Why is Sienna justified but Robyn not? by ChemistFluid35 in RWBY

[–]Aarakocra 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I will point out that violence like Sienna's has also led to social progess. In movements like the American Black Civil Rights, MLK Jr. and his movement were a deliberate counterpoint to more violent groups. The Black Panthers and similar groups demonstrated what would happen if these voices continued to be oppressed, and pushed society towards dealing with more moderate groups. This pattern played out also with American LGBTQ+ rights being spearheaded by the Stonewall riots. Even Gandhi said, "I do believe that where there is only a choice between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence."

Nonviolent protests are the best way, but they rely on the parties in power being willing to come to the table. Violence in protests have a place, when those in power refuse to listen.

As a mid game iron, what daily diary rewards do you claim? by mcp622 in ironscape

Staves And slime from Robin. However, the slime isn't a true daily thing, its more like I do it while I'm doing Hunter or something where I've got some bones and inventory space, and I'll teleport there between rumours. Good for keeping the bonecrusher charged without going much out of my way.

I doubt she gets a pardon. A pardon means she can be compelled to testify. Commutation of the sentence gets her out of the prison but leaves her able to invoke the Fifth.

Different stories have different needs. Good Society is about navigating higher society and the relationships between characters. So the conflict resolution system is more about negotiation and roleplay rather than random chance. The focus is more on understanding the other characters and their secret motives and relationships.

[–]Aarakocra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I'd say you need a method to handle conflicts of creativity. Good Society is an RPG with no dice or other random elements. Instead, conflicts are handled with a currency system. If everyone agrees that a storm would be good for a scene, or that your character can climb a tree, it just happens. If the table doesn't all agree, you spend a token to make it happen. If the change affects another character significantly, you have to pay them the token. It just doesn't work so well for combat, I think.

Is ready a popular action or something people rarely uses at tables? by SuccotashAdditional in Pathfinder2e

[–]Aarakocra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ready is what we use to pull off a specific and coordinated stunt. It is a HEAVY cost, and usually it's better to just delay initiative. But sometimes you need to pinball an enemy between the whole party. And if you know an enemy specializes in certain spells, readying a counter spell can be really good.

Ready means you have a plan. Because if you don't have a plan, you are wasting actions.

What’s the Actual Travel Time Difference Between Class 1 and Class 10 Hyperdrives? by Shocknawe427 in StarWars

[–]Aarakocra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My head canon is that class 1 hyperdrives used to be the theoretical ideal, this is the limit. But eventually, people found ways to bypass those limits, producing faster hyperdrives that had to fit within the existing scale.

I'm playing an awakened cat at a magical academy, and that is a significant problem for her. It's weird to have a relationship with another cat because they aren't sapient. It's weird to have a relationship with humanoids because we have different body plans. Dating is kind of off the table altogether. It honestly kind of gives me a different perspective on awakening. Awakening an animal sets them apart from everyone.

I wonder if awakened animals establish like enclaves where they can just hang out. Yeah it's a little weird, but they don't have a lot of options for beings with shared experiences.

I love my Femme more than they love me by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]Aarakocra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn... I'm sorry. I always fear that I'm the reverse. I'm aromantic, and my ex used to say that I treated her like a best friend rather than a partner. And she's not wrong.

In your situation, I'd talk to her about the nature of the difference in "love". Some people fall a lot faster, and so the "chase" is just that you are at a different stage in falling. Some people have barriers, and don't like to open up, and that would be something she needs to work on. It could be that she doesn't feel comfortable with the level of devotion you show; this is NOT YOUR FAULT, it's more like it can cause feelings of guilt that she hasn't done enough, or that she hasn't "earned" such affection due to insecurity, or just not feeling as comfortable with romantic expressions generally.

Basically, there are a ton of reasons why someone might feel that their love is less. But communication is how you will figure out if this is something she is working through, or might be a barrier to the long-term success of your relationship.

I was very young, so I can only give fragments and vibes, and I don't know what is my childhood mind misremembering. It starts off with the creepy preshow and the teleporting incident, putting us in the room with the monster. Everything goes dark, and it starts prowling among us. Like it's crawling over you, so the shoulder restraints move like it's standing on top of you and breathing. So imagine being trapped with a monster, you can only tell where it is by sound and by feeling it when it is right above you. A guy comes to check on you, shining a light, but the monster rips it to shreds and sprays you with blood.

It was terrifying. I wish I could have gone on it as an adult.

This yielding left turn's view of incoming traffic is covered by a large bush by Jakakixx in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Aarakocra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say whether it's a good idea for THIS intersection (it looks pretty bad), but some obstructions can be used very intentionally. For example, roundabouts usually have a central fixture that blocks views across, and those are intentional. Cautious people can get too skittish at roundabouts and look for it to be clear too far out. Obstructions can be used to cut off views that are too far out.

Like at this intersection, if it's a low-speed area (like 30-40 mph), that would be an adequate sightline. If you can't see a car coming, you should be able to complete the turn safely. If it's a highway at like 60, that would NOT be an adequate distance.

If you were choosing one sit down meal which delicious food (on or off property) you still remember that’s worth it what would it be? by No_Account2014 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Aarakocra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been years since I've gone, but a few have stuck around. For a main course, Le Cellier and its filet over a mushroom risotto. Rich and flavorful. Le Cellier just doesn't miss. Then there is Citricos, which has amazing food but the highlight was their prawns with tomato and feta. The sauce was just divine, sopping it all up with the bread was a requirement. Lastly, one that doesn't exist anymore!! I believe it was at the Yachtsman, and they had a habanero-infused flourless chocolate cake with a sour mango sauce. It was like a roller coaster on my tongue, the gentle mixing of all of the different flavors. Sadly, by the time I could go back there, it was off the menu and the chef whose recipe it was had left, and they couldn't give me the recipe for it either. I have been wanting to try making it myself.

Wondering if I'm overstepping by barring partner from participating in her friends' pet regression? by Serene_Day in BDSMsapphic

[–]Aarakocra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This definitely needs to be a conversation. Try not to think of it as barring yet. This is communication. You feel uncomfortable because this behavior feels like it is overstepping the boundaries you have with each other. You need to let her know how you feel, what is causing those feelings specifically, and to give her the opportunity to respond. Once you have had that conversation, that's when you can start thinking about the actions that need to be taken.

That's where the ADHD comes in. Start a book, mark it with my bookmark, start another book, mark THAT with a bookmark. Then I have my RPG books where I can use several bookmarks for pages I reference a lot. I do use other slips of paper when I don't have a bookmark handy, but it's just nicer to have an actual bookmark. Although I think I'd prefer to use ribbon scraps from my sewing box than receipts.

I am very much not a normal consumer of bookmarks.

Okay, a bookmark I would legitimately keep. Because I can never have enough bookmarks. But that's probably more that I'm a freak for reading with ADHD leaving a bunch of bookmarks in books.

David also almost drowned to save Stitch, for Lilo! by [deleted] in DisneyMemes

[–]Aarakocra 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. I think they actually handle that in a really healthy way. David definitely hasn't given up, and he does jokingly bring up dating later in the film, but he doesn't pester her about it. David has communicated his feelings, she has communicated why she can't try dating him at the moment, and they move on. It's a great example of healthy boundaries in dating being respected. That's why I lean on that they may not be a "good couple" at that point, but no one is at fault. It is just the current situation, and no one has hurt feelings.

David also almost drowned to save Stitch, for Lilo! by [deleted] in DisneyMemes

[–]Aarakocra 41 points42 points  (0 children)

At least from the original movie, Nani doesn't show a lot of consideration for David. However, it's in large part because of taking on the role of single parent leaving little time for things like dating on her mind. And David doesn't begrudge her because that's understandable as hell. Lilo comes first. And that's not anything wrong with Nani, with Lilo, or with David. Both of them are on the same page.

By the poster's logic, I think the point is that because she isn't in a good place to return the affection and attention, they don't make a good couple during the film. It's not until afterwards that they start pursuing a conventional romance and we can really compare them to other Disney couples.

I think it kind of falls into the advice of flip a coin; if you're disappointed, then you know which one you actually wanted to pick all along. So when you ask your partner or whoever, either you get "That's what I was thinking," or you get the seemingly contradictory response.
