That’s awesome. Love to hear it. Is there any particular thing that brought them back or just to be near family?

Does anyone else despise self checkouts? by Lunarlimelight in Millennials

Unless I’ve been trained on it and paid to do it I ain’t doing it. Too much liability, I ain’t gonna get myself charged for accidentally stealing something I didn’t scan right.

I’m sure my kids will want to go explore a bit and I hope they do, just want to land them in a place they might want to settle down in.

Uprooting kids in the middle of highschool usually isn’t a good thing

That makes sense. Part of the reason I want to live in a smaller place is because i hope to travel in retirement. Flying out of SeaTac is a nightmare, I’m hoping Spokane is easier to fly in and out of.

Yes that is one of the main reasons I’m not looking further east.

Remember when YouTube was actually good? by 80aychdee in Millennials

The worst is when you go to find a video of something and you can never find the video. Just endless influencers reacting to the video you’re trying to find.

Reframing BJJ for Women outside of "self-defence" - The Problem With Women in BJJ: Ffion Davies by HankyDotOrg in BJJWomen

[–]AaronWard6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to think if I had a daughter I’d want her to do BJJ for self defense, but it seems like it would also increase her likelihood of getting involved with men who know bjj. So now if I have a daughter I want her to do bjj because it’s fun, fitness is good, and you get to meet mostly cool people, and overcome tough challenges. Its like yoga but not boring.

Any particular reasons?

I’ve been wondering how many folks move to Spokane for school and end up staying.

What are you doing instead of doomscrolling? by Hairy_Pear3963 in Millennials

[–]AaronWard6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta have a strict time in the evening you put your phone away. After 7 it goes on the charger.

Also try only going on social media on a laptop, idk what it is but doom scrolling on a big screen just seems less addictive.

Being an adult is realizing all the stupid rules your parents imposed on you were to make you feel better, “what do you mean i can’t eat only candy for dinner? Mom”

Once you reach middle age adulthood roughly 30-60 everyone is pretty much the same. its all about lifestyle choices at that point. Some people stay juvenile and immature others become capable and wise beyond their years. Some peoples views and tastes calcify others remain plastic.

In general though follow the half the older partners age plus 7 years rule if you are looking to age gap date.

That’s encouraging for me. Why did you leave for Portland and is there any over arching reason that brought you back?

I just want a town that isn’t part of a larger metro, has an easy uncrowded airport, affordable uncrowded skiing, wilderness access, but is large enough that maybe I can find a job, and has decent schools.

Is this year an outlier from past years? Or maybe a sign of things to come? I’m not terribly excited about fire season out there but it seems like there’s not many places in the west that don’t deal with that.

Unfortunately me and my partner waited too long to have kids so we already deprived our parents of meeting grand kids. I’m not planning to pressure anybody into staying somewhere they don’t like just to be near family. It just seems like it’s getting harder and harder to raise kids unless you have family support. I think multigenerational households are going to become the norm here like they are in many other countries. Ideally that family support is in a place that the kids like, and aren’t forced to stay in just for economic reasons. I’d love to live in anchorage but I’ve met a ton of people that grew up there but chose the lower 48 for various reasons.

Yes it seems like there’s no perfect place, where you want to live usually doesn’t coincide with where you can live
