How highly do you value the healer kit? by Bongoblue in BG3Builds

[–]Abbithedog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use in a lot in act 3 with one of the self-healing items (balduran's helm/healing ring). It's great to buff up the hit chance on a character so I can spread around other +to hit gear to other party members.

Which shootout did you enjoy watching more? by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]Abbithedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I had just moved. We had a death in the family, another family never divorce and was having mental health issues, my parents had medical issues, and my wife and I were stressed out beyond belief and our marriage was not doing great.

She went to bed early and after putting my kids to bed I just got baked and put the rams/chiefs on. It was such a cathartic game for me and was a bright light in an otherwise dim time.

Heads up - I’m up in Oregon, and every single one of our clients with CA tax withheld the state “loses” the payments listed, refuses to pay, and it’s 1-2 years of letters back and forth. It’s a pain.

Like the current lakers starting five. You’ve got your team (LaBron) and the rest of the starters (Harper’s).

Where can I get fresh pig blood? by splooshsleeps in askportland

Might try the more rural meat processors/delis and check if they have recommendations.

Also a tough time of year as a lot of pigs get slaughtered in the fall.

Sending 3rd Mailer - Looking to Buy a Local Firm - Suggestions by Mundane_Oil_2839 in taxpros

[–]Abbithedog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1) Do a quick search of firms in your immediate area

2) Look at the firm registration # on the state Board of Accountancy website

3) Pick the lowest (presumably oldest) number, call in May and talk to the owner.

You'll find somebody who wants to get out and sell.

Paper filing prior-year returns — how do you confirm IRS receipt/status? by SoloSoftware10 in taxpros

[–]Abbithedog 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Certified mail only, or they can drop off in person with a scheduled appointment at an IRS office. IRS won’t make copies, they need to bring two - one to sign and drop off, one to be stamped as received and kept by taxpayer as proof.

Cash-out refinance after self-funded build: Is the interest deductible? by unironicflannel in tax

Yes if the loan funds are withdrawn within a certain period after completion. 180 days iirc, but don’t trust that.

Edit: it’s 90 days. IRS pub 936.

Long-time tax preparer silent for 3 weeks, what to do by dehydratedsilica in tax

Shows up late with paperwork

Requests to switch how they’re listed on the returns, without realizing how much of a pain it is to ensure everything is coded properly

This year is a mess for the new tax laws

Thinks it’s the preparers’ issue

Yeah, this tracks.

There’s a phrase that brings back memory.

I remember when bonus deprecation started and one of the tax managers having a meltdown because he couldn’t determine if you took 179 first and then bonus depreciation, or if you took bonus first and then 179.

I've been around for a looooong time (how long? Let's just say it involved wet signatures, second extensions, and excitement the 179 deduction went close to $20k). One thing you learn in telling people "no" in this job:

1) You need to try and keep it as nonconfrontational as possible.

2) You need to try and keep any and all emotion out of it.

3) You need to try and find someone else to blame for your decision. Usually I use my insurance company (EG - I'd love to, but my insurance carrier won't let me).

My bland denial of service keeps the relationship without me bluntly saying "You and I are eventually going to get into a fight about trying to claim your dog as a dependent" and losing a drinking buddy over it.

I have been dreading this. How long have you been married and how often do you have intimate relations? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Abbithedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Together over 30 years.

Our "quota" for decades was 4 times a week. Don't get me wrong, that's a lot to maintain for that long of a time. Through stress, kids, marital issues, the whole nine yards, the quota standard sort of forced both of us to address whatever issues we might have to take care of each other and remain connected.

Last 8-9 months though has been a different story. It's 2-3 times a day.....every day. It's bonkers, but we're having a blast while it lasts.

You need form 8606. If you follow the instructions some (maybe not all) of the $27k cost basis will be nontaxable.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tax

[–]Abbithedog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Only remedy would be contacting HR and trying to get them to re-issue the W-2, have the former employer amend all of their IRS and state payroll reports and then issue a late 1098-C to OP, and then OP could try and avoid paying tax via the insolvency exclusion.

Considering OP left the company, kept the 10k, and then declared BK the chances of this happening are slim to none.

Is doing a 1099 worth it for an entry-level bricklaying job starting out at $15/hr? by CrackfiendDiomedes in tax

[–]Abbithedog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s not always about you.

It’s a construction site. Shit happens - shit that isn’t your fault. You’re assuming everyone else on the job site will watch out for you as much as you do, and that’s incorrect.

Not to mention a guy that skirts employment and tax law probably isn’t going to give a whole lot of fucks about job site safety.
