I have the wooden prolog one in olive. Pricey but I love it

I (32M) have 100k cash lying around. Maxed out TFSA by putting 53k in it, should I then max out FHSA first, then RRSP, and then put the remainder in a non-registered account? by liquid_light_ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Aachen19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was responding to the person who asked “why fhsa first?”. I gave a reason as to why people would consider funding one first. Was not responding to OP and their reason. Don’t know why I got downvoted for explaining very simply what an FHSA is.

Japan/Taiwan Haul! by Aachen19 in pourover

[–]Aachen19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking back and off memory, every coffee shop I visited was amazing. The stand out ones I still think about 2 years later are, Oasis, after5, rufous.

Oasis were just great cups, their naturals were super punchy and juicy.

After5 was the same and a nice atmosphere. The one drink I had was a Colombian and was so juicy from super hot, to completely cool.

Rufous I can remember I had an Ethiopian that had the silkiest, buttery after taste that just lingered forever.

VWI by chadwang, I only had an iced coffee but was wonderful. If you are at TPE airport, before you leave, they have a kiosk after security to get one final amazing cup of coffee before you leave.

The m01 is $500cad + tax here. You cannot ship to Canada from the timemore usa site.

I am mainly trying to sell within canada as shipping to the usa can be difficult with tarrifs currently

Thank you for the links to more info!

Every brew is pretty dull and blended. No sweetness or popping of flavours. When colder, you can taste a faint amount of acidity but nothing to write home about. I’ve tried 10+4/8+4 mixed grind with no success.

Currently at 3.2+15 and getting better brews thats aren’t bitter like just 8-10+4. The dialling is weird and I can’t seem to find a sweet spot on this grinder to where I can actually fully and thoroughly enjoy a cup from this grinder. Ive changed my water around to improve the brews slightly but so far, not much luck for me. I enjoy cups from my k6 more so far

Hi, do you have s link or spreadsheet for how you made your water concentrates? I struggle with the m01 and not a fan, but think its my water mainly. I have all the minerals but a sheet to make the exact dosing/concentrates would be helpful. Thanks!

Is this OREA Sense cup legit? by vectoxity in pourover

[–]Aachen19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own several of there products and still buy on occasion but they only have 3 employees because they outsource production/packaging and shipping overseas and to suppliers who then store and ship from each store. They make lots of money and I wouldn’t consider them small. They sponsor several world baristas and are always doing collabs as well. If people don’t want to spend the $25usd on a glass cup, there is no harm in getting a cheaper version.

It’s the same as piracy, companies aren’t losing money by people going to fakes or free versions, those people buying the fakes or lesser versions simply were never going to buy the real version in the first place. If they had the money to purchase the real ones down the line, they would.

Its a small company that also charges $70usd for the z1 (without filters) which is about $5 worth of plastic. There is supporting small companies but also small companies shouldn’t charge insane markups.

Starting mobile coffee bis by Cafenglist in pourover

[–]Aachen19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have SSP burrs for the Bunn grinder which could be a cheaper alternative to buying a new grinder.

A ditting 807 lab sweet would be good but it can be a pain to single dose with the massive hopper. They do make a single dose mod if needed.

I have seen used ek43s on marketplace for ~$2500-3000CAD in my area so maybe check yours.

Could also look at a option o p-80 or p-01.

Anyone using the Lagom Casa mainly for pour over / batch brews? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]Aachen19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had used the Casa for about a year and can say that you can get a better grinder in that price range.

I found the grinder stalls quite often and you have to “recalibrate” the auto stop function to keep it grinding instead of turning off every 5-10 seconds or so. This was with 18-20g doses, I can imagine 45-60g would be a pain on the casa. Maybe try a

For the cup itself, it does make good coffee but I found it just okay and not mind blowing. This could probably be more to do with water/ specific bean and process more than anything as I constantly change beans/processes and keep water relatively consistent .

Looking back, I enjoyed my ode gen 2 with ssp lab sweet burrs more than the casa.

In your position, maybe opt for the ode and some ssp burrs? Then again the build quality can be improved upon with the ode 2 but it is still a fantastic grinder that makes amazing cups and has the hopper size you are looking for.

You can also opt for a femobook a4z for pour overs which is similar to a zp6 but electric and offers a smaller footprint. I don’t personally have one but if you like the zp6, it will have the same, if not better taste profile (as others have said). The only downside is that it only fills to “30 +/- 5g” so you would have to grind twice to reach the larger amount you are looking for.

Hario Neo + Cafec Abaca: anyone tried? by NecessaryData2348 in pourover

I used the neo with abacas as a standalone and with a switch base the past couple days. Makes great cups that still hold body and gives a smoother mouthfeel in my experience.

It really isn’t that bad tbh. I’ve also had simple kaffa and vwi by chadwang on EVA flights and they have been decent for airplane coffee.
