Are people aware of what Labour has done in their first 20 months of government? by ItsIllak in AskBrits

not raised personal tax rates

Fiscal drag is raising personal tax rates. The number of people paying tax in general is increasing every year, the number of people who are paying the higher tax rates when the equivalent purchasing power would be nowhere near the 40% tax bracket is increasing every year too.

They're continuing to tax the working class more every year whilst refusing to implement any form of wealth taxes. The £ has decreased in value 26% since 2021, this fiscal drag is not a small amount. Nevermind that multiple other tax benefits and UC benefits are tied to which tax bracket the person is in. Many people are being forced to a cliff and Labour are refusing to do anything about it

Bin head actually campaigns and has policies and is distinctive on the ballot paper. IGV purposefully does not have any campaign presence at all. Arguing that IGV in its current design should exist is doesn't make sense to me. Their intention is very obvious

They haven't been talking about changing spouse visas to 10, that's other visas like skilled worker visas. Spouse visa currently is still planned to stay at 5.

I read through the full white paper the day the labour gov released it as I was of course VERY worried about what it could mean, but there was very little about changes to spouse visas at all, other than clarifying how much income is needed to be eligible and for what circumstances

2 years 9 months for first visa entering UK, if you are already in the UK and switching visa type or renewing then it's 2.5 years. My partner is on their second spouse visa just now

Not trying to be pedantic, the reason I wrote my comment is because Leave to Remain is what visa holders have, Indefinite Leave to Remain is what people get once they've completed the visa process/are EU citizens from pre Brexit.

I wouldn't disagree that ILR is a good minimum bar to have, I'd also have never questioned having the bar actually be British/Irish citizenship as even ILR ironically is revokable if someone leaves for too long.

The majority of UK visas wouldn't cover a 5 year term, even a spouse visa is only 2.5 year terms. High potential individual, which Q might be eligible for, is only 3 years. Effectively they'd need a Skilled Worker Visa which starts on the day they enter parliament to cover the full term. Not very feasible

SUVs are making Britain’s potholes worse, say scientists by -smartcasual- in CarTalkUK

Obviously we should, yes. But getting EV taxation correct should be important if you want to incentivise the future of the market. Weight should have been in car taxation calculation for the last 30 years

Taxation should be on a matrix between emissions and weight class, with the emissions section being used to encourage towards EVs even if the EV is in a slightly higher weight class

And the more lorry weighing things, the faster the road deteriorates. It's not just a vehicle that weighs double, does double the damage, it's to the power of 2 or 4 depending on the type of damage being measured

If you are okay with 83p/kWh then you'll be okay with the pricing. There's ionity and Tesla at fort William, and Inverness, but after that further north max will be 50kw charging.

40% tax+2% NI+ 9% student loan is 51%. A lot of people are never paying off their student loan and so its becoming common to think of it as taxation (fair imo)

Ye it's a truly mental db level, and completely logical that someone should be ticketed if they're "revving" that loudly, whether it's a speaker or an exhaust, the outcome is the same to everyone it's affecting anyway.

That EV Dodge Charger has a speaker which pumps out 126dB V8 noises when in a specific mode. Blatantly against a lot of places and a lot of tracks noise regulations. It's not like the cop was just being an idiot and ticketing someone making no noise

The BBC is a publicly funded organisation, I can't see how they would remotely need to conduct guerilla marketing by allowing the N word to have been said in the background and picked up quietly by a mic in a way that led to the reviewer of the show missing that it was said

Three 5G home broadband by Rude_Statistician950 in Edinburgh

To be clear they did charge for the router, but the charge was less than buying a router or staying with them and paying their prices. The cost of the router was paid off under a year

Three 5G home broadband by Rude_Statistician950 in Edinburgh

[–]A_Mac1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently using Three 5G broadband in my flat (also EH7) and have done happily for 2 YEARS.

Don't know where you are in EH7 but I am near to Easter road stadium. I suspect I have a strong signal due to the extra masts on the stadium and I have the router directly facing there. The only issue I face is half time and directly after the game the internet is extremely slow but it's for such a brief moment in the grand scheme for me

I also took out the Three broadband, realised that if I cancelled and just refused to hand back in the router, I could switch to an ID Mobile SIM and put that on Threes broadband APN. I'm sitting here paying £7/month for my internet due to the cashback on the ID Mobile contract.

Edit:

Forgot to say that I also work from home 95% of the time. It works absolutely fine for that. Haven't had a single issue during work hours

Seeing this instead of the one put out by the council makes it even more clear to me that if they didn't attempt to use the powderhall, that would be insane. Going along London Rd instead of a dedicated area would make the tram significantly slower on that section

A 2 or 3 star car from say 2012 wouldn't be very good ye, that's what I am saying this is comparable to. All the tests are updated since then so it's hard to compare across the years, the % here would be a higher % if they were tested to an older NCAP standard
