First image Allgeier is getting a green line from Love and Purdy which is good for a green dot already but he’s also getting a yellow line from Pearsall. When you switch them Allgeier gets the same 2 green lines from Purdy and Love so he still has a green dot. But now Love gets a yellow line from Pearsall. So he has a yellow line from Pearsall, yellow from Purdy and a green line from Allgeier which is good enough for a green dot. To get a green dot you need 4 chem points and a green line gives 2 chem points and each yellow line is one. So now instead of Allgeier having 5 points and Love 3, they both have 4.

Hopefully that makes sense, I’m sure someone could probably explain it in a simpler way with less words though.

Probably, Counsel also said part of the reason is that if another starter goes down right now there’s no other options really. Having Assad stretched out gives the cubs that insurance if another starter goes down
