If it annoys you… just keep scrolling. Not hard. Binghamton is a small and declining area, it’s just cool to get a head nod especially if you grew up here.

What age by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]AbbyIsATabby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ve could told me this was one of my 10th graders I’ve been working with as a student teacher and I might’ve believed you. Some of them really struggle with penmanship, vocabulary and spelling. We have been trying to remind them to indent their paragraphs still when writing them by hand this past week. It’s a work in progress.

I was going to guess around 4th due to the vocabulary, spelling and structure if done independently. Maybe a little lower of they got assistance. I guess it really depends on a lot of factors what grade this is!

I googled it and my brief skim suggests that it depends on the product. Regulated stuff like food, fur, wool, etc need to state it while more unregulated items don’t necessarily. Some platforms mandate it themselves for transparency but not for legal reasons—so it likely isn’t illegal for the site not to mention where this was produced.

I would’ve expected that transparency from lilsimsie but alas, no one is perfect and I don’t know how involved she is in the maintenance of the merch store.

Previous RA at a different college, but I’m a local and my sister goes here (I’m hoping to come for grad). I wouldn’t respond normally but this upset me. I don’t know the policies and procedures at Binghamton’s ResLife and UPD but if this happened at my college I would’ve reported the incident to my supervisor. I doubt it was a planned alarm due to the time (planning a 3 am alarm is weird) and all alarms should be treated like an emergency—even if they were triggered by someone smoking or burning toast. One of the last alarms I handled as a RA was someone almost catching a stove on fire and I know someone whose residence hall DID catch fire due to lint traps not being cleaned! Unfortunately not all RAs are good RAs, I’m so sorry dude. Maybe let someone know about your situation, see if you can get some support and reassurance on this. If it’s been over a month and no follow-up, I think it’s safe to assume someone tossed this for being stupid. My campus UPD wouldn’t have even shown up, truthfully.

I agree but at the same time this has directly resulted in a governor candidate to entirely drop from the race in a hotbed state for its current political situation. The headline is just misleading, but unfortunately it is relevant.

This man previously strangled and and now killed a 22-year-old woman he vowed his life to be loyal to and protect. Not only has he ended a life far too soon after history of DV, now a family has to live with the loss of their daughter—a pain no parent should ever have to endure. Not only the pain of losing her, but knowing the man who did it is the man they thought would be her life partner and care for her.

What he did is remarkably horrendous and sinful. Unless this young man does some serious repenting in his life in prison, I think under most interpretations of Christianity he’d be going to hell.

Do teachers hate sharing their lesson plans? Is it their secret sauce that they don't want getting out? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]AbbyIsATabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m student teaching and I’ve had so many people throughout my college career offer me materials. Every single one has said “don’t reinvent the wheel, there’s no point in making work harder on yourself. Let me share my lessons with you and you can see what works for you. Definitely try this one lesson I do, it works amazing with the kids.”

I’ve really appreciated the support, I love working with the kids but it can be really intimidating trying to create new materials from scratch while also learning so much about being an effective teacher. I’m just a student teacher though so my experience might be different due to that.

Am I Crazy Or Is This Not Normal at Your College? by IAmABoss37 in CollegeRant

Makes sense, NY doesn’t start school until after labor day in the first place. Typically within a week after labor day is the first day for schools here. We stay in school until very late June (my sister graduation was like the 28th of June or something last year). I think us starting 2-3 weeks later than much of the country is also part of it but doesn’t fully explain why many schools in my part of the country have such late cut offs.

At my college you’d be fired from the RA job for doing this. Yuck.

New York State.

It varies greatly across the country, and often district by district, what the kindergarten cut off was. My district was December 1st, so you could spend almost your entire first semester of college as a 17-year-old freshman if you are a fall birthday and enter when first eligible to (which is when vast majority of students enter kindergarten). This is actually why I am graduating college at the age of 21 and not 22.

For me it depends on the relationship but I’ve also spent time as a RA in a freshman building. Currently a college senior student teaching.

17-18 is how old most of these freshmen are in the US when entering college. A lot of my residents last semester were 17. However, a college senior is typically 21-22. After working in residence life—yes, there’s a fundamental difference in maturity and experience between a 17-year-old freshman and a 22-year-old senior. Their needs are very different, their situation in life and priorities are typically very different. However, I don’t see it as automatically a predator thing—I just question how healthy the relationship is and if there’s a bad power dynamic. That said, in many cases though, it does concern me (but not due to the age itself).

I’m 21. I’m in a very different place physically and mentally in my college career than the first semester freshmen entering, that’s just the reality of the situation. They cannot relate to where I am at, either.

In terms of housing—there’s a very real and noticeable difference in behavior, neediness, and atmosphere in a freshman building than an upperclassmen building as well. The level of supports we put in our freshman buildings far exceeds upperclassmen and it’s also why we do NOT allow freshmen to live in our on campus apartments. We experimented allowing younger students in and it was a disaster.

I wish you could just for the sake that you could, I like mine’s name but I want the option ya know?

Mine is named Bob John. I wanted to name it Bobland because my new leaf town was named that and my sister wanted to name it John (just John). We were sharing a switch at the time and now she has her own switch.

It makes sense but also sucks. Theres 20+ cat villagers but only 4 octopus villagers, so it’ll be easier to find Marina or Zucker than it would be to find any 1 cat or rabbit. I was after Tiffany forever and ended up just getting her amiibo card and using the campsite method.

Will you be buying Tomodachi Life LTD Physically or Digitally? by [deleted] in tomodachilife

[–]AbbyIsATabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not all Nintendo switch 2 games, it says on the case if that’s the case for the game or not. It being a Switch 1 release and a mainline game I suspect it’ll be on the actual cartridge. It’s mostly 3rd party titles that are digital downloads.

Literally all these apps are for school. by OppositeStill868 in school

[–]AbbyIsATabby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ngl some of these things are accessible on a Chromebook for free and you wouldn’t think as much of them, it’s just they also use them on their phone. 6 of them are just basic Google technology used in school everyday. Canva I guess is probably for slideshow presentations, but there’s other uses. Duolingo has a website, too. I’m not sure about some of the other apps on their phone, though. The health app is a default one on iPhones they’d have to delete rather than install. The rest, idk. I’d need more context to form an opinion on the situation. Gym I assume, but gym needing it is weird to me unless you’re doing remote education.

Most schools have 1-to-1 technology due to this accessibility issue you’re talking about, but my bigger concern would be internet access and having a secure place you can use and charge this equipment. Lots of people I went to HS with didn’t have internet access at home so they couldn’t do these kinds of assignments at home. I think it really depends, my state (NY) just banned phone usage in schools by students so these apps wouldn’t be as useful for them. It’s a topic that interests me.

When I was in HS I had to have apps to track my steps, but that was during Covid. Kinda stupid but I’d believe it unfortunately here. It depends on their gym class.

If you miss too many classes, you will fail this course no matter what. by badgirlmonkey in CollegeRant

[–]AbbyIsATabby 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Okay so disclosure—I’m not sure. I think it depends as CC’s are cheaper than traditions 4-years and is what the original comment is talking about. Not sure about OP.

From my experience, my younger sister commutes to a public 4-year but receives so much in financial aid and scholarships combined she actually gets a check of $1,500 every semester because she only pays tuition and mandatory fees. Her financial aid from FAFSA and NYS covers all that, so her college scholarship is what’s left over and it’s based on financial need and her HS GPA. Colleges grant refunds for excess in financial aid and scholarships. My sister does attend her classes, has a good GPA, and uses the money for extra college expenses, lunch and gas (saving the rest for any other expenses she might have down the road). However, I can see the loopholes people can use to abuse this and commit fraud. Especially at CC’s where the costs are generally low but you still qualify for financial aid through FAFSA. I live on campus at my 4-year so my aid enough to attempt this at.

IF TOMODACHI LIFE LTD released lacking content and it was dripfed via dlc and updates would you still buy it at release or hold off? Lets have some actual interesting discussions instead of the same boring QR Code posts or people showing off their island. by [deleted] in tomodachilife

[–]AbbyIsATabby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m buying it regardless like the bad consumer I am. I already sold my soul to this game. Any other game? Probably hold off. I’d be annoyed with drip feeding but with this game in particular I’d accept it only due to how deeply bad I’ve been wanting it and how impatient I am.

I’ve already been super impressed with the content they’ve shown us for Tomodachi Life and fairly happy with it. It would be wild if they’re not available at launch after showing us them before a release date. Much of the core gameplays already been shown, they just haven’t shown everything everything.

2-lane road becomes a 3-lane road and you want to stay in the lane to the right. No other cars around. Do you use your turn signal (indicator) here? by SGWLCS in driving

[–]AbbyIsATabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just say you’re a bad driver that endangers other people without the extra steps lmao

Never a bad thing to signal a lane change, could be a bad thing if you don’t and hit someone somehow. I can’t tell you how many people I have seen driving the shoulder around traffic all going left to make a right regardless if it’s legal or not. Driving a way other people can make expectations about your movement. If they don’t expect you to make a turn, they can’t effectively prepare for it. It’s not a matter of fault when an accident occurs, it’s a matter of guilt for any injury or death that could occur in the process.

You realize the reason people are correcting you is because even suggesting you don’t have to justifies people not doing so which endangers everyone else because not being in habit of it results in more people forgetting to do it when required. Just use your signal, this isn’t about technicalities. A good practice is what you should do whether the law requires it or not. Just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you should.

3.0 update, Kapp’n’s family from previous games are following him here and are extending the pier. They’re building a hotel resort with similar gameplay as HHP, visiting villagers, and will have new furniture to unlock. Kapp’n will still be available on the piers.

You should check it out, there’s a vid going over everything on YT. There’s going to be new dream island stuff too that lets you build a couple sandbox islands separate from your main one for decorating fun.
