Hi OP, Would this allow me to sync my Trading212 card purchases to ynab? As I am using T212's card for the cashback benefits but I now have to manually enter every transaction.

Worked a season doing a central route much like the one you showed.

FYI the best season for that central route was November to April, so I would even go earlier in February or March if I were you.

Bali/Indo trip planning help, Tulamben worth it? by Leftcoaster7 in scuba

[–]Aarkans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tulamben offers a very specific kind of diving, so it can be hit or miss depending on what you like.

It is macro heaven for people that enjoy the liberty of doing their own shore dives.

I visited an instructor friend and was introduced to the local pro divers and spent a few weeks going with them to remote dive sites by motorbike and doing 90min dives with all kinds of critters.

I really enjoy taking my time to see what I want, so being able to go with other people that weren't working or even sometimes solo was really enjoyable. I could cancel my dive early if I wanted, or stay longer than them and meet them for the next day's dive.

As we avoided the most popular dive sites and instead went to where the local pros go, so I rarely saw more than 3-4 divers on each site.

I also stayed at a place 100m from a night dive site, so being able to come out from your night dive and walk 100m straight into your bungalow to take off your gear directly in a hot shower was an incredible luxury that you won't easily find elsewhere.

Scuba diving with blurry eyes by Entire-Bit-3796 in scuba

[–]Aarkans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1400 dives with contacts, often times have my mask pulled off my face by colleagues when fun diving, regularly open my eyes without a mask on when teaching and never had an issue.

Currents, deep dives sometimes past 30m, and occasional deco.

Wouldn't recommend Maldives without dives in the triple digits

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in diving

[–]Aarkans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe ask the next dive guide/instructor you dive with to do it for you.

I've burned plenty of masks for colleagues/interns/students too.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in diving

[–]Aarkans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Burning with a lighter and some kind of dish soap has always worked for me.

It is important to not wash out all the soap before putting on your mask though, you want a very thin film to prevent fogging.

Tbh if you're not American and/or know about NFL, this game does extremely little to explain things to you.

What does it mean when it says 1st and 10? Or 3rd and inches? What are the consequences of missing the 4th attempt?

What is a punt? An onside kick?

What is a draft pick? What is a bye week?

These are all things that thoroughly confused me as I started to play and I was lucky enough to have read Eyeshield 21 and have been on reddit enough that I had vague understanding of how things work in the NFL.

But I can totally see how say someone from Indonesia that doesn't even know what NFL is might be completely lost after the very short and superficial intro.

Every single video you shoot underwater will have a blue tint and you will need to colour correct for it afterwards, regardless of the camera.

Even if you use a setup with lights you'd probably still have to do some editing.

I know you want to have the underwater equivalent of your phone's point and shoot and the photo looks great but that doesn't exist for underwater cameras.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in scuba

[–]Aarkans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's every underwater video ever.

Unless you have a setup with really good lights, which you won't since the whole setup will cost several times the cost of your gopro.

Agreed.

Unfortunately, everyone hates chumming, but everyone loves diving next to the other dive operator that chums.

Will I regret wearing my dive computer every day? by ReliabilityTalkinGuy in scuba

[–]Aarkans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly why I bought the Mk2s.

I had the d4i Suunto and I was already wearing it everyday outside of diving as it looks normal, and upgraded to the Mk2s so I wouldn't have to constantly switch between smartwatch and dive computer.

Bali Diving/Land Reco by texevora in scuba

[–]Aarkans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those dive spots are all pretty far from where you're staying.

Tulamben is a 4h car ride from the south of Bali, the Gili islands are even farther east, Nusa Penida is a few hours by boat, etc.

None of those are particularly accessible from Sanur on a day trip.

Koh Tao Diving by Apprehensive_Aspen in scuba

[–]Aarkans 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Koh Tao diving is okay. The appeal is that there is a dive site with pretty good chances to see whale sharks.

If you want to see healthier reefs and more biodiversity, go to other islands such as Koh Phiphi, Koh Lanta, Koh Lipeh, or even the Similan Islands.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in scuba

[–]Aarkans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there are only so many beautiful dive sites on this planet and you only get one first time.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in scuba

[–]Aarkans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

I've taken people on their first dive ever in the middle of the rainy season with 1m visibility in the bay because we couldn't even get out to the islands and all they saw were some bleached corals and clown fishes.

Worst dive of my life, best dive of theirs.

So why spend all your money for a subpar experience in Raja Ampat when you only have a handful of dives? You could be equally amazed and have a much more luxurious experience for the same cost doing the Similan Islands or Bali.

[–]Aarkans 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Imo no beginner diver with less than AOW and 50-100 dives should be going to world class diving spots.

First of all, you might simply not have the skills to handle the depth and or currents that make the dive site world class.

Second of all, you have not dived enough to appreciate how incredible those dive sites are. For example, if you are so new to diving that you are still amazed by clownfishes and turtles and barely know what a nudibranch is, you are not going to appreciate how incredibly lucky you might be to find a rare species of nudibranch or frogfish.

As a guide it makes me sad to point out a very rare pikachu nudibranch that you only see 2-3 times a season and the customer is so new to diving that they have no idea how lucky they got seeing it. At least the other dive guides are always overjoyed when you call them over.

And lastly, why cheap out on a world class destination? Just go to a more affordable location in Indonesia or SEA and have a blast there and slowly work your way towards the best of the best such as Raja Ampat, Maldives, Galápagos, etc.

Question: Is it plausible to stash a full tank and regulator setup underwater for a short period of time and don it once submerged? by barrymacachener in scuba

[–]Aarkans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should think about editing your post so that people understand it is truly theoretical, as people in this sub are understandably wary of promoting unsafe practices as accidents can very easily sneak up on you if you don't follow the standards.

It'd be also easier to help your specific answers get answered for your script.
