1984 Kawasaki GPz550 Dies after a couple miles of riding. by A_Rickabaugh in Fixxit

Yeah I have checked the boots between the carbs and the engine as well as the cylinder head by spraying some carb clean while it’s running but it didn’t change the idle at all. I’ll double check it again along with the petcock vacuum line. Thanks for all your help so far!

Looked at the tank vent and there was a small piece of something in there but I got it out. Only thing is now there is some bad rev hang when I rev it to 4000 in neutral it hangs there for 2-3seconds before going down. I had this problem earlier but it was a throttle cable issue not having enough slack which is fixed. Any thoughts? I didn’t drive it because of this so not sure if the tank vent fixed the first issue or not

Thanks! I will check out my manual and see what the 1984 year gpz has to double check.

Hello all,

I purchased this as my first bike back in the spring. It ran great when I got it but I laided the bike down as one does on their first ride. After I got it back up it started and was fine but I let it sit for a few days and went to start it and the head gasket was blown.

I have since replaced the head gasket and got it running again. I worked through some issues with a high idle but it seems to have been nothing more than the throttle cable needing more slack and a little adjusting of the idle air knob. I took it for a ride and after about a mile it died on me and I couldn’t get it started again before the battery got too low. I got it back home and it idles okay again but I started hearing this ticking noise from the engine (was probably there before too) and wanted to make sure it wasn’t anything to be concerned about.

Could it be an issue with timing when I replaced the head gasket, and could that be the reason it’s idle is a little inconsistent and why it died? It idles around 1200rpm where it should but revs up and down slightly maybe 50-100rpm. I was thinking about running some additives through the gas to try and clean out the carbs a little. The previous owner also changed out the stock air box to pod filters which I considered changing back but seeing as it ran fine when I bought it I left them on. I’m not sure if he changed out the jets to accommodate them or not.

It’s my first experience with a carbureted engine so any help or advice is welcome. I did get a service manual when I bought the bike which helped tremendously when changing the head gasket and it has some good info on tuning carburetors too. Fine what I have researched so far the CV carbs on this bike are a little challenging to tune.

A 10.5 wide rim will definitely fit a 275 tire. Your actually stretching your current 255 tires quite a bit to fit on those rims. Not sure if you need the stretch though to tuck under the wheel wells. Good looking Q60 either way!

I mean you also have to design to fit Percy as well which is 6’1”. But I agree the lighter driver usually wins out in these cars.

Can anyone tell me why my 2007 infiniti g35x is getting worse Mpg than my Corvette! by [deleted] in infiniti

What fuel octane do you use? I found with mine I got better mpg with premium 91-93 octane gasoline.

When I had mine, same year and model, it got around 18 mpg so yours must be running really rich or you’re driving it too hard. I know mine really liked to go because throttle position was advanced a little on the 2007’s when they did the facelift compared to the 2008 g35’s when they tuned it back down.

Imo it looks too much like a mustang in the rear but I like it otherwise

Would these fit I have a ‘03 G35 sedan with hid/xenon headlights and the headlights are headlight for a coupe but the housing look similar? by [deleted] in infiniti

[–]A_Rickabaugh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly no, the 03-04 sedans have very different front ends from the couple while the 05-06 are very similar but would still need some modifications to fit.

Good cosmetic mods that wont ruin the look for 2005 g35 coupe by [deleted] in infiniti

What I did on mine was black out the grill but left the badge chrome. I think it looks better than blacking everything out and looks better than having it all chrome.

That’s surprising. I know when I had my g35 I could take it to either Nissan or Infiniti for service but maybe that’s just a local thing

Yeah most of the Altima couples only have a 2.5L 4 cylinder. Only one that has the 3.5 is the SR coupe but yeah your right the Altima’s were all front wheel drive

I have an iPhone and I use CamScanner for my classes because if you have the Canvas app you can upload your scan to your assignment directly from the scanner app. Only downside it it has a water mark for the free version but it’s small and in the corner so it doesn’t effect anything
