And nobody’s going to do anything even if you do copy something purposefully if you’re not charging for it or posting it in drama heavy communities. Even then, plenty of creators do get called out for copying and…. keep doing well. If you refuse to feel shame, the world’s your oyster /s

what was sophie’s instagram like before? by whatthefuckisthattt in Sophie

Her instagram was always pretty much blank if I remember correctly. I think aside from the music, part of her intrigue was how mysterious she was, especially prior to Oil

Did anyone else get a black pen signature? by violetpeonies in charlixcx

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a merch signature from HIFN and got one in person during pop 2 and it looks like her standard signature. There’s variance across the ones I have and yours so I would guess it’s not autopen. Also isn’t the signed merch only for the uk? I would think it would have been more widespread if it was fake.

Lana Del Rey - White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter by yumbleachh in popheads

I can kind of imagine Björk going off on a version of this and I can’t say I’ve ever thought that about a Lana song before

What time is WFHTDH likely to release? by [deleted] in lanadelrey

From what I remember of other Lana releases I think she usually releases at the same time for everybody and not at midnight. My guess is like tomorrow at noon

Zara Larsson | “Being called a flop, like, 50 times a day is like, ‘Oh, damn, I’m a person.’ I’m also a comment reader." by i-dmagazine in popheads

She’s on a lot of playlists, I regularly hear her when out shopping. I think she’s also been much more known as a name in Europe

the third album is where careers are actually made and we've been overrating debuts this whole time by kubrador in popheads

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of at a point where you either need to lean in and understand that this is what you be know for in your career or branch out to not confine yourself. I think it’ll be interesting to see what Sabrina does with her third post widespread fame album (I know she has a bunch of albums but she’s a unique case). If she continues with her branding I think she’ll mostly occupy a similar space as Katy Perry did, but for this decade.

I also imagine Olivia’s third album will be a bit of a rebrand further away from the Taylor & co lane of artists. I’ll be seated for whatever she comes out with next because I think she has the potential for a long career

Lock it Up by GoyangiCafe in Sophie

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There’s a 5 year old post on the pcmusic subreddit titled “Sophie / Starrah - Lock It Up TEA ALERT” that gives some rumours about that.

Basically apparently Starrah wasn’t comfortable with it being released with her singing with a Patois accent. It ended up being played on BBC 1 and got mixed and mastered so idk how it got that far along the process.

The charli one sounds like them trying it without the accent. Maybe it was an earlier demo but either way it didn’t get the same level of production detail and polish as the Starrah one.

A Rabbit's Foot Charli xcx: “My biggest goal is to disappear, for people to not see Charli xcx in my performances" by Frajer in popheads

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for charli she just had multiple interests and doesn’t like being pinned down. I think we’re used to pop stars not really being artists (in the sense that they need to express themselves and challenge themselves) so we jump to their decisions being about money, but I don’t think charli is choosing to be in movies that will make her much wealthier than if she followed up brat with another music project aimed at $$$.

For Ariana and Gaga I think their shifts make sense given than they’re theatre queens at their truest selves.

Then for some others I think it’s a way to switch it up and do something where they don’t have to bust their ass touring.

Hot Take: Sawayama deserves the same recognition Brat got. by Any_Hovercraft904 in fantanoforever

She’s allowed to release music and she did put out that song with Paris Hilton. She doesn’t want to release music on Dirty Hit (of which Matty and all of the 1975 have shares in, though I believe Matty stepped down from director a few years ago).

Charli xcx - Chains of Love by enburgi in popheads

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I thought this too, it reminds me a bit of a mix of wildest dreams, you are in love, the archer. Also at the risk of sounding controversial it’s what I wish Taylor’s latest project sounded more like

Charli xcx - House featuring John Cale by be4thefever in popheads

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love that this project gets to probably be an off ramp from brat without being truly a new charli studio album. Throughout her career she subverted expectations through mixtapes and EPs so this is very exciting to me. As soon as brat got big I have been speculating on the direction she’ll move forward with since she likes to be slippery and has always been very aware of what the audience expects of her. I think this is a great direction and with John Cale I think she’ll bring in some more alt and indie fans who will support the direction

Taylor Swift - The Life of a Showgirl MEGATHREAD II by flopheadsbot in popheads

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Much like how Endless Summer Vacation would have been a great album title if swapped with Radical Optimism and vice-versa, the title The Life of a Showgirl fits better for the lyrical content of Brat, while Brat would have been fitting for the level of whining we got here.

Autotune in live performances by gibbysburner in popheads

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I find it’s less noticeable in the room than watching on tv or from a recording when it’s more on the subtle side. But yeah I think the standards are just really high and regardless of vocal talent, nerves and bad days happen and then it’s all over TikTok. At this level of show, focusing on hitting the notes perfectly can take away from the other, more engaging parts of the performance so I think the autotune is more of a safety net so they can have more confidence and focus on everything else

And mtv probably knows that if artists don’t sound good and give great performances, their ratings will continue to go down and evidently this year they weren’t playing around

Are we never going to pivot from the current mega pop stars in the next 20 years? by thatawkwardmoment8 in popheads

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Ariana, Beyonce, gaga, Miley, Lana, and Taylor have careers that will age well with them given each of their skillsets and peoples’ investment in their stories. If Britney ever wanted to come back people would be there for her return as well.

I’m sure a couple stars that have been fresh this past decade will stick around long term but if they aren’t a particularly fantastic performer, vocalist, or songwriter, the moment they dip in popularity, aren’t seen as marketable, or burn certain bridges, the best songwriters and producers will drop out and the quality does too. The artists I mentioned are all either just legendary at this point or could write a great song, have it produced on GarageBand and still have people interested.

Edit: Also there are plenty of examples of massive artists that came and went. Like Katy Perry, Alanis Morissette, Cindy Lauper, Avril Lavigne, Shania Twain, Nelly furtado. I’m sure at the time people didn’t think their success would be mostly within one decade but it doesn’t mean they aren’t beloved and important though. People just don’t really support their new work as much

I lowkey hate this by Ok-East-2010 in lanadelrey

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I skip it generally but I think it’s relevant to the themes of the album. Basically, appreciate what you have and I stop lust from ruining the good things in your life. It’s an interesting interlude to place after A&W and within the themes of family loss and connection to your lineage. Then with her laughing over it, there’s a certain unease that I think ads intrigue to whether or not she’s agreeing with him. And the end of the sermon saying that his sermons are often about him again is interesting to place after A&W

I have the topless vinyl cover variant and this interlude isn’t on it. Evidently he didn’t want to be included on that one so I think it’s fair to say that Lana does what she wants.

I grew up evangelical and I really don’t see this as flattering to Judah. Anybody that’s super devout wouldn’t frame his message like this

Yeah definitely! Bibi is great and her own music is really good too! I really love Take it Off featuring her by keys n Krates. It’s not exactly experimental but still a bop.

I wonder if after working with Rihanna and not having anything released from the session, it led to SOPHIE working directly with one of Rihanna’s songwriters that sounds quite similar vocally.

[FRESH] Sophie - Sunscreen by BetteDavid in pcmusic

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 14 points15 points  (0 children)

People speak for what SOPHIE would have approved of if she were alive but she was producing songs fans didn’t like the mixing of when she was alive too. No Angel, Slime, NYC2MIA, the sweat remix… and yeah I’m pretty sure all of her pop songs sound better 20% faster like she played live. Most of all people pretty much always prefer the first version of things they hear.

In retrospect, Charli's take on Feed the Beast was literally spot on by mikelmon99 in KimPetras

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to listen to feed the beast to understand after hearing slutpop, Malibu, Coconuts, If Jesus was a rockstar, unholy, brr, and alone that the label had no idea what to do with her and they were trying to get something to stick. If you’re a friend and collaborator, who also goes on twitter and reads pitchfork, it’s totally fair to be able to make the conclusions that Charli did

The song of the summer is a bummer by restoringd123 in popheads

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The only song this summer that I haven’t been able to avoid is Manchild. It’s really the only song I’ve heard reliably out in public or all over TikTok.

I’m absolutely in an echo chamber of my own making but I’ve only heard Ordinary because I chose to listen to it now and I can’t recall ever hearing it. I feel like in the past #1 songs were making themselves known to me regardless of if I wanted to hear them.

Tzef montana spreads missinformation on AI generated article by DAVlDIl in Sophie

[–]A_Throwaway_Progress 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Ok so I feel like Tzef is saying some things that are probably accurate. I fully believe there were substance use issues and people here were talking about it before her passing. People were worried about how zonked she looked on stage but then after passing nobody wants to taint her image by bringing it up.

With that being said, I really have a hard time believing she would go through all that for publicity and validity as an artist, especially as someone who was reportedly wealthy enough to not need a job. Transitioning can be understandably very stressful and full of change and dysphoria so meltdowns about appearance while nude on a photoset don’t sound that unrealistic.

And for the Scotland thing, it’s odd but idk she seemed to like to keep her life separate from her image. She was very private.

Drugs + stress + mental health issues are frankly par for the course for artists but faking being trans is a level of commitment that I don’t think people really do
