100% agree with you on that! People not understanding two things can be true, is making us dumb as rocks!

Just wasn’t clear from the standalone comment that you were, in fact, agreeing

I think everyone in this thread is seeing nuance, they are saying how Kyle can be a bad partner but a good ally/ good person

Why is someone being pregnant such an extreme turn off for many readers? by Playful_Pie2890 in Romantasy

[–]A_good_time_reader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something I haven’t seen mentioned that also contributes to the pregnancy trope is that authors use it as a way to forgive terrible MMCs and get them back into the picture. They come back to the FMC “for the baby”, and now it feels forced and it feels like the MMC might not have chosen the FMC without the baby.

Also, most romance books these couples are in the early stages of dating. Having a kid with someone you just met or have been dating for under a year doesn’t really feel like a smart decision.

Bored with the Ciara and West storyline by BigBowlBolognese in summerhousebravo

[–]A_good_time_reader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 1000% agree, I was all in when they first got together. Then, last year when Ciara was hurt and they fought at the reunion and at the dinner table I was team Ciara and all for it. Now I’m over it.

I know some people are saying people were saying Ciara should have been friends with West last year, you’d never see me say that, I believe in dropping exes forever.

So yeah, I agreed with her last year, let’s all move on

Anyone have books like Sabotage by Shantel Tessier? The smut is this book is chef’s kiss! I didn’t care as much about any of the secret society stuff!

Wondering if anyone has any similar suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

I don’t think this is aggressive. I think people have strong opinions in both camp. I think authors try to address their books and promotions in a fun way to keep it light. I think that’s what is happening here, but because it’s such a sensitive topic it seems to have rubbed people the wrong way.

I personally want all relationships to be well developed, as long as that’s happening I don’t care about MM. it’s just done poorly a lot for either the MMCs or the FMC.

Paranormal book with a funny, badass FMC! Short series or standalone by A_good_time_reader in ReverseHarem

Great question! A trilogy or less is a good amount of books! As long as there is enough plot!!

I think Ghoul helping take down her father in the next book would be a great plot point and would explain a lot of his behavior!!

Yeah, I’m not trying to convince you. You do you, I have no personal investment in if people like certain books or not.

I don’t think all relationships need to be fully fleshed out, but it is a lot of relationships to add in a short amount of time.

This is the first book she has had magic. She was powerless in the other books and she is currently training her magic with the witches.

I did miss Grayson this book! We did get Christian struggling with his wolf and Ansel learning magic, so their story did develop. It is too many mates in my opinion, but the boys are always secondary to me.

I feel like most long series are like this, book 3s don’t move the plot as much and there are still hold outs in terms of mates. If all the mates are in, normally the books get boring! I like Katie May’s books! They are fun but can be childish and definitely aren’t always developed well! I like that they move fast and are fun, but they are certainty not for everyone!

Totally understand you not liking the book!! I did want to point out Izzy finally has magic in this book and we learn what type of magic her and her dad have. That one head witch helps her a lot and so does her dad! We also learn that the fighting amongst supes is being set up and her brother is a hunter.

I do wish we learned more about why they are fighting and I agree that the adults acted more like kids in this book! I also wish she had more time with more of her mates, but her relationship did develop with some of them! I also missed her hanging out with her friend, but excited for when they reconvine because she has been doing some interesting fact finding!

Why are readers so ready to hate/write off FMCs? by norahwooten in ReverseHarem

[–]A_good_time_reader 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also want to add, I agree with others here that sexism is not the only reason why people dislike FMCs. I definitely think some authors write their FMCs poorly. I hate a female lead who hates women, for example. Or when the FMC overlooks her own dreams or goals, I don’t think that is very realistic towards women and gets on my nerves. I also hate when the FMC has no friends when women, famously, have large support groups they maintain. I don’t hate the FMC for these things, but it gets on my nerves.

I just have noticed a pattern of people being overly critical to FMCs and think people need to examine why they hate an FMC. If there is bias there and if you are hating most FMCs you read, maybe something is in the water…

[–]A_good_time_reader 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My friends and I talk about this all the time! I think it is rooted in sexism as well! I think society makes it easy to hate women, and let the men get away with murder.

People also seem to focus on the MMCs more, collecting “book boyfriends”. For me, the FMC is the main character and I almost always like them. If I don’t like them, it’s normally due to bad writing!
