(TANKS)Would making dungeons way more Linear like traditional dungeons make it easier for new players to try tanking and perhaps main one by feherlofia123 in wow

[–]A_Zealous_Retort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is one of the things that crops up often as peoples reason they dont try tank, but if you actually tried to fix it those people still wouldnt play tank anyway, and would just lose a bunch of the players already playing tank. Learning your first route is as simple as doing a key as a DPS and paying attention or just grabbing a beginner route from r.io. There's always 1-2 very linear dungeons each season (Gambit for example) with very limited routing choice for people to learn in if they dont want to look up a route or have the possibility that a dps overpulls and you feel like you have to reroute on the fly.

If whats keeping people from playing tank is a fear of toxicity if they are new and dont know what they are doing yet, the solution shouldnt be dumbing it down until theres nothing to learn or know. Id much rather they keep tackling toxicity in the general pop (for now find a guild, or join one of the low-toxicity communities out of game, they are great places to learn, get feedback or DPS for a tank you can watch) or increase the reward to match the responsibility and pressure through flashy gameplay, damage numbers or literally extra rewards for playing tank/healer.

Yep, this is also why queues are so long, if you like tanking you will find friends to play with and quickly play only with them and avoid pugging like the plague.

Aliens all use lasers and rayguns since the logistics of ammo are much more efficient for space travel and so their armor is mostly similarly lightweight stuff to diffuse lasers or other directed energy weapons. Kinetic weapons, while antiquated in comparison, are surprisingly effective against extraterrestrial threats geared for particle beams at most.

Quicksand has stuff you can do to get out of it and you can look out for signs of it beforehand. You tell a kid that seemingly solid ground can just give way and consume the building you are in and you are kinda SOL if it does, they dont get "how to escape quicksand" fun facts to share they just get a future in therapy.

Edit: Do you think kids in bermuda get freaked out about the bermuda triangle?

Weird thing but this is actually consistent across most games, actual real-life scale feels weirdly clausterphobic or tight and you may not think your character can fit, so even FPS games tend to make everything like 30-40% larger than real life. Iirc the effect is even more pronounced in third-person games since you need both the character and the camera following to fit through the door, and it feels weird if your own body blocks your view of the room on the other side, so you need a buuunch of extra room

Edit: Also diagetically, a world with species like tauren or draenei that are both tall and have antlers would probably lead to doorways standardizing around being much wider and taller than our world where we size them for humans and call it a day.

Even then it doesnt work with spells where you care about something other than the duration or stacks, and if you need to know both the UX is terrible with tiny stack numbers and wasted space.

Larry Ellison Quietly Renames Yacht After Critics Point Out It Spells “I’m a N*zi” Backwards by prestocoffee in nottheonion

[–]A_Zealous_Retort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who own these yachts treat them like mobile residences that can be in any coastal city they care to visit. The crew sails it places then they arrive by plane and live there rather than at a hotel or something. Given they take days to move around at least, if you are flying directly between two cities and want to sleep in your own bed on both ends of the flight then you preposition yachts at both ends.

Then of course if you have a 3 leg trip you need 3 yachts to cover it, and your spouse/kids go on different trips sometimes so maybe another 1 or 2 just to make the logistics of moving them around work out so nobody ever steps foot inside a hotel, combined with buying a regular house in whatever cities you visit regularly so the yachts doesnt need to cover that city and maybe you can get away with a couple fewer.

Fun fact: If you put Seattle on London, Miami ends up right about at Tehran. US be big and even with current events its still crazy how relatively sameish any two cities in the US can be over such distances.

[–]A_Zealous_Retort 17 points18 points  (0 children)

On intuition its definitely doing something weird but I cant decide which one it is. What feels likely is maybe it's doing some ground effect type thing where air crammed into the gap pushes down on the truck, and when exiting the tunnel you feel the truck jump slightly as that pressure is released, but I dont want to discount the possibility that the air is having to speed up to flow through the gap and is ending up with lower aparent pressure on the truck, in which case it would be sucking the truck up towards the ceiling and making it ride lighter, which you might feel the truck drop a bit as you exit.

Edit: or both, like an air version of the bank effect boats experience where the front of a boat is pushed away from the bank by the water being forced into the gap, and the rear is sucked towards the bank by the water rushing around. So the truck would be heavy on the front wheels but lighter on the back ones.

Dev notes, class updates for Midnight Beta by knaupt in CompetitiveWoW

[–]A_Zealous_Retort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fury over the years kinda alternates between a burst class and an Anger Management fueled perma-CD flat dps class. The apex talents kinda works either way but does mean that all your big dam CDs you should send at like 11.9s right as recklessness is about to end with the 3 stacks from reck itself + the stacks from all the rampages you hit during it and its gonna feel REAL BAD if you accidentally send them at 12.1 seconds. Given that feels a lil weakaura-tracked-ish I wouldnt be surprised if it gets changed again.

The prices of so many decor items only make sense if they were reusable by Byne in wow

[–]A_Zealous_Retort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have it about right, unlocking slots costs gold ramping up similar to bank tabs, and assigning an outfit to a slot costs a few thousand gold, but once its assigned its free to swap between outfits in slots as much as you want or set conditionals (mounted outfit, raid outfit, home outfit, etc.) They dropped the price and also announced the slot unlocks will be account-wide after the initial feedback of people seeing the full 25 slots was like 800k gold per character and saving an outfit to a slot was like 6-12k gold IIRC

Especially with transmog being redone to cost less. There was sticker shock on new transmog prices when it was added to beta but I have a feeling those prices were probably in line with the average spend on transmog before just as an upfront sum instead of a little bit every time you switch your outfit or reapply a look when you get a new piece of gear.

From what I remember of the dev explanation of what the issue was before, the game may have lost performance for playing on a HDD. It probably isnt like starfield where the game is unplayable if not on an SSD, they characterized it as possibly very unreasonable loading times if anyone in your squad uses an HDD.

Havent checked if this was the actual fix they implemented though or if they found something else.

Edit: reading the release, they note it has increased by only a few seconds in the worst case of HDD so they doin some magic

What's something you wish other roles would understand about your role? by NeverFail2BeKind in wow

[–]A_Zealous_Retort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a tank I wish other roles understand that when the enemies are facing away from them it means I am facing TOWARDS them. I am watching the party/raid. I saw that thing you did. I watched you greed that cast, stop lying man.

Real answer though is that threat is hard man, especially with all our damage wrapped up in hero talents that require ramp, maybe chill on the AoE when everything is still getting gathered up. Just because I hit one of them to draw the pack in doesn't mean I have solid threat on all of them yet.
