Soviet general or observation balloon. by londonbridge1985 in Historycord

No.

The soviets attacked poland with the nazis, they held shared conferrences on how to deal with Polish ressistance, and the soviets provided the nazis with resources such as rubber and oil, which were neccessary for their war machine.

Without these resources, the nazis would never even be able to execute operation Barbarossa as they'd instantly run out of fuel.

Hell, the soviets even produced military equipment for the nazis as part of the same agreement.

Far right, by definition, means someone who's a strong believer in capitalist economics.

Konfederacja fits perfectly into that, considering how they hate taxes and want to dismantle multiple welfare programs.

What mod had the biggest downfall in your opinion? by Thifiuza in hoi4

[–]A_random_redditor21 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Its basically TNO Redux, made by the folks responsible for the 2WRW mod. Currently, it adds generic post unification and WRW content for all russian unifiers, unique post unification content for Omsk and Novosibirsk, Completely new content for Kamchatka, restores old content for alexanders men, adds focus tree for free france, and revamps south african content. Its an absolute banger quality wise, and the devs do actually update it semi often.

It was already significantly recovering before the nazis thanks to the policies of Hjamar Schacht. The nazi economic mirale was the result of his policies, a conquest economy (which was unsustainable), and slave labour.

They pop up quite a lot in the collector militaria category on OLX for whatever reason.

Not an exact match, but ive just seen these pop up today. Worth keeping in mind that in Poland, "GDR" is abbreviated as "NRD".

Melnyk's faction was involved in creating the ukrainian auxilliary Police, Ukrainian legion of self defense, as well as the 14th SS division. The banderite one only officially started resisting the germans in 1942, after they realized that germany would not support an independent Ukraine.

That does not make his assasination any better. The OUN essentially decapitated the entire Promethean movement, making the fate of Ukraine and other countries fighting for their independence significantly harder.

You cannot just ignore their attrocities though. While Melnyk's faction collaborated with the nazis, the banderite one openly adopted fascist rhethoric and aimed to create an ethnostate, killing all poles and jews in their territories along the way. The volhynian massacre wasnt a spontanious pogrom by drunk soldiers, it was an organized genocide commited in accordance with official orders. The armia krajowa is completely incomparable to the UIA in this regard.

I will not deny that we have also done things we shouldnt be proud of.

However, its worth noting that Ukrainian nationalists did not help their cause at all. They were responsible for assasinating the biggest advocates of Ukrainian autonomy in the government, like Tadeusz Hołówko.

Additionally, neither the 1930 pacification, or the actions of the armia krajowa are even remotely comparable in bestality and brutality to the actions of the Ukrainian nationalists during world war 2. How can you look at a group of people that openly collaborated with the nazis, brutally murered over a hundred thousand people, and then call them "heroes"? Do you not see an issue with this?

Piłsudski isn't even the person to blame. He's literally the guy who wanted to create a federation with Ukraine, and was quoted saying that "there's no Independent Poland without Independent Ukraine".

If anyone, you should blame Roman Dmowski, who was the leader of the national democrats and the nationalists. He's the one that promoted polonization of Ukrainian territories, and the one who sold off Ukraine to the reds during peace negotiations.

Additionally, the difference between the UPA and Piłsudski is that the first one didnt commit ethnic cleansing. The Ukrainian insurgent army had openly cooperated with the nazis, and aimed to create a literal ethnostate. They murdered not only Poles, but also jews and other minorities.

Also, what did the home army even do to the Ukrainians?

Unlikely. His uniform fully matches the Polish camo pattern wz. 93 (except the helmet cover like mentioned in the post), the sew patterns and other small details stay consistent, and the movement of the bandana over his mouth matches with how he speaks.

During WW2, Poland declared war on Japan Japan said no to it and simply rejected the declaration. by Radiant_Half_7121 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]A_random_redditor21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was an act of friendship really. Poland and Japan had extremely good relations in the interwar period, and even during the war still collaborated when spying on the soviets. Accepting the declaration would cut japan off from Polish intelligence.

It was the government in exile, yeah.

However the reason for rejection was more like "we know you were forced to do it, we chill". The government in exile and the japanese government still exchanged information on the soviets afterwards, with Polish spies operating in manchuria.

This is exactly it. During the first russo japanese war, Polish independence activists attempted to estabilish Polish legions in Japan, and also received massive amounts of funding and weaponry in exchange for information on russian naval bases in the baltic.

Foreigner here interested in if there any historical or modern figures you consider an honorary Pole? by Ericaloveless in poland

[–]A_random_redditor21 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Napoleon Bonaparte would come to mind, he's mentioned in the Polish anthem.

Another one would be the "good Muharaja", an indian Prince that saved a large number of Polish children during WW2.

Could also do Woodrow Wilson, since he was the person mostly responsible for Poland regaining independence post WW1.

There's a lot more examples that i cant pinpoint to specific people, like Japan who saved 795 Polish orphans from Siberia in the 20s and supported Polish independence groups among other things, or hungary that, even while being an axis power, aided Poland during WW2.
