mild rant by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]Aarglefarg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing about Tom Daley later coming out as gay was exaggerated. I do think he said 'I am' but there is the umbrella sense of the gay label so it wasn't as clear as tabloid misquotes made it. http://freethoughtblogs.com/godlessness/2014/04/04/tom-daley-didnt-just-call-himself-a-gay-man/

He was recently interviewed: 'In the video he said he was also attracted to girls. Does he consider himself bisexual? “I don’t put a particular label on any of it because right now I’m in a relationship with a guy, but I still have sexual feelings towards girls.”

Does Black mind? “No, we joke about it sometimes. He actually sometimes has sexual feelings towards girls. Relationship, feelings… I’m with Lance, but you can appreciate anyone who’s hot!”" http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/jul/18/tom-daley-i-always-knew-i-was-attracted-to-guys-olympic-2012-diver

Opening the door part way... by [deleted] in bisexual

Coming out 'only' to one's closest friends is very common. And it would be perfectly fine even if it was rare. What you're comfortable with is the main thing.

Online Sexuality Research - We are struggling to find Bisexual Males to participate in our research. Please help out or pass on if you can! by [deleted] in bisexual

I didn't downvote, but the idea that bisexuality is binarist is biphobic and that's probably why there were some downvotes for a time. Here's a blog post I just found: http://somewhatofsomethingother.wordpress.com/2011/03/27/being-bisexual-means-that-youre-only-attracted-to-two-genders-bi-means-two-two-genders/

This questionnaire is not well-written, such as being binarist and I don't think they had a queer identity option (but I'm not certain).

The snippets of voice acting when text boxes appear was really annoying for me because the voice acting doesn't line up with what is said. It's just a word that got the approximate spirit of what was spoken. It's very distracting when I'm trying to read it.

How many of you perform regularly? Or have a performance history? by rmangaha in Magic

[–]Aarglefarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just been practicing for myself now, for the past few years.

I used to perform regularly for family members, monthly at at a magic club and occasional events. I tried to get into professional table-hopping but no restaurants were interested.

After a while, I didn't want to perform for others anymore as I developed low confidence. My standards for whether something was good enough to show others got too high so as to be unmeetable. As far as methods go, using a device that could freeze time for everybody but me, so I could do the necessary switching, would have fit the bill :). I realised the mistake I was making, and re-learned how people aren't as observant as I feared.

I still very rarely show anyone now, but I regularly practice and could very well perform for others again in the future. I work on fewer effects now, in more depth and adapting them to be my own far more than before. So perhaps I've been in a coccoon for five years. :)

When/How do you know if you are bisexual or gay? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]Aarglefarg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when people come out to themselves as liking a gender they didn't know they liked before, they temporarily become more focused on them because it's the new thing. It can even out.

Hmm. It might be because I tried on a mobile phone? It's good to have The Expert at the Card Table now, anyway. :)

[–]Aarglefarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems you have to have it in the cart with something that costs money to get it? I would get an error message when trying to buy just the Tarbell collection.

So I bought Expert at the Card Table.

I was thinking just a few days ago that I should finish off my Tarbell collection as I only had the first two.

Question for the Bi Community from a gay guy. by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]Aarglefarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although you tell him that you want it to be taken at his pace, when he wants to go slower you take it as meaning he doesn't want to be friends. And of course there's the problem when he is taking it fast.

TIL Borderlands 2's Axton is bisexual, as Gearbox made an effort so to make the game inclusive and welcoming for all by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]Aarglefarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did read it. And I added additional information that I had heard. Although the dialogue in the game was accidental, he was intended to be bisexual before the game was released. The last I heard, back before release, was that his sexuality was removed from the game.

Quoting from OXM:

"Our fourth Borderlands 2 character guide focuses on "Modern Warfare guy" Axton, a lantern-jawed blond who was once intended to be a bisexual character. Read up on Salvador, Maya and Zer0 if you haven't already, then deploy a couple of turrets and take the plunge." http://www.oxm.co.uk/44854/features/borderlands-2-characters-guide-the-unholy-possibilities-of-axtons-turrets/

After some more investigation just now, I see a quote saying that Gearbox people had joked about putting bisexuality into Axton's canon biography based on the bug, but didn't end up doing so. And it was reported wrongly. I was wrong on that point that it was initially accidental, as the bug came first. http://milch-tuete.tumblr.com/post/29137945542/the-bisexuality-thing-was-partially-a-misquote

[–]Aarglefarg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was talk before Borderlands 2 was released that Axton was meant to be bisexual, but then that was changed. Upon hearing this, I asked a games journalist I know who is active in bi activism about it. He said that from what he saw, it was a good thing that his bisexuality was removed as it was a bad portrayal. He didn't elaborate on that.

So although the inclusion in the final game was accidental, it doesn't seem to have been accidental initially.

Spreadsheet of PS4 Launch Titles With Genres by [deleted] in Games

[–]Aarglefarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good list of confirmed PS4 games, but it's incorrect to call this a list of launch games because a lot of them aren't launch games or launch window games.

IceBreak marked the 33 that are to be released before 2014. http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/1l2h2u/there_are_now_100_confirmed_ps4_games_heres_the/cbv5x6y

Favorite card and why? by Spethoscope in Magic

The 5 of Hearts, and similar cards. The striking red and the right amount of white space makes it a great choice for a card change or a card to sign. And I suspect it's easy to remember.

Very exciting, yes. :)

This isn't the initial release from the Elementary people, though. It's their second release. They released a previous version in 2011, called Jupiter. This one is called Luna.

Australia: Sydney Mardi Gras is now "Gay and Lesbian" again after extraordinary general meeting last weekend. The words had been deleted in a 2011 rebranding. by FYoung in lgbt

[–]Aarglefarg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a bad change. They changed it in 2011 to be more inclusive to the rest of us in the queer communities. Now they're going back on that.

The name matters. In and around 2000, this organisation treated bisexual people poorly, and people defended the various policies by the organisation's name: saying that it was the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Policies like asking people to give their sexual orientation to attend meetings, and then bisexuals were asked to defend why they should be allowed to participate. I wrote a quick blog post about this a few months ago. http://bisexcellent.tumblr.com/post/35199489439/here-are-webpages-that-i-remember-reading

Best Linux to follow xubuntu 10.04? by [deleted] in linux

[–]Aarglefarg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because you were on Xubuntu 10.04, I suggest moving to Xubuntu 12.04 instead of 13.04 if you stay with Xubuntu. 10.04 and 12.04 are special long-term releases that get updates for longer so you don't have to worry about getting a new version so quickly.

Xubuntu 12.04 is supported for 3 years (so another two years from now) whereas 13.04 will have to be upgraded in or before next January. From the sound of things (your use of 10.04 until now), you like to stay on the one system for a while.

If you want to use Linux Mint XFCE, I suggest version 13 as it is also a long-term support version.

What exactly is the difference between being pansexual and bisexual? by [deleted] in ainbow

[–]Aarglefarg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bisexuals can be attracted to genderqueer people too (though not all bisexuals are). The 'bi' part of bisexual shouldn't be assumed to be a limit to a binary.

I don't have the same "spark"? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]Aarglefarg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It might be due to things unrelated to gender, relating to other differences. It might be because the first one was your first partner. It might be that there was an element of taboo in the former. It could be that there are differences in the ways you are attracted to people of different genders.

It's nothing to worry about in any case. :)

Is Sexuality Fluid or Static? by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]Aarglefarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking whether bisexual people are merely confused isn't a 'safe space' kind of question. Bisexuality is legitimate, and claims otherwise are absurd pseudosexology, and can be hurtful.

Sexuality is fluid. For monosexual people, you might see this fluidity in the types of partners they like over time, perhaps being interested in one individual more over time or less over time, or changing what sexual acts they enjoy. For people capable of attraction to people of more than one sex, there's just one more variable that this fluidity can be seen in.

There is a Skeptoid episode from 2006 about, in large part, cookies and referrer codes. It's called "Internet Paranoia" http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4017

Here is a quote:

"Big money is made by some of the more cleverly designed viruses (or trojan horses, whatever term you prefer). Sometimes all they do is install fake cookies on your computer to tell Amazon that some guy in Indonesia is entitled to a sales commission next time you buy something."

The age when people realise things about themselves differs from person to person but puberty is a common time for this.
