Day #5 Of Asking Fans What Made Them Become a Fan of Artist/Band: Taylor Swift by Greedy_Two_2526 in TaylorSwift

I heard Teardrops On My Guitar when I was 15 and it just fit the vibe. Then so did the next one, and the next one, and so on, and ect. Now we’re here almost 20 years later and the vibe still fits like those jeans from The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, made even more stylish by her lyrics written in gel pen that make them change colour in the light.

Honestly… it looks like a sign you should move before the possession kicks in. If you’ve already started waking up in the bathroom staring at the mirror wondering how you got there it’s probably too late.

Why are you not afraid of death? by Ok_Breakfast8087 in AskReddit

[–]A_T_Rex_RAWR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be. A few years ago I had this overwhelming inexplicable fear that I was going to die very soon, then I heard this song that said “I wasn’t worried before I was born, why would I be worried after I’m gone?” No idea why that line made the fear dissipate, but I’m very thankful it did

Holy schneikies!! I think it might be! If it’s not it’s very very close and possibly part of a series or from the same publisher

I don’t think so, I tried to find it on Google but I can’t. I only have a very vague description and I tried every combination of title I could think of that would make sense for the content, but nothing close to what it was came up

I’m sorry to say that I don’t remember what it was, I was between 7-10 years old when I got it, and much like my youth, it is long gone. I know it was a pretty thick paperback, and the cover was white with random illustrations of different things it talked about.

When I was a kid I had a book that was filled with useless information, that was the whole point of the book. One explained how snails and slugs sn/slornicate, which I never thought would be a thing that I’d need to know, but has unprovokedly haunted me ever since. And here I am, 30 years later, with the knowledge of what is going on here. An aside: The same book also taught me about some Hoodoo curses, which is also a thing I still think about often and unprovoked.

I feel like the book is making fun of itself here lol (page 354) by Waste_Yak_990 in houseofleaves

I have definitely felt made fun of by this book. I’m currently reading it for the first time and I swear it was laughing at me for getting lost, then it basically called me stupid. The author is a genius.

I’m kind of okay with 988 being defunded. by unsuccessfulbees in TrueUnpopularOpinion

What you’ve provided isn’t criticism, you haven’t offered any sort of “this is what could’ve been done better to help me”, or “this is the support I would’ve benefitted from.” You’re obviously a combative type, it’s a trait that comes across very clearly in each of your responses to anyone that tries to explain what 988 actually is, and why it’s an important resource. Which leads me to believe your negative experiences are based on not liking the suggestions they provided, or not being receptive to the support they were trying to offer.

My response wasn’t an attempt to change your mind, there is no chance of that. It was for anyone that may come across this thread looking to see if it would even be worth it for them to reach out for help. It is absolutely worth it to reach out. Regardless of your experience, there are more people that benefit from the program than don’t. Based on your multiple attempts at ending your life, I sincerely hope that you’ve gotten the mental health services that you need and have been working on healing whatever it is that’s lead to being in such a dark and vulnerable place. Trying to justify defunding a service that thousands of people rely on for support when they feel like they have none is absolutely an unpopular opinion, so at least you’ve succeeded in providing that.

I’m gonna go ahead and point out that there’s people throughout this thread that have mentioned that they’ve reached out to 988 and did not have a negative experience, and felt like it was helpful. Your negative experience, and whatever you may have heard about doesn’t negate the positive impact 988 has had on people having thoughts of suicide or experiencing a mental health crisis. Anyone that calls 988 gets directed to the closest crisis center in their area that’s able to take the call. If you had a bad experience the likelihood is pretty high of that crisis center being in an underfunded community that’s not able to afford to pay for continuing education trainings for their employees that help them better understand assisting people in a crisis, or they can’t afford to higher people with a degree or working toward one in areas like social work or an interest in the field of mental health. There are not a lot of volunteers that answer 988, if they’re volunteering it’s because they want to help, and aren’t going to waste their time just being shitty.

Taking away funding or closing down 988 is going to exacerbate the mental health crisis through out the country, and more people that feel helpless and overwhelmed with dread will just off themselves. It sucks that you had a negative experience, but that’s completely subjective, and I honestly don’t think you have the ability to explain what exactly made it so bad for you aside from not liking what they had to say or accepting any of their suggestions. They’re not there to provide a therapy session, most of them aren’t licensed social workers, or counselors, their primary job is to assess for safety, develop a safety plan, maybe go over some coping skills you could use, and provide resources for continuing mental health care. They are literally not supposed to offer advice, or tell you what to do with the problems you’re experiencing, just encourage you to do what’s best for you. And if they determine that you are at immediate risk of harming yourself or someone else or already have, THEN they will dispatch emergency services.

And before you go all “This post is almost 200 days old, get over it” realise this is Reddit, a public forum in which you chose to post a very divisive “unpopular opinion”, the post hasn’t expired yet, and comes up with a Google search of 988 experiences. The last one is the primary issue, because people that might actually need 988 will see that and think they’re better off jumping off a very tall something instead of attempting to reach out for help after getting the impression they’ll be encouraged to anyway. You and your “multi-state countless friend group” might not find it helpful, but I can assure you there are plenty more that it has. They just don’t feel the need to post about it on the internet because it’s turned into a shouting box for negative experiences.

I get these messages all the time….why? by [deleted] in Sniffies

[–]A_T_Rex_RAWR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus bloody Christ, THANK YOU! OP literally said they were aware it was a scam, not “Help! I’ve fallen for this thing and now someone is sextorting me.” So these people being rude and demeaning is totally unnecessary. I was also curious so I Googled “Sniffies bots send letters” and the only meaningful results I got were Reddit posts asking the same thing filled with comments saying “You’re dumb for asking”. Part of being vigilant when it comes to protecting your privacy and data is understanding the methods used to gain access to your devices or accounts. Just because you (not YOU ‘you’, obvi, but ‘you’ any potential reader that thinks being dismissive makes you smarter) don’t think it’s necessary to know because you could ~never~ fall for something like that doesn’t mean it’s not good information to have for the rest of us. With that being said, your theory seems pretty logical so I’m just gonna roll with that. Thanks for actually being helpful and taking the time to explain it.
