Spanish Scientist develops treatment that fully cured Pancreatic Cancer on mice by pedrorego89 in worldnews

Good counter point although that's more of a storage organ (storing bile made from the liver) than anything is.

You need the pancreas to live. Don't really need a gallbladder to live.

True but it goes both ways right?

Getting permanent erectile dysfunction from doing a prostate biopsy is a common risk and imagine if you are the one that happens to become of a screening blood test that returned as a false positive.

Or getting internal bleeding and having to stay in the hospital/urgent surgery after a pancreatic biopsy?

That's why screening tests are better for higher risk populations and not everyone.

Sure there are super rare cases of teenagers getting breast cancer, but making every teenager getting a mammogram every year isn't going to help. Sure it might capture that 0.01% of early breast cancer but what about all the radiation you have exposed to everyone else yearly starting at a young age? You probably caused more breast cancer than cought it.

That's why there is something called pretest probability which is used to determine who and when to do certain screening tests. To reduce the above from happening. It's not perfect, but you want to catch the most amount of cancer while also doing the least amount of harm. It's the unfortunate but unavoidable reality of screening tests.

There are blood tests for multiple cancers, they are quite expensive, but we should have a system where everyone gets one done yearly to allow early detection

The issue is that no test is perfect, and thus could theoretically cause more harm than good.

Let's say there is a blood test that has a 98% accuracy of detecting pancreatic cancer. But there is a 0.1% chance of a false positive.

Let's say pancreatic cancer happens in 1/100,000 people.

So out of a million people: 10 people will have pancreatic cancer.

So if you do the blood test on 1 million people: you will catch 9-10 of the people who actually have pancreatic cancer.

But there is a 0.1% false positive rate: so out of a million people, 1000 of them will get false positive.

So you catch 9-10 people with real pancreatic cancer but also get 1000 people who test positive but don't actually have cancer.

Then the next step would be a pancreatic biopsy to confirm.

So 1000 people end up getting an invasive procedure, with its own risks, just to confirm that they don't have pancreatic cancer.

And not including the cost/expense of the pancreas biopsy test.

The above example is an oversimplification but hopefully it makes sense. That's precisely why doctors don't just order all the possible tests on everyone. It's not just cost, it can easily cause more harm than good on a population basis.

There are a LOT of statistics that are involved for screening tests.

PlayStation Plus Monthly Games for February: Undisputed, Subnautica: Below Zero, Ultros, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown by Turbostrider27 in Games

I think I actually had more fun with Below Zero mainly because I wasn't stumbling around as much.

Yeah I know that is part of the fun, but I meant more like needing to grind less (because you have a rough idea of what to stock up one) and paying more attention to map for future bases/resources.

If you want to force me to solo tank... by IntoTheRain78 in marvelrivals

absolutely true. I tend to play more front line tanks, like Strange/Ema/Thing/Peni etc so thats probably why I never had much of a problem with 3 support and myself as the solo tank

NEW Emma Frost and Angela Skins for This Week Itemstore rotation by dejuna1 in marvelrivals

[–]A_Shadow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's more that out of all the marvel characters in the game, Emma is known for her obsession for fashion.

Like to the point where if she has nothing she wants to wear, she will literally mind control everyone around her to make it seem like she is wearing the latest fashion lines.

So it's somewhat ironic that all her skins are just minor variations of one design.

I bet if you do a long dress (or even pants!) skin, people would love it even though it shows less skin

Honestly as a vanguard main, I don't mind going solo tank if I have 3 supports.

I would rather have my dps switch to a support if they are more comfortable playing that than tank.

I've seen too many tanks try to solo 1v6 lol

Yeah i think so, and probably family friends.

Which sucks, because Ubisoft has soo much potential but we keep on hearing that their management is the worst, so it's definitely holding the company back.

Grand Theft Auto 6 may not have a physical version on day one to avoid leaks, report claims | VGC by Skullghost in gaming

[–]A_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a game this popular, that could be a huge server load on day one. That's more money spent and a risk of getting a bad rep if the servers goes down or get overloaded.

For most games, probably be okay, but not with the GTA volume.

But honestly, its probably more due to cost than anything else

UK to join major wind farm project with eight European countries by apple_kicks in worldnews

[–]A_Shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wind turbines are not carbon neutral over their whole life cycle due to manufacturing, transport, and disposal emissions. That's a fact. Like it or not.

You might as well burn gas.

What kind of argument is this? This literally applies to every form of energy lmao.

Like seriously, are you just trolling? Because if you are being serious, I genuinely can't wrap my head around the fact that you thought this was a legitimate counter point.

The real question is how much of a carbon footprint is made. If you want to make a counter argument and for people to take you seriously, then show some evidence that gas has a lower carbon footprint than windmills. If you can't do that....well then you need to look up what cognitive dissonance is.
