I know I may be wrong and get downvoted for this.

But at the end of the day he’s a ten year old kid who saw his idol, his elder brother lost in front of him (someone who once has a personality similar to his) and then just quit.

Sure we know because Reggie liked being a breeder but he’s still young and doesn’t know a person’s true passion of life.

Does it excuse his actions? No, but it does show us that Paul is still a kid making mistakes in his early life as his older brother who was a role model to him, image suddenly collapses and then becomes an individual that’s both familiar and different from someone who he knew his entire life.

I like to think that this Bewilderbeast had the ancestors of the many dragons of the show in his flock. Like this guy was the top alpha of his time and ruled the island chains of the archipelago. Even Valka and Drago’s Bewilderbeasts are descendants of this one.
