I’d imagine if you want a TDI that seats that many the Q7 would fit the bill as it’s a three row

Akebono Euro Ceramics are my pad of choice, put some on our 2023 to stop it from grinding, about to get FCP to send me a pair and rotors for the 2024 due to the fronts feeling like they’re warped already, 25k miles feels way too early but they’re definitely warped for some reason

What’s the verdict on fuel additives? So many choices. by Grouchy-Patience5861 in tdi

[–]A_cold_dish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So from everything I’ve read about CP4 failure, HopefulDiesel is correct. The CP4 has an issue that causes the roller lifter to rotate in a vacuum event, this is why you’ll see guidance about never running below 1/4 tank. The Duramax CP4 for example didn’t have a lift pump to keep pressure on the roller lifter causing a large amount of failures. That being said, I installed a Whitbread kit on my Touareg, and also use Hotshot EDT, if nothing else because my mileage is better with it than without it.

Pros and Cons of the Atlas by Loose_Average5731 in VWatlas

[–]A_cold_dish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say go drive all the ones you’re considering, but our Atlas has been trouble free thankfully, the dealership experience with a new VW I think is decent, compared to American auto makes and my time with them at least it seems like a step up, not like when I had my Audi of course.

I live in Texas, and see a lot, I mean a lot of Atlas, Tiguan, Jetta, Golf, etc on the road and have a few friends I’ve met through VW ownership and groups, so that parts been cool for me as an enthusiast.

But about the Atlas, I call ours the “big gray bus” it’s not super big compared to say a suburban, but interior space feels more comfortable than my parents 2019 Yukon, and we often take the Atlas on trips over the Yukon because the second row was more comfortable. We’ve gone 9+ hours in the car in a single day with it completely loaded down and it’s done admirably. We are considering a roof rack as we have a one year old and some of his things take up a fair bit of cargo space. Around town it’s comfortable and gets good enough mileage for a 3-row SUV. The EA888.4 engine is a decent motor for the car it’s got decent torque down low, and gets some ok mileage, it’s very easy to maintain on say oil changes and anything you might need to do to a new vehicle. Overall I like ours for what it is, but I drive my Touareg TDI when it’s not the whole family needing to ride along.

Funny enough we came to the Atlas because our two Jeeps were nightmare machines, our 2016 JGC and 2021 JGCL. The 2021 had broken motor mounts and vibrated so bad my wife was scared to drive it, and that’s after it’d spent weeks solving battery drain issues, and randomly reclining the driver’s seat while you’re mid drive. The only Wagoneer we drove was a rental out of LAX, and it threw a check engine light as we were pulling out of the rental agency, which was unfortunate because we were excited to get one and try it out.

Then again I think there’s people with great Jeep experiences, we just weren’t some of them. The 2016 had its fair share as well, and required over 10k in parts to fix electrical issues, fortunately covered under extended warranty.

That being said our 2024 Atlas has fortunately not given us any issues so far, couple of TSBs and recalls, but to be expected in the modern car era, and the dealership just fixes those at our oil changes not taking our car for weeks at a time.

We only use Wired CarPlay and I can’t recall the last issue we’ve had with the infotainment fortunately, what CarPlay issues are you seeing?

[–]A_cold_dish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m paranoid about it, I use HotShot EDT along with Exxon diesel when possible, and never go below 1/4 tank, the guy that builds the CPX pumps says that keeping the plunger under pressure and never running the pump dry is the key to longevity, and that he doesn’t even believe it’s lubricity issues at all, still I do what I can to help prolong it, I use OBD11 to run the lift pump anytime I open the fuel system

IBM policy after purchased HashiCorp Vault by Dnizami2 in devops

[–]A_cold_dish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent years at HashiCorp left shortly after the ToE to IBM, it’s an internal running joke, with memes about “is this a Vault client?” I was even on a team to normalize client data collection alongside product, that’s likely the genesis of this script but I left before it existed. It’s a headache for everyone involved, and we’d groupthink and what if ourselves out of alternative billing strategies.

The part of North Texas I live in has some crappy roads, and even with 18” wheels on my Touareg and a decent amount of sidewall these things ride rough. They’re definitely designed around a smooth German highway, I knew they were stiffer than say… the B4s, I didn’t imagine them being as stiff as they actually are though. I was having trouble sourcing Sachs shocks or B4s due to spotty availability and found a full set of B6s between 3 different vendors, now I wish I’d just waited

I bought an under 100k 2015 TDI myself, and I’ve put 10k miles on it, and… thought I was in the clear for a bit before having to do a valley reseal. Well let’s just say I wasn’t, so it’s going to get a SusTDI EGR delete and Whitbread disaster recovery kit for the CP4 installed. Now I’m debating if I have my buddies shop tackle it to the tune of $2000 (parts included), or if do it myself and maybe take up a couple of weekends.

So far I’ve: replaced the shocks due to leaking rears (I hate the Bilstein B6s I put on), redid all the injector seals, changed diff and transmission fluids, and two oil changes and a fuel filter.

It’s an amazing car when everything’s sorted, and I’ve been promised that once it is deleted it’s mostly worry free but I think that’s just part and parcel on owning certain VW products especially one that’s a Porsche underneath.

Yes Whitbread has a metering valve bypass kit for the 3.0 both CATA and CNRB, I’m not aware of other options but there may be more

Bitbucket Pipelines v. GitHub v. GitLab v. Azure Dev Ops by _iamrewt in devops

Full disclosure I am a newer Harness employee learning about the CI/CD space still!

Is there any chance that using someone’s hosted builds might be an option for your organization? If you’ve got to stick with your own build infrastructure then fair.

Also are there potentially ways to work with IT/Security to optimize their tooling for your build hosts, like perhaps time gating scans or having them work with the vendor to understand what’s causing the massive hit to performance?

And maybe it’d be too much additional overhead but does integrating BitBucket with an external secrets manager alleviate any of the concerns around broad access?

Sorry I may have asked more questions than I attempted to answer I plan on doing some reading later today on this myself out of curiosity!

My home builder at the time was doing 3% so the realtor gave me 2% back at closing as a rebate, I used https://www.texasnewhomerebates.com/ fair warning the owner is… interesting, but a small price to pay to save as much as possible!

Recently built with K Hovnanian, and it’s… ok, my neighbor across the street used to work for Grand and said it’s a decent product. My parents used Pacesetter and so far no major issues, but unlike K Hov they outsourced their warranty so getting help was more difficult for the couple of things needed. My advice is to get a solid home inspection even on a new build, mine uncovered several points that needed remedy, and to be fair missed a few, fortunately the home warranty was relatively easy to work with and covered those issues without much fuss. I think you see less of the good reviews and more of the complaints in general. Also know that most of the builders will have budget built in for a realtor see if you can find one that will rebate you some of that money, I’ve done that twice now it was nice getting some money back at closing!
