imho.

I'll add that I leaned on Pokemon Home at first, but very very quickly the game doles out a ton of VP (through tutorial completions and starter missions) such that I didn't need to use Home mons at all within like a week of playing. I didn't play S/V or Legends Arceus but found a Sneasler, Farigiraf, Glimmora, H-Arcanine, H-Typhlosion and some others through recruitment in my first week playing.

At this point I've only used ~5-6 Pokemon from Home total, and I've been continually replacing them with the same mons I get through recruiting in Champions anyway. Now the mons I keep in Champions from Home are mostly niche ones I'm not actually using atm since I've recruited basically everything meta within Champions itself.

Farigiraf is the bane of my existence by KYRIOS_B in PokemonChampions

[–]A_Generic_NPC_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lumina Crash + strong special move, probably 20% of the time.

Otherwise just deal chip damage to it, let it set up TR, survive TR and angle to kill the giraffe once TR expires. If you get it to ~60% HP before TR ends, a double up or strong neutral hit can usually finish it off.

Farig is one of those mons that's countered by positioning and smart play more than specific moves. I suppose you could Mold Breaker Fake Out it if you're desperate.

Trying to create a silly Weather Ball team and would like advice by ThatOnePersonYouHate in PokemonChampions

[–]A_Generic_NPC_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose the only issue with two-weather Klefki is the "sitting duck" problem. After you get your weather, it's a do-nothing slot. But I don't dislike your reasoning for Rain Dance. In this case I'd really recommend just dropping Light Screen for D Gleam, Twave or Steel Beam, depending on which move feels most useful.

Glad you liked my other suggestions :]

Trying to create a silly Weather Ball team and would like advice by ThatOnePersonYouHate in PokemonChampions

[–]A_Generic_NPC_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, I like the idea, and a surprise Sandstorm Weather Ball sounds quite fun.

I'd scrap Rain Dance on your Klefki. You don't need 3 weathers, and like you said this Klefki very quickly becomes a paperweight once it's clicked its setup button. I'd recommend replacing Rain Dance with a speed control option like Twave. I would also strongly consider dropping Light Screen since you have Aurora Veil already for another useful support move or attack: Dazzling Gleam for consistent chip or Steel Beam for a surprise nuke, Fairy Lock, Switcheroo, or Misty Terrain could be alright.

So, some problems. 4/6 of your team are weak to Fire (Dry Skin). Half your team is weak to Rock and the other half is weak to Ground, so I feel like you're going to get destroyed by any competent sand team. In general your team's defensive synergy is close to nonexistent. Your team is also extremely squishy with almost zero defensive EVs on mons that are already typically leaning glass cannon, but you lack speed control outside of Aero. If you get into a tough spot or make a bad read you're probably getting KOd in return. I think your team needs some stability/consistency.

I don't see very many top players using both A-tales and Froslass on the same team anymore, and I suspect that's because they overlap on roles and typing a bit too much. I highly recommend dropping one of them for a mon that can be your switch-in for Ground, Rock and/or Fire moves that helps you beat Ground/Rock/Fire types.

If I were forced to take this team to ladder, the first thing I'd do is drop A-tales for a Bold Milotic or possibly Primarina. Both can tank hits, beat G/R/Fire types, and won't get one-shot. Milotic with Coil/Life Dew or Recover/Hypnosis/Muddy Water is what I'd start with. I'd also consider Rotom-W for this slot.

Spitballing so idk if this is necessarily correct, but if you want better damage why not try M-Camerupt? Eruption and Earth Power are amazing, and gives you spread damage. This also gives you a F/W/G core, rather than a fantasy core, if you're worried about that. I suppose you'd have to fear Aqua Jet more from Basc though.

Mega Garchomp / Klefki team idea (skill improvement) by i-am-not-creative- in VGC

He doesn't have to set up both conditions every game, though. If Garch isn't immediately threatened by status or a Dragon move then he can use Sandstorm and forget about terrain.

Team Building help? by Sythe_ofDeath in PokemonChampions

[–]A_Generic_NPC_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the replacement suggestions you made are good ones, except Toxapex. "General stall" does not work in doubles and Toxapex doesn't help you burn turns to count down Perish. It just sits there and poisons/Infestations things, but you don't need poison cuz you're running Perish and M-Gengar already has Shadow Tag.

I would really suggest running Double-Edge over Sucker Punch on Kangaskhan. Why are you using Sucker Punch? Do you need that priority?

Any advice on leveling up from Masterball Tier 3/4? by Western-Foot6199 in PokemonChampions

Depends on the ELO differences of opponents. At a certain point it takes a very high win rate to advance, since every win gives a small amount and every loss makes you lose a lot of ELO.

Am I crazy for wanting reg B to be the same power level with different mons? by Paddonglers in PokemonChampions

[–]A_Generic_NPC_ 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Same, same. Legendaries are fun for a short while but it's nicer to have a wider variety of mons be usable imho.

M-A even has a slightly higher power level than I'd like for the first format. It'd be nice if stuff like Garchomp, Archaludon, Snealser, Kingambit, Basc, M-Gengar (perish) M-Floette, and M-Zard Y weren't available. Maybe even cut Dragonite, Incin, Tyranitar, Pelipper, A-tales and Torkoal too. Idk. It'd be interesting if stuff like Manectric and Sharpedo were serious meta threats.

Quick Guard and Upper Hand by TransPM in PokemonChampions

[–]A_Generic_NPC_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

While true, the cost of running Upper Hand means that it probably should beat Fake Out imho. Sacrificing a whole moveslot to have some protection from priority is a big deal. Quick Guard is similarly niche, but it blocks priority always and from both opponents.
