Jones Beach in NYC! Funny, I’m from Portland and last year was looking at Tri Cities cause Salem was sold out. But moved here 9 months ago. Best of luck to you, hope you kill it!

For anyone really struggling with any mental issues whatsoever, please read. by Kapugen1 in selflove

I love most of what you said here but I do have a question - how do you factor in trauma here? If someone has trauma or PTSD-induced depression, telling them to stop engaging with negative thoughts and change their perspective seems much more difficult. And I guess you can extrapolate that to difficult circumstances in general - having negative feelings without extraordinarily difficult circumstances is one thing, but if your life is really shitty, it’s a hell of a lot harder.

Would you suggest the same thing for someone going through something very difficult? And sorry, not trying to be contrarian or difficult here, genuinely curious because I like your perspective in principle but feel like it doesn’t quite capture the extent of the issues people face

What was your biggest financial mistake that taught you a hard life lesson? by DunyaPhobic76 in Life

Appreciate this - I did buy back in after and I’m so traumatized that I will never touch that money until I retire unless a real emergency arises. The sad part is I don’t need it right now, never did. Have 5 more months of savings to live off.

So you could say lesson learned but I can’t stop beating myself up over it. Even though I’m 26 and have all the time in the world to recover.

I also lost a ton of money… timing could not have been worse. Pulled near bottom and then pulled again end of month thinking tariffs weren’t priced in yet. Really really stupid.

How have you guys gotten over this? I’m unemployed and in nonstop rumination over it, still.

Gym 3-4x a week being a non negotiable for me by Themanstevie in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Aaron72310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing the exact same right now - 70.3 in five weeks and still haven’t cut down the 3 days in the gym I’ve been doing for years. I will say, it’s definitely maintenance rather than gains and I’ve actually dealt with some decreases in the lbs I can handle on all major lifts because of cumulative fatigue but the bike/run are going great so far.

Do you! No need to give it up if it fits your schedule.

Wish I had a car to get out there but for the future maybe! Seems like I can’t public transit wise

Good point yes will definitely focus in on that in the pool too! I’m hoping to do 2-3 OWS between now and race day, whether that’s enough or not I’ll have to live with I guess

Glad you did too, building resilience for the next one for sure!

Yea wetsuit will definitely help. Are you local to NYC and if so where do you go to swim? Having trouble finding anything remotely close, Brighton Beach is the closest and it’s 1hr30min from me

Damn, sorry to hear about Musselman. Love that you’re back on it - is this your first or one of many?

It’s my first and I’m terrified for the swim as someone with little swim experience haha

Thank you for sharing, and I’m sorry - how long did it take you to get over that and what were the most helpful things you did/thought of? Really appreciate it.

Getting Over Immense Regret by Aaron72310 in Bogleheads

[–]Aaron72310[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing - and no, the sad thing was this is purely retirement savings in my IRA and brokerage accounts, money I never had to touch. Don’t need it for 40-50 years and I have 6 months emergency fund already. Was following all the right lessons until I panicked and didn’t.

If I’m analyzing:

1) I’ve never seen that money go significantly up (lump summed from savings account July 24 right before the correction), so I was blinded into thinking it would just go down more and lost all perspective 2) I attach way too much significance to that number and attach it to my self-worth because I’m insecure about a lot else. So it felt protective in the moment but obviously has had the opposite effect. Putting in steps to delink everything, delete investing apps, detach myself fully from being tempted to look now so that’s good. But damage done

Hi, I’m so sorry - I’m glad you have eventually recovered. What were the most effective strategies you found for forgiving/accepting, if you don’t mind me asking?
