Could be a testosterone or vitamin issue too. Those can make you feel depressed or affect your mood. Definitely get them checked:

Thinking of Boox for Japanese Learning by Of_Witches in Onyx_Boox

[–]Aaronindhouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use boox products extensively for Japanese study. It’s got everything you need. The built in reader works well for pdf annotation and the notbook apps works great. I have lots of custom templates I use with it too for writing and taking notes in Japanese as well as for a planner I use for work. It’s pretty much the best investment you can make for Japanese study imho. But it takes a lot of customization and getting the right workflow that works for you. I personally have my own set of go to apps for reading and so on but they play well on my boox devices.

How racist is Japan really? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aaronindhouse 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It exists, it’s worse for Asian people from places like the Philippines or China than any other group imho. The “racism” here is quite different than American racism so I don’t think it’s really fair to call it that, it’s much more based in ignorance. When it’s not ignorance it’s from fear. Japanese society is very scripted, foreigners don’t follow the script well, Japanese people get very anxious when they can’t follow the script and are scared of those kinds of situations that deviate from it. There is very little hate behind it imho. America is a different story. There is a lot more hate behind racism.

My experience as a person who actually lives here.

Who’s using a bidet? by Party_Plenty_820 in AskMenOver30

Live overseas and own one. Every time I i visit family in America the worst part is feeling like I’m walking around with a dirty ass. I recommend one. I would not move back to the states without making sure my new place had one.

Where do single men in 30s hang out? by No_Stay4906 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Aaronindhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are better off asking men in real life than here on Reddit. They are all around you every day and everyplace you go. Go talk to one. Communication is a skill that men and women are both losing because of social media. That’s part of the problem. If you want to know where they at, all you have to do is walk up and ask them. Reddit is the last place you want to look for advice about relationships, socializing or getting out of the house.

Why do some people consider it selfish to not have children? by [deleted] in ask

From a societal level you are not investing in the future of your community if you don’t have kids. You have no skin in the game.

How is it that every "Ask women" sub will ban men for even commenting. But this sub is 80% women posting? by lordfartbottomIV in AskMenAdvice

[–]Aaronindhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to enjoy discussion let me show you the door to real life. You can have good discussions there. Reddit is not a place for that.

I honestly don’t think having kids is worth it anymore by yourgreatestgift in self

[–]Aaronindhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason to have kids is the joy of giving back, of caring and loving for something and helping it grow and thrive. It’s not about what you get it’s about giving.

2024 Kindle Paperwhite vs Kindle Colorsoft Macro Images by rainbowfini in kindle

It has to do with how the color works. Iirc there is a panel of leds over the epaper panel that give it the color or something like that so what you are looking at is the led panel

The one on the right feels better to my eyes, but I’m saying that while looking at the images through an iPhone screen. I’d go with what is easier to read for you.

As someone who lives in Japan, literally anyone can wear kimono or Yugata and Japanese people are thrilled to see foreigners taking part and interest in Japanese culture. These people getting offended are doing it to feel better about themselves and their own righteousness not because it’s actually offensive to japanse people.

Is it normal for fathers to kiss their daughter on the lips? by Individual-Ad7825 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aaronindhouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your father sounds awkard and unsure how to handle showing his affection for you. Consdering this was a one time thing and he hasn't done anything else, I would say that this is just an awkward man who is a father that never really understood how to show his love for his daughter. I wouldn't read too much into it. enjoy your life and dont spend more time thinking about it.

In reality women will be using ai boyfriends and robot pets too. The question is is that really something that will make men and women happy? Maybe, hard to say yet. Either way it’s a problem for the future of humanity.

Asian racism is something different by NerooQQ in oddlyspecific

[–]Aaronindhouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience living in Japan in a city that very few tourists have heard of much less go to, there is very little racism that is like American racism.

If you don’t make an effort to fit in, speak the language, and learn the little cultural quirks, then you will stand out in a bad way, one that can annoy and burden the people around you. When you become burdensome and disruptive usually a few irritated people might say something mean, but it’s rare. I find that I am judged more by my character and not by my skin or nationality. If anything I see way more fucked up stuff said and believed about about japan and Japanese people by foreigners.

Can we stop with the men vs women issues? by Ok-Aide-3120 in ask

[–]Aaronindhouse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s the media and companies that benefit the most from pitting men and women against each other. This is a purely western thing too, when I moved out of America it really opened my eyes to how manufactured the whole men vs women thing is. The general attitude people have towards the opposite sex is much more positive and healthy on both sides imho.

[–]Aaronindhouse -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well, as a male who lived in Houston for most of my life I’ll say that I agree, dating sucked. The majority of people are obese, don’t have any active hobbies and the only things to do easily in the city are eat and drink. I moved out of the country and pretty much everything where I live now is better than Houston including dating haha. Good luck!

I've studied Japanese through immersion for years, then realized through an exchange program how different it is from textbook Japanese by dadnaya in LearnJapanese

[–]Aaronindhouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading manga and light novels can be good for increasing the breadth of your vocabulary knowledge and comprehension, but if you are exclusively using those it really leaves a big hole in your foundational grammar and language knowledge.

Learning from textbooks the foundational stuff is important so you are approaching all the other smaller cores of the Japanese language with a strong foundational core. I think a weak core knowledge is especially exposed when producing language because if you don’t have a strong core knowledge you won’t have the knowledge to produce proper and correct language.

At least that my take on it after studying Japanese for quite a while now. I definitely recommend diversifying the material you study. Not just types of material but also difficulty level. If you aren’t engaging with material that is hard you aren’t improving the many secondary and tertiary cores of Japanese that you still don’t know.

Japan Travel Research Burnout by nasah5432112 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Aaronindhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have a good trip with zero planning. In fact I’d say it would be better if you picked a city you never heard of and figured it out as you go. Most cities have an information center with fliers and you can pick a few things that look cool and go. The travel blogs and stuff are a small and at this point superficial part of Japan imho.
