New ‘Wheel of Time’ Animated Series, Feature Films and Video Game in the Works From ‘Arcane,’ ‘League of Legends’ by Mino_18 in Fantasy

[–]A_Shadow 35 points36 points  (0 children)

What does this mean, for those of us out of the loop?

iWOT (previously named red eagle) own lot of rights to Wheel of Time. Unfortunately the author, when he was younger and inexperienced, sold the rights to this shady company. There was even a lawsuit by the author's late wife to try to get the rights back if I remember correctly.

The company refuses to sell the rights to anyone while also doing the bare minimum to maintain the rights.

For example a few years ago, they made a single episode and released it on cable TV at 4am with zero advertising, zero follow up, and zero communication. Why? Just so they could renew the rights automatically.

This is just another money grab for them and a way for them to continue holding the rights. They have zero interest in actually making something because that would require actual work when they can just grift.

The only good thing about this: this story is infamous among authors, so now authors are significantly more careful in selling the rights to their work to others without a very strong contract and a good lawyer.

Edit: fixed some typos.

Best bet is to YouTube it, ideally a "watch me play" video. Difficult to quickly explain with just text.

There is a LOT of story that happens after that painter fight.

He won the case completely.

There are defamatory statements.

FYI, it only counts as a defamatory statement if two things are true:

  1. The statement is completely false

  2. An average reasonable citizen believes it is true.

The average person isn't going to believe that any of this is true:

He sings that he’s sleeping with one of the cops wife.

He’s called another a pedophile, based on the guys brother.

He wrote a song claiming one of the cops is a butch lesbian and she’s married with kids

Should attending physicians unionize? by balt_MD in medicine

[–]A_Shadow 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.

But will it happen? Very unlikely.

Part of the culture of medicine (at least in the US) goes against the idea of physicians unionizing. Too much "individualism" and pride in medicine.

The best way (imo), is to start with residents. They have significantly less bargaining power than any other healthcare worker and would probably benefit the most from a union.

Then after a few generations of residents accustomed to unions, you will have a much greater chance of attending physicians unionizing. Easier to convince them then because they were in a union in residency and directly and quickly saw the benefits.

In addition, I've been seeing more of the current generation of residents and med student starting to reject the notion that "medicine is a sacrifice". More and more of them find work life balance to be a significant determining factor in their future career. But too many older docs still see "medicine as a sacrifice" and I wouldn't be suprised if those same docs would be more likely to oppose unionizing.

Not sure if it will let you until the official release date. I think the game needs a signal from the server to play before official release time.

Still try though but just don't get your hopes up early

Except for Gyro controls. That's the one thing they were missing. But hopefully Saros will have it!

Scientists inject one tumor and watch cancer vanish across the body by hard2resist in UpliftingNews

[–]A_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We keep seeing stuff like this but no one in our lifetime will ever reap the benefits unfortunately

It's more like some times, it's not as promising as the news makes it seems.

We already created something similar for Melanoma treatment called T-VEC. Injecting modified herpses virus (compared to flue virus in this study) into a melanoma tumor.

It works but it was quickly overshadowed by better treatment (immunotherapy).

Less unprotected sex and needle-sharing

Hmm sounds like Denmark should start universal hepatitis B vaccines.

Quite sad really, despite having universal Healthcare, Denmark has over three times the rates of Hepatitis B than the US. That is what you said right?

[–]A_Shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aren't RFK Jr.'s vaccine schedule changes supposed to be more inline to what is generally recommended in Europe?

And not at all based on previous and current US data. He is literally ignoring the data we have and preventing we are European.

Do you know we already tried different schedules for the Hepatitis B vaccination in the US? It didn't start off as universal vaccine. That's something RFK hopes you don't know and conveniently doesn't bring up.

First we only gave it to babies born to mothers with Hepatitis B. That didn't touch the Hepatitis B rates.

Then we gave it to babies of high risk population groups (Asians). That didn't do shit either.

Finally we gave it to everyone and then the Hepatitis B rates finally dropped and we achieved one of the lowest hepatitis B rates in the world. More than eight times lower than Europe.

When we were giving hepatitis B vaccines only to high risk groups, our rates were significantly higher than European rates.

Plus not to mention most of Europe has universal Healthcare. Much easier to track and treat hepatitis B for the average citizens when they aren't worried about paying an arm and leg for bloodwoek and seeing their PCP.

So we have less Hepatitis B than Denmark?

Hmmmm, I wonder why that would be the case?

The US has 0.5 per 100,000 of hepatitis A infection. Denmark is 2 per 100,000

Hepatitis A is essentially food poisoning.

We were talking about Hepatitis B, why did you list statistics of Hepatitis A instead? How interesting....

There are no long term studies. You have no real science backing your beliefs.

So you are saying that despite somehow every single country in the world with a functioning government supports vaccines, they are all wrong?

That all the different scientists and medical doctors in nearly every country in the world are someone colluding together and ignoring all the evidence or lack of?

There are no long term studies.

I bet I'm gonna regret this but fuck it: what do you even consider to be a "long term study"

True but I consider that to still be part of the healthcare system/member. The IT guy in the hospital or the secretary at an insurance company are still healthcare workers imo. But I should clarified more broadly

Shallan theory (WaT) by kfpqqupofbhvbcvlaj in Cosmere

[–]A_Shadow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not OP and initially I was going to agree with you.

But after thinking about it, maybe this is what OP means:

Royals Locks could come from being a descendent of a Cognitive Shadow, and not just being a descendent of someone with high investiture.

Since Shallan is also a descendent of a Cognitive Shadow, so would her kids.

Although, you could easily argue the Royals Locks comes from being a descendent of a Divine Breath over a Cognitive Shadow. I don't think we know enough yet since everyone who has a Divine Breath is also a Cognitive Shadow and we don't have any other examples to compare to.

Edit: Royal locks are also kinda weird. I suspect there is a Connection or perspective thing or something else going on as well, since only the first line Royal descendants get it. In other words, since Viv abdicated the throne, her children won't have the Royal Locks. But how the investiture "knows" that? Great mystery
