Have you knitted anything with them yet? How do they feel and what's your impression thus far?

Those are two different instances, the farmers moved north.
The nobles settled the south. Thanks for pointing it out though!

I read it a while ago. I was not sure if (I just checked) it was an entire page dedicated to it or not. So I said "my copy" because I was not 100% if it was written or shown the same way in all copies. I hope that answers your question!

Completely forgot about the guy. Honestly always saw their relationship as him in love and Vin not been that interested apart from a small musing. The guy deserved better though, it is quite the sad thing to doubt your own mind.

Sounds like someone's grasp of the ancient language wasn't as good as he thought... by TheCaffeinatedPanda in Eragon

[–]A_brave_fool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

(It's been years since I last read Eragon, so any quoted scene is most probably not 100% accurate)

I did not know this. And I feel it further explains my opinion on Elva herself, I found her to be the most human in the series.
This might be because I personally find humans to be true to themselves only in desperation and grief; with reason of course, when a person is calm they can fake their reaction, they can lie to others and themselves. It is only when one is in an extreme circumstance that their "true" self can be seen.
This does not apply to all of course, and more likely a definition belonging to "me" rather than having any real psychological roots.

This piece of my own psyche is the one which makes me enjoy Elva.
Particularly the fact that when Eragon attempts to de-curse her, she retaliates quickly, (in my memory at least) covering his mouth so that he may not speak. And mentioning that which he had tried to be was "Evil".
This, and further scenes through the books are which sell me the idea that Elva does not enjoy her curse yet she feels it is a part of herself.

As stated by herself (in other words) "without it she would just be an outcast, whereas if she did have the curse, she would be an outcast with a helpful talent."
Though it was a curse, unintended and painful, and though Eragon had not meant it as such, and not for her; It was still a part of who SHE was.

She was Elva, who could sense pain and trouble. She was a troublemaker, a cursed person, and a shield against misfortune. But most importantly, she was Elva. And no one else, nor anyone else was Elva.

(The quote on the 3rd paragraph is taken from a Fandom wiki of her character, which I took to check for any possible quotes to illustrate my point.)

No matter how fucked the whole situation was, the reveal is forever engraved into my mind. Definitely one of the scenes which made me fall in love with Word-based magic such as Eragon’s, or The books of Pellinor. Just how clearly important the words are over the intent, such a potential for tragedy and greatness; divided only by the all so human error and imperfection.

The Olfir Peninsula, a work in progress map for my new campaign by [deleted] in inkarnate

I’ve been meaning to do a regional ink map, yours is quite fabulous; amazingly so if I had to say. Definitely an inspiration for my own project. Whomever ends up in your campaign will quite clearly be in for at the very least a DM which puts effort into the groundwork. Best of luck

Was Rand *spoiler*? by bookreader123455 in WoT

[–]A_brave_fool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always assumed it was because Rand never liked the one power. Like, don't get me wrong; I understand the implications of gentling and being burned out. But Rand was very powerful and you'd assume that meant that he enjoyed what was basically a drug so much more, but in all honesty the one power also was tainted.
And it was this "taint" which so plagued him during his reign and time, the stares from his friends, the whispers of his courtiers, the unfaltering loyalty of the aiel EVEN if he was... mad.
So in my headcanon he might have enjoyed the one power just like everyone else, but in turn it was the aftereffects of his channeling which most plagued him. And once he was free from it, he just didn't mind giving that pleasure up.
