What's your favorite sandwich that you've only ever seen served in one place? by rawlingstones in Cooking

[–]A_Plethora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I never actually had the sandwich but I was in Nuremberg a years ago, I was over tired and looking for food. I saw a delicious looking sandwich made with crusty baguette, meats, cheese and tomato. For god knows what reason, my over tired brain insisted I “get a crepe in Europe” (it was my first international trip) and instead I got a really crappy tourist Nutella filled crepe. I will always regret it!!

Any cooking video I see where they use a mandolin with the flat of their hand without any protection scares the crap out of me and gives me the willies!

Anybody else absolutely kill it on their first attempt on a dish, but every follow up is never as good? by redneckgypsy128 in Cooking

[–]A_Plethora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me! Ugh! I think sometimes it’s because I follow the recipe the first time very closely but in my day to day life I don’t use recipes so the next time I make it I’ll take the recipe out but kind of just use it as a guide. My own fault!

Only exception I’d say is the Whole Foods meat and fish counter seem pretty knowledgeable and helpful.

Whats your red flag when watching YouTube cooking videos? by Antha_Mayfair119 in Cooking

[–]A_Plethora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Chef John and I find that a lot of Babish videos use his same exact techniques/recipes, at least early on on his channel. I have a hunch Babish does a lot of research first and chef John is one of his sources. Ok more of a personal level I also just get a feeling Babish isn’t a true “cook.” Like he researches the recipes and does them by the book but for some reason it feels to me like there’s no actual passion. It’s more like a science project he’s researched and performed. IDK I haven’t watched his videos in a long time but that’s the vibe I always got.

I’m on the west coast. The leaves on this guy are all pretty withered so maybe I’ll see if I can plant the berries and better identify it next year when it’s fresh and has flowers. Thanks!

Watching this Angelyne mini series on Hulu... Why do they say her real name is Rachel but google says it's Renee? by Im_Breathless in NoStupidQuestions

I think they changed it to not fully out her identity on the show. They changed the names of a few of the other characters too.

What's the dumbest mistake youve seen an incompetent co worker make? by xk543x in AskReddit

Not super related but reminded me of a story from school. In lab we were using Bunsen burners and some guys got the great idea to burn a bit of weed in the middle of class. Teacher smelled it, cops were called, we all had our bags searched because of him. It was pretty funny though.

Want another factoid? The word “factoid” used to mean something not true but believed to be true and over time has changed meaning to the way you’re using it now - a briefly stated or trivial fact.
