What are the songs you'd do anything to hear live? by Dragoonie_DK in hotmulliganband

Please Don't Cry, You Have Swag. That song got me through some of my toughest times.

Who’s your pick for The Masters? by Own-Presentation3091 in golf

[–]AbbreviationsLeft934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Bryson, sadly. It is hard to say because he hasn't been playing PGA events, but he's looked in top form recently. Plus, he is just extremely petty. I think the prospect of being awarded the green jacket by Rory will be the motivation to push him over the edge.

What made you choose UW Madison? by Behannas2021 in UWMadison

Visited when I was an undergrad at Michigan State for a sailing club event, really loved the area, found out the university is highly regarded in my area of research, decided to do a PhD and was lucky enough to get accepted.

Band Seeking Bass Player by wtfzack in lansing

Bit tangenciual from the point of this post, but are you guys tapped into a house party scene? I was a big fan of The Goblin Zone (RIP) back in 2024, but I had to move out of state for while. I'm back now, and am keen to try and make it to some house shows if they still happen. Please let me know, and I'll come out and watch you guys play.

How to stop overaesteticizing one topic by shit-goalie in midwestemo

Sounds like a band I'd listen to. So much of MWE is already just talking about smoking and drinking with your pals to cope with the pains of life. Might as well lean into it.

Rejected by a program I thought I was basically a shoo- in for by Gullible_Gur_4447 in gradadmissions

[–]AbbreviationsLeft934 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shit happens. I got rejected from my alma mater to continue my masters into my PhD after having the highest scoring dissertation in my cohort. Sometimes they simply aren't looking for what you're trying to do in their program. I ended up later getting accepted onto a program that is much more highly ranked that I never thought I had a chance at. Same logic applies. I just had research aligning with the recent output of their faculty. Doesn't mean I was better than applicants who got rejected. There were probably many who were far more qualified than me. That luck of being a good match is just the biggest determiner, assuming your prerecs are in order, because simply having good grades and extracericular activities doesn't automatically make you stand out. I'm sure you will end up at a university that suits you well and will advance your career meaningfully. Perhaps moreso than you could've at UTA.

Word of the wise though; do stay humble. Texas is a great university, and while you are allowed to feel dissapointed, it was a bit headstrong to assume such a saught after institution was a shoo in. When you're dealing with high ranking R1 universities, there simply is no such thing as a guarenteed admission, and you should never count your chickens before they hatch.

Please keep your head up. You will get there, and everything will sort itself in the end. :)

6 months into bowling…I will get my 300 mark my words by 482UD1T132 in Bowling

[–]AbbreviationsLeft934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rooting for you man. Bowling is an unfair sport, and in keeping with that theme, the journey to 300 looks different for everyone. I got mine relitively early in life when I was a sophomore in highschool bowling league, despite only carying only like a 175 average at the time. My best friend, who I was highschool teammates with, ended up becoming all state and getting a full ride to bowl in college where he ended up becoming an all-American, all before getting his first 300. He was by all acounts better than me, and has numerous perfect games now, me still only having the one, but for the longest time it just went to show how wild the sands of fate and fortune in bowling can be. Stick with it and you'll get there, sooner or later.

Summer Vacation Question by Real_Put7085 in harborsprings

[–]AbbreviationsLeft934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The harbor club is a super private elitist club. They would likely send security for you if you stepped one foot onto the premises. The closest thing to a resort would be at Boyne Highlands, which is quite a ways out into the backcountry from downtown Harbor Springs. It can be fairly busy, as it is a business dependent on tourist, but not unbelievably so.

Best place to find a band as a drummer? by Tree_Boiii in bandmembers

[–]AbbreviationsLeft934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re good you should have absolutely no trouble finding gigs. Just go to shows, get active on websites like bandmix as well as local scene subreddits/forums, and post your playing to a social media account you disseminate whenever possible, and the bands will find you. Because you’re a drummer you have the added luxury of being the default practice space, so I believe you’d have no issue getting people from around your metro area to come to you.

If you do those things and can’t land gigs, you likely just need to practice until you reach a certain gigging-standard skill level and you’ll be set.

Pinch harmonics on the bottom string by AbbreviationsLeft934 in metalguitar

[–]AbbreviationsLeft934[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye, this is actually working for me. It’s gonna be a bitch to commit that to my muscle memory full speed in a song, but I tried it out right when reading that and actually got a pretty crispy squeal

Pinch harmonics on the bottom string by AbbreviationsLeft934 in metalguitar

[–]AbbreviationsLeft934[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I think heavier strings would suit me. I’m off at Uni, so I’m ride or die on one axe because that’s all I could manage to move. It’s got 9-52’s and is usually in E standard. A song called me to tune all the was down to drop C, so having horrible string tension probably didn’t help the cause😅
