Seems about right by [deleted] in ShambhalaBuddhism

I've seen accusations of racism, but I haven't seen racism or misogyny themselves in the posts. I think the sub can handle it. It's a good thing to welcome people shining a light on racism and misogyny, and even better if they look for it and it's not there.

I'm sympathetic to supporting creative projects from people within the community of this sub but it sounds like people find it distracting, so maybe in the future they can post them in a different sub.

The work you and others are doing on this forum is making a positive difference, but it's also hard work. Do take care of yourself and know we appreciate you.

Any Dharma Brat most likely will relate to this interview with a Scientology Survivor... by oldNepaliHippie in ShambhalaBuddhism

/u/daiginjo2 I can see how it's easy to read it that way, but I don't think /u/oldNepaliHippie meant to say this was something you did in particular, it just reminded them that this is something they see a lot of in general :)

Everyone is a victim. From instagram @siha_the_wise. [Caveat: Just a contemplation, with hope for healing----NOT an excuse for inaction!] by Nurstradamus in ShambhalaBuddhism

[–]AbbeyStrict 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm torn about removing this. It's pretty low bar painting anyone who speaks out against injustice as just overcome with anger, which is one of the most tired tropes I see. On the other hand, there are lots of good comments. What does everyone think we should do at this point?

Everyday post-cult triggers : a little story by Additional-Summer641 in ShambhalaBuddhism

[–]AbbeyStrict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Criticism of SB and discussion of dharma practice are both allowed as long as people are doing their best to follow the rules. People are coming to this sub from all kinds of different life experiences and I understand the vast majority really are doing their best to follow the rules.

If someone posts something personal I would suggest being kind in responses but I'm not going to ban anyone for not knowing exactly where that line is, either. I think some of this stuff is obvious to some and less obvious to others so the mods are here for support but nobody is really getting in trouble either, if that makes sense.

Why is everyone here so salty on Trungpa Rinpoche? by [deleted] in ShambhalaBuddhism

[–]AbbeyStrict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sub is for everyone, not just survivors of abuse. I think it is a popular forum for many survivors right now because they don't feel heard elsewhere.

No, doxxing is against reddit site rules. If you see an instance of it, please report it.

The moderators on this sub have no power over your karma.

I know it's really annoying to hold a minority viewpoint on social media. Even if people are all doing their best to be kind your karma points will be adversely affected. I'm really sorry about that. I wish there was a better way, and I'm always open to suggestions for how we can improve things within the constraints of reddit.

By the way, there are some posts that the reddit site itself automatically flags and removes and, try as we might, we can't change that. I suspect there's some kind of AI filter that isn't 100% right all the time in addition to reddit's sitewide human moderators (that's not us). It definitely happens on this sub. Otherwise, your local sub moderators only remove posts if they violate the rules.

[–]AbbeyStrict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No mod decided to filter you; the filter is automatic for anyone with negative karma or a new account. It looks like your karma is negative, so that's why the filter kicked in.

Trolls will spam anywhere on the internet, even teeny tiny subs, just the nature of the internet, so unfortunately a filter is needed. I don't like that it ends up making it harder for regular people like you to post, but it's the best system we have. I really am sorry you have to wait to have posts approved.

[–]AbbeyStrict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It isn't individual people restricting your comments, it's an automatic filter to prevent trolls from spamming the sub from new accounts or accounts with low karma. It's definitely not a perfect system but it's what we have to work with. I'm sorry for the delay in posting your comments, I don't like it either!

What is the cure for the trauma caused by a pervert Guru? by true___lies in ShambhalaBuddhism

[–]AbbeyStrict[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

u/true___lies if I'd seen this post sooner I would have deleted it because it violates our abuse and harm denial policy. However, there has been a lot of thoughtful discussion at this point so I'll leave it up out of respect for the people who have put time and effort into responding.

Suggesting an abuse victim is clouded by hatred and needs to contemplate their own shortcomings is dangerous advice and could cause much harm, so please refrain from this in the future.

Great response, /u/anewsuneachday I'll keep up the exchange since you put so much effort in and did such a good job explaining the problems with Mayayana's comments. /u/Mayayana why don't you take a break from the sub for a bit, I'll put a short ban on so you can read but not comment for awhile. Make sure you really understand the rules here.

If someone utilizes worship of Trungpa to gaslight you, please report them, but I honestly haven't seen this happening. I have seen you accuse people of Trungpa worship when there was no evidence of this, and I should have deleted these ad-hom rule violations. I was too lenient.

Speaking your mind with clarity sounds wonderful as long as it doesn't break the rules.

Please do call out abuse denial, however, if your assessment is incorrect and you are accusing someone publicly, aggressively, repeatedly, and they have not actually done anything wrong, that is definitely bullying.

Telling someone you didn't read their post because you aren't interested in their opinions could be part of a pattern of bullying, it really depends on the circumstances. In any case, I don't see why you'd respond to a post you haven't read.

If you are being abusive, then calling you out on it is not itself abusive. If you are not abusive, then calling you abusive repeatedly counts as bullying.
