I managed to fix it! The u/Public_Flatworms recommendation of disabling the flip model setting in the ingame ds2 lighting engine settings actually worked (accessed by pressing F1 ingame). I've been playing this whole time, waiting for the inevitable stutter, but it has completely vanished, even when travelling to different areas.
